Abstract While the bicycle in Samuel Beckett’s Molloy has received considerable critical attention, the crutches have largely eluded attention. The present essay examines, accordingly, in what ways the crutches are not simply a means for Molloy to compensate for his stiff leg(s) but might be said to constitute his very ‘end’ in the double sense of the word: his death as a human being and his function or purpose as a technical being, as a body of linguistic conventions working to create the illusion of a human being.

The vision(s) of the environment has a central role in the formulation of Environmental Education (EA) practices. These directly imply the conception of human being that it wishes to form. From these, it is possible to establish what kind of relationship between humanity and nature EA practices propose to foster. Thus, the present essay proposes to discuss the relations between the anthropological concept of culture and the characteristics of the critical conscience, proposed by Paulo Freire, with the socioenvironmental vision of nature and the ecological attitude, discussed by Isabel Carvalho. The aim is to establish relations between Freire's praxis and a critical EA proposal.

AbstractThe philosopher is first and foremost a human being whose humanity must be served by his academic profession if it is not to be irremediably pretentious, farcical, and corrupt. This is the Voegelinian paradigm. The present essay argues that anybody who is seriously interested in understanding Eric Voegelin as he understood himself is obliged to come to grips with the issues evoked by the perspectives this statement suggests. It is further argued that several general consequences follow: (a) underlining the loving tension toward divine Reality in open existence as central; (b) abandoning doctrinal fixation of separating faith and reason as supernatural and natural, respectively; (c) discarding as egophany the arrogant pretense of autonomous reason as its originator in self-sufficient human speculators; and (d) constantly remembering that devotion to the discipline and conventions of inquiry and of society must ever defer to devotion to the truth of existence.

Even though the present essay has been written in response to Piotr Sitkiewicz article „‘Yet penniless.’ Bruno Schulz’s Income and Living Standard,” it is not a polemic, but rather a different interpretation of some aspects of Schulz’s biography. A starting point is an analysis of the writer’s income – of what is known about it, what is not known yet, and what will probably never be known. The main goal is answering the question of Schulz’s condition as a human being painfully tried both by his personal life and by history. Małgorzata Ogonowska has not followed either of the two popular biographic narratives on the author of the Cinnamon Shops: she neither confirms the legend of Schulz as a helpless artist, unable to cope with everyday problems, nor challenges his own myth of himself. Analyzing the available sources, such as Schulz’s letters, school reports, and the local press, and placing them in social, economic, and political contexts, she is looking for some third way, trying to understand the ambiguities and multifacetedness of Schulz’s existence without passing judgement, condemning or idealizing.

The heart does hurt. And that's no metaphor. The feeling isthat ‘throbbing muscle’ you can't say—since that's ‘steel comic sex meat’.But it does hurttop-mid-leftunder my shirt with its atrocious beat.‘Didactic Poetryis poetry which is primrily intended to instruct. Most commonly, the label is used for poetry which teaches a moral. It can also refer to poetry which conveys factual information.’ Classicists will take issue with such a definition: that ‘also’ is provocative, and so are the priorities it signals; the wedge that is being driven between poetics as ‘moral’ as against poetics as ‘factual’, those terms—… Besides, whatweight is to be placed on the opposition ‘teaches’vs.‘conveys… information’? What concept of ‘teaching’ can there be that stands proud of ‘conveying… information’?This is the subject of the present essay. If we put this question—these questions—to theSatiresof Persius, we will find in them both: (1) a strategic manoeuvre within the developing construction of imperial subjectivity within Roman discourse that has been strangely overlooked in the recent burst of critical attention devoted to this area; and also (2) a paradigmatic response to repressive encroachment on individual and collective liberties from the ‘defensive’ writer who contrivesfromthe very constriction of the civic voice a vindication of the freedom tomean. Our freedom… to dissemble(,) dissent. Reflection of and on bur predicament: ‘meaning’ in the meaning-fullness ofemphasis, the protocol of reading that problematises the containment of reading this side of theDiktatof Power/Knowledge.

