In this paper, we provide a comprehensive survey for the artificial intelligence and spectrum management, which are used for cache-enabled Internet of Things (IoT) in smart cities. In smart cities, there emerge a lot of new applications such as data collection and communication, environment monitoring, and real-time processing, which cannot be supported by the conventional wireless transmission techniques. Hence, some new wireless transmission techniques should be developed to support the emerging applications in smart cities. In this survey, we focus on the artificial intelligence, spectrum management, and caching techniques, where the interference arises due to the limited spectrum resources. In particular, we first review the current research status of these new techniques and, then, give some challenges on the system design. We further provide several feasible solutions on these challenges, in order to implement the IoT networks in smart cities. Finally, we conclude the work in the part of conclusions and give some discussions on the future works.

The emerging development in smart vehicles has improved transportation seamlessly. This paper deals with incorporating the modern technologies like Artificial Intelligence and Internet of Things(IoT) with the traditional transportation system. It states how AI algorithms can be integrated with IoT powered vehicles to manage and avoid crashing with idle vehicles on a speedway and assists for safer driving using the traffic symbol analysis to reduce accidents. Several communication standards for data transmission between the vehicle and control system has been stated. It also provides additional features like emergency or assistance for vehicles in speedway. It uses complex learning and analysis algorithms to improve the efficiency of driving and reduce rear-end collisions. This paper hence gives a comprehensive survey of the enabling technologies, protocols, and architecture for IoT powered transport.

In this chapter, wearables are presented as assistive technology to support persons with disabilities (PwD) to face the urban space in an autonomous and independently way. In the Inclusive Smart City (ISC), everyone has to be able to access visual and audible information that so far are available just for people that can perfectly see and listen. Several concepts and technologies – such as Accessibility and Universal Design, Pervasive Computing, Wearable Computing, Internet of Things, Artificial Intelligence, and Cloud Computing – are associated to achieve this aim. Also, this chapter discusses some examples of use of wearables in the context of Smart Cities, states the importance of these devices to the successful implementation of Inclusive Smart Cities, as well as presenting challenges and future research opportunities in the field of wearables in ISC.

The proliferation of smart objects with capability of sensing, processing and communication has grown in recent years. In this scenario, the Internet of Things (IoT) connects these objects to the Internet and provides communication with users and devices. IoT enables a huge amount of new applications, with which academics and industries can benefit, such as smart cities, health care and automation. In this environment, compose of constrained devices, the widespread adoption of this paradigm depends of security requirements like secure communication between devices, privacy and anonymity of its users. Purpose The Internet of Things (IoT) has attracted a lot of attention in both industrial and academic fields for recent years. Artificial intelligence (AI) has developed rapidly in recent years as well. AI naturally combines with the Internet of Things in various ways, enabling big data applications, machine learning algorithms, deep learning, knowledge discovery, neural networks and other technologies. The purpose of this paper is to provide state of the art in AI powered IoT and study smart public services in China. Design/methodology/approach This paper reviewed the articles published on AI powered IoT from 2009 to 2018. Case study as a research method has been chosen. Findings The AI powered IoT has been found in the areas of smart cities, healthcare, intelligent manufacturing and so on. First, this study summarizes recent research on AI powered IoT systematically; and second, this study identifies key research topics related to the field and real-world applications. Originality/value This research is of importance and significance to both industrial and academic fields researchers who need to understand the current and future development of intelligence in IoT. To the best of authors’ knowledge, this is the first study to review the literature on AI powered IoT from 2009 to 2018. This is also the first literature review on AI powered IoT with a case study of smart public service in China.

Abstract Despite intensive efforts, there are still enormous challenges in provision of healthcare services to the increasing aging population. Recent observations have raised concerns regarding the soaring costs of healthcare, the imbalance of medical resources, inefficient healthcare system administration, and inconvenient medical experiences. However, cutting-edge technologies are being developed to meet these challenges, including, but not limited to, Internet of Things (IoT), big data, artificial intelligence, and 5G wireless transmission technology to improve the patient experience and healthcare service quality, while cutting the total cost attributable to healthcare. This is not an unrealistic fantasy, as these emerging technologies are beginning to impact and reconstruct healthcare in subtle ways. Although the technologies mentioned above are integrated, in this review we take a brief look at cases focusing on the application of 5G wireless transmission technology in healthcare. We also highlight the potential pitfalls to availability of 5G technologies.

This paper presents an efficient cyberphysical platform for the smart management of smart territories. It is efficient because it facilitates the implementation of data acquisition and data management methods, as well as data representation and dashboard configuration. The platform allows for the use of any type of data source, ranging from the measurements of a multi-functional IoT sensing devices to relational and non-relational databases. It is also smart because it incorporates a complete artificial intelligence suit for data analysis; it includes techniques for data classification, clustering, forecasting, optimization, visualization, etc. It is also compatible with the edge computing concept, allowing for the distribution of intelligence and the use of intelligent sensors. The concept of smart cities is evolving and adapting to new applications; the trend to create intelligent neighbourhoods, districts or territories is becoming increasingly popular, as opposed to the previous approach of managing an entire megacity. In this paper, the platform is presented, and its architecture and functionalities are described. Moreover, its operation has been validated in a case study where the bike renting service of Paris—Vélib’ Métropole has been managed. This platform could enable smart territories to develop adapted knowledge management systems, adapt them to new requirements and to use multiple types of data, and execute efficient computational and artificial intelligence algorithms. The platform optimizes the decisions taken by human experts through explainable artificial intelligence models that obtain data from IoT sensors, databases, the Internet, etc. The global intelligence of the platform could potentially coordinate its decision-making processes with intelligent nodes installed in the edge, which would use the most advanced data processing techniques.

From self-driving cars to smart cities, the internet of things (IOT) promises to revolutionise every aspect of our lives. IOT refers to any device that is able to collect and transmit data via the internet. The excitement surrounding the field is spurred by the marriage of IOT and artificial intelligence (AI), which will lead to ‘smarter’ and more personalised devices. IOT technology has already begun to infiltrate several industries and healthcare is no exception. In this essay I will outline existing and potential impacts of IOT technology in the delivery and training of surgery.

Internet of things is seen in many fields like civil engineering, consumer goods, oil and gas fields, smart cities, agriculture, etc. Apart from these, it is applicable to the medical field to detect and treat many kinds of diseases and can find the different health parameters quickly. It became important in the health sector to mitigate the challenges of health problems. Internet of things (IoT) is an amalgamation of pervasive computing, intelligent processing, and real-time response systems. Mechanics, devices, sensors make this machine-to-machine communication a feasible solution to dynamic requirements of tech-aspiring world. This chapter highlights the possibilities of further empowerment of healthcare systems using IoT or in other words IoMT (internet of medical things). Nanotechnology-driven IoT development or internet of nano things (IoNT) has become an added advantage in healthcare applications. So, IoNT with IoMT is another exciting research prospect of the near future. This chapter introduces a technique used in healthcare applications, PUF (physical unclonable function), and it is technique for solving many problems related to privacy and security. Security of data transmission, issues pertinent to reliability, and inter-operability are inherently affecting the progress of IoT-based healthcare systems. This chapter of focuses upon these issues and feasible solutions viewed from the dimension of technology-driven healthcare costs in the modern world and economic implications. The treatment used in this chapter will be more interesting for the casual readers. The analysis of IoMT implications in the near future will be helpful to the ardent learners. The research dimensions of IoT-empowered healthcare systems will add value to the thought process of young researchers.
