Knowledge about the diet of anurans in different environments is essential to understanding important aspects of their trophic ecology. The bromeliad-frog Phyllodytes luteolus inhabits tank bromeliads in sandy coastal plains and lowland forests on the mainland, as well as a continental island in southeastern Brazil. In this work, we describe and analyze the diet of P. luteolus in three environments. We obtained the consumed prey items of 92 frogs (32 from sandy coastal plain, 32 from lowland forest and 28 from the island) via a stomach-flushing procedure. We found some variations in consumed prey composition and prey volume across populations, but ants represented the most important consumed prey in all environments. Only ants had a relative importance greater than 50%, which may suggest a specialized diet that transcends the sandy coastal plain environment.

Lontra longicaudis (Olfers, 1818) (Carnivora, Mustelidae) is a semi-aquatic animal spread through the Central and South America, except in Chile. The implantation of a hydroelectric power plant along a river alters the dynamics of the watercourse, transforming a lotic environment into a lentic or semilotic one, what can damage the otter's feeding. From April 2008 to March 2009 we analysed the otter's food habits in lotic (streamlet) and semilotic (hydroelectric reservoir) environments of Paranapanema Valley, in southeastern Brazil. Aiming to compare the otter's diet of these two environments, we analyzed statistically the frequency of occurrence of main items in the scats. Fishes represent the base of the diet both in the reservoir and in the streamlet and, despite of the total otter's diet showing up similarities in the two environments, the results evidenced modifications on the fish species consumed between them. In the reservoir the otters ate more exotic fish Oreochromis niloticus (Linnaeus, 1758) probably because it is an easy capture prey in this place. The fact that the otters get established and feed in the reservoir doesn't mean that this structure is benefic to the species because the food supplied for it consists mainly of exotic fish species.

The Marambaia is an important natural refuge for preserving the genetic heritage of several rain forest plant species. In this insular region, where the vegetation types are Lower Montane Rain Forest and restingas (sandy coastal plain habitat), the impressive diversity of Melastomataceae consists of seven genera and 25 species of which 13 represent new records for the area. Miconia is best represented with 10 species, followed by Tibouchina (6 spp.), Leandra (4 spp.), Clidemia (2 spp.) and Huberia, Marcetia and Ossaea (1 sp. each). Most of the species are shrubs or trees and occur in Dense Submontane Ombrophilous Forest. Huberia ovalifolia DC., Leandra acutiflora (Naudin) Cogn. and Leandra melastomoides Raddi are cited in the list of endangered species for the municipality of Rio de Janeiro. An identification key is provided as well as descriptions, illustrations, comments on morphological peculiarities of species, and geographical and phenological data.

ABSTRACT A taxonomic study of the genus Artabotrys R. Br. (Annonaceae) in Java and the Lesser Sunda Islands was conducted based on morphological characters. The objective of this study is to determine the diversity, describe and make determination key of Artabotrys which found in Java and the Lesser Sunda Islands. The method used in this study is descriptive. This study was conducted on May-June 2015 in the collection room wing B 2nd floor, type room, and Laboratory of Biosystematic Herbarium Bogoriense - Bidang Botani Puslit Biologi LIPI, Cibinong, Bogor, West Java. The result showed that there are three species of Artabotrys in Java and Lesser Sunda Islands. Artabotrys species found in Java, namely A. hexapetalus, A. suaveolens and A. sumatranus, while the species of the Lesser Sunda Islands only A. hexapetalus. Phenetic analysis shows that the species of Artabotrys in Java and the Lesser Sunda Islands are divided into two subgroups. Determination key and descriptions also provided to identify the species of Artabotrys in Java and Lesser Sunda Islands. Artabotrys natural habitat is lowland forest but now lowland forests decreased. This can lead to biodiversity (including Artabotrys) to be reduced, so that conservation need to be done (conservation both on Artabotrys and lowland forest).   Keywords : Artabotrys, Annonaceae, diversity, determination key, Lesser Sunda Islands

The internal geometries of progradational units on the coastal plain in southeastern Spain (Carchuna Beach, Granada) since the maximum Holocene marine transgression (ca. 7000 cal BP) have been analysed using ground-penetrating radar (GPR). Radargram analysis shows the presence of sedimentary structures consistent with the progradation of coastal plains, interpreted as laminations associated with the foreset and topset. Laterally, five middle scale progradational units (H2, H3, H4, H5 and H6) are identified. Each of these units can be grouped into two major units. The general trend towards progradation is interrupted at the boundary of the units. Minor scale units (prograding wedges), deposited at topographically lower areas, are detected in GPR profiles. The radargrams also show channel erosional surfaces and sigmoidal landward dipping reflections interpreted as washover channel deposits, with the erosion and transference of sediments between the beach and the back-ridge domain. Furthermore, the saturation of coastline sediments with saltwater rapidly attenuates the GPR signal. Thus, the GPR is also a good tool to detect saltwater intrusions in shallow aquifers.