From  a phenomenologicalhermeneutic  reading,  it  is  worth  highlighting  two  primary  authors  on  the anthropological  bases  of  human  movement  within  the  Gestaltkreis.  From Viktor von Weizsäcker, results show that there are new foundations for a differentiated intervention in the healtharea called medical anthropology, and with the central axis in perception-movement. Then, from Paul Christian, a new understanding of the human being that moves in the intentionality emerges. Given these findings, it is possible to suggest topics for teachers’ training and for the development of school projects, with didactic arrangements wherechildren  and  youth  may  follow  the  paradigm  of  salutogenesis,  unlike  the hegemonic pathogenesis. Also, it is worth suggesting that the educational goal can be the relationships in the world at healthy levels, and the axis may be the sense of lifein movement.KEYWORDSPhysical Education, Medical anthropology; Perception-movement; self-motion

An important problem of religious studies, the history of religion as a branch of knowledge is the periodization process of the development of religious phenomenon. It is precisely here, as in focus, that the question of the essence and meaning of the religious development of the human being of the world, the origin of beliefs and cult, the reasons for the changes in them, the place and role of religion in the social and spiritual process, etc., are converging.

Purpose. The purpose of the article is to analyze the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as an international legal instrument, which for the first time formulated the foundations of modern democratic status of a human being and its fundamental rights and freedoms. Methodology. The methodology involves a comprehensive study of theoretical and practical material on the subject, as well as a formulation of relevant conclusions and recommendations. During the research, the following methods of scientific cognition were used: dialectical, terminological, formal and logical, systemic and functional. Results. The study found that the main features of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as a source of international legal mechanism for the protection of human rights are: 1) it is a fundamental, foundational and universal international human rights act of the United Nations; 2) it establishes a system of fundamental human rights; 3) it defines a common system of fundamental international human rights standards; 4) it determines the principles of legal identity of a human being; 5) it determines the fundamental basis and principles of international legal regulation in the field of human rights protection; 6) it acts as an international legal basis for the adoption of the latest legislation on human rights protection; 7) it acts as an international legal basis for the codification of human rights legislation. Scientific novelty. The study found that the Universal Declaration of Human Rights points to the natural origin of human rights, which must be binding on all States and for the whole population, regardless of citizenship, in order to ensure the human rights protection in a democratic and rule-of-law State. Practical importance. The results of the study can be used to improve Ukrainian legislation on human rights and fundamental freedoms.

With the rise of the American world literature movement, questions surrounding the politics of comparative practice have become an object of critical attention. Taking China, Japan and the West as examples, the substantially different ideas of what comparison ought to do – as exhibited in comparative literary and cultural studies in each location – point to three distinct notions of the possible interactions between a given nation and the rest of the world. These contrasting ideas can be used to reread political debates over concrete juridical matters, thereby highlighting possible resolutions. This work follows the calls of Ming Xie and David Damrosch for a contextualization of different comparative practices around the globe.

This paper intends to verify the extent and effectiveness of the transforming appropriation of the Derridean concept of ‘differance’ by Stiegler with respect to the problems that, according to Stiegler, make this creative critical operation necessary; in particular with respect to the most recent question concerning the possibility of thinking about and putting into practice a ‘neganthropological différance’ capable of facing the ecological crisis that today seems to threaten the very existence of life on earth. The paper goes back to Technics and Time 1. to analyze the distinction between ‘vital difference’ and ‘noetic difference’ that constitutes the condition of possibility of the ‘neganthropological différance.’ In this perspective, the distinction proposed by Stiegler seems to re-propose the hierarchically oriented oppositional structure that characterizes metaphysical thought and in particular the opposition between man and animal, attributing to the human being the ability to free himself from the constraints of his biological-natural condition. Finally, the paper attempts to account for the repercussions of this approach on the very possibility of an effective response to the ecological crisis, concluding with a provocation regarding the role that theory can and must play with regard to such an urgent and far-reaching problem.
