In recent years, the reconfiguration of the distribution network has been proclaimed as a method for realizing power savings, with virtually zero cost. The current trend is to design distribution networks with a mesh network structure, but to operate them radially. This is achieved by the establishment of an appropriate number of switchable branches which allow the realization of a radial configuration capable of supplying all of the normal defects in the box of permanent defect. The purpose of this article is to find an optimal reconfiguration using a Meta heuristic method, namely the particle swarm optimization method (PSO), to reduce active losses and voltage deviations by taking into account certain technical constraints. The validity of this method is tested on a 33-IEEE test network and the results obtained are compared with the results of basic load flow.

This paper describes the algorithm for optimal distribution network reconfiguration using the combination of a heuristic approach and genetic algorithms. Although similar approaches have been developed so far, they usually had issues with poor convergence rate and long computational time, and were often applicable only to the small scale distribution networks. Unlike these approaches, the algorithm described in this paper brings a number of uniqueness and improvements that allow its application to the distribution networks of real size with a high degree of topology complexity. The optimal distribution network reconfiguration is formulated for the two different objective functions: minimization of total power/energy losses and minimization of network loading index. In doing so, the algorithm maintains the radial structure of the distribution network through the entire process and assures the fulfilment of various physical and operational network constraints. With a few minor modifications in the heuristic part of the algorithm, it can be adapted to the problem of determining the distribution network optimal structure in order to equalize the network voltage profile. The proposed algorithm was applied to a variety of standard distribution network test cases, and the results show the high quality and accuracy of the proposed approach, together with a remarkably short execution time.

Harmonic penetration can be problematic by the growing interconnection of Wind Turbines (WTs) in distribution networks. Since the active power outputs of WTs and loads in the distribution system have uncertainties, the optimal WT penetration level problem can be considered to have a stochastic nature. In this study, this problem is taken into account in the stochastic optimization method with the consideration of uncertainties in wind speed and distribution network load profile. Chance constraint programming is taken into account in the determination of optimal WT penetration levels by applying the Genetic Algorithm (GA) along with Monte Carlo Simulation (MCS). The harmonic power flow analysis based on the decoupled harmonic load flow approach is employed in the distorted distribution network. Chance constraints are considered for the harmonic issues such as the Total Harmonic Distortion of Voltage (VTHD), Individual Harmonic Distortion of Voltage (VIHDh), and Root Mean Square of Voltage (VRMS).

A new technique for energy loss reduction for distribution networks is obtainable. It is based onnetwork reconfigurationand algorithms for radial network study. A method for the reconfiguration of distribution system with Distributed Generation (DG) since consistency and power loss is suggested. in this paper below ordinary working situations. Primarily a BPSO algorithm based tie-switches location is conceded out at end nodes taking physical limitations and then preceded by fixing and sizing of DG at the tie-switches location usingFBS optimization method. Before reconfiguration, tieswitch will be in open situation. Reliability at load points is calculated using load flow analysis.Energetic coding is used for discovery the minimal shortcut path from resource to the load. A discover algorithm has been formulate for the network reconfiguration difficulty, since tie-switch and DGs for loss minimization and reliability to improve the load necessity, power stability equations and voltage parameters. The planned approach has been tested on IEEE 33-node radial distribution Networks systems.

Selection of the best type and most suitable size of conductors is essential for designing and optimizing the distribution network. In this paper, an effective method has been proposed for proper selection and incorporation of conductors in the feed part of a radial electricity distribution network considering the depreciation effect of conductors. Increasing the usability of the electric energy of the power grid for the subscribers has been considered per load increment regarding the development of the country. Optimal selection and reconstruction of conductors in the power distribution radio network have been performed through a smart method for minimizing the costs related to annual losses and investment for renovation of lines by imperialist competitive algorithm (ICA) to improve the productivity of the power distribution network. Backward/forward sweep load flow method has been used to solve the load flow problem in the power distribution networks. The mentioned optimization method has been tested on DAZ feeder in Ghaleganj town as test.

Power loss reduction is an important problem that needs to be addressed with respect to generating electrical power. It is important to reduce power loss using locally generated power sources and/or compensations. This chapter brings a method of presents a method of maximizing energy utilization, feeder loss reduction, and voltage profile improvement for radial distribution network using the active and reactive power sources. Distributed Generation (DG) (wind and solar with backup by biomass generation) and shunt capacitor (QG) for reactive power demand are used. Integrating DG and QG at each bus might reduce the loss but it is economically unaffordable, especially for developing countries. Therefore, the utilization optimization method is required for finding an optimal size and location to feeders for placing QG and DG to minimize feeder loss.

Due to the complexity of modern power distribution network, a hybridization of heuristic method which is called as Evolutionary Particle Swarm Optimization (EPSO) is introduced to identify the open and closed switching operation plans for network reconfiguration. The objectives of this work are to reduce the power losses and improve the voltage profile in the overall system meanwhile minimizing the computational time. The proposed combination of Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) and Evolutionary Programming (EP) is introduced to make it faster in order to find the optimal solution. The proposed method is applied and it impacts to the network reconfiguration for real power loss and voltage profiles is investigated respectively. The proposed method is tested on a IEEE 33-bus system and it is compared to the traditional PSO and EP method accordingly. The results of this study is hoped to help the power engineer to configure the smart and less lossed network in the future.
