This paper examines the impact of trade in information technology (IT) on wage inequality in the digital economy. The empirical results based on the quarterly data for the period 1994-2004 in Korea show the evidence supportive of the view that trade in IT as intermediate inputs has escalated wage inequality in digital economy, which supports the Feenstra-Hanson (2001) hypothesis.

The development in information technology results in a significant increase in bank competition. The question of whether increased competition improves bank profitability and risk reduction is important in many aspects. This paper analyzes the impact of competition on profitability and risk in the context of Vietnam using OLS estimator on data set of 37 Vietnamese commercial banks. The main results present that banks with a higher competition index tend to have higher profitability which is measured by ROE and NIM. In addition, our empirical results also show that banks tend to take on more risk when facing increased competition.

The essential and substantive characteristics of the concept of "innovative convergence" are revealed, innovative incentives, motives, interests and tools of its implementation are established, which will create conditions for production at the enterprises of the branch with the use of BIM-technologies. Theoretical and methodological approaches to modeling the information technology architecture of the organization are proposed. Theoretical and methodological approaches to determining the formal features of an innovative organization in the context of the digital economy have been developed. The influence of intellectual potential and innovation culture on the innovative development of the organization in the digital economy is determined. PurposeThis study tests the impact of family control on information technology (IT) investment and IT adoption in MSMEs in India.Design/methodology/approachThis study employs a survey research design. Micro, small, and medium enterprise (MSME) owners in India were surveyed to test the impact of family control on IT investment and IT adoption.FindingsOur empirical results show that family control — measured by family ownership, family member firm management, and/or family CEO duality — increases IT investment and IT adoption in India. Family ownership increases the chances of IT investment and IT adoption by 19.24% and 38.40%, respectively. Firm management by family members increases the chances of IT investment and IT adoption by 11.29% and 18.29%, respectively. CEO duality increases the chances of IT investment and IT adoption by 51.13% and 258%, respectively. Thus, CEO duality has a higher impact on IT investment and IT adoption than family ownership and firm management by family members.Research limitations/implicationsThe empirical results may be generalized only to MSMEs similar to those surveyed in this study. Additionally, this study relied on the perceptions and judgments of MSME owners.Originality/valueThis study contributes to the literature on the impact of family control on IT investment and IT adoption in the developing economics. This study can help scholars to develop further studies in the family control area. Our findings may help MSME owners to increase family control to survive and prosper into the future. Additionally, MSME management consultants may find the empirical results useful to provide consulting services.

In an increasingly digital and competitive environment, it is important to understand the agricultural business' success in a digital economy. E-commerce appears as a potential strategic tool. The purpose of this chapter is to analyze the impact of e-commerce on agricultural business success in Portugal. Through a quantitative approach, data were collected by survey and a sample of 372 agricultural enterprises is obtained. The empirical results suggest a negative and significant impact of e-commerce on productivity. However, there is a simultaneous relationship between the e-commerce adoption and performance, both individually and globally. This study contributes to the addition of theory on e-commerce adoption, the impact of e-commerce on performance, and other determinants of the agricultural business' success.

The article discusses the need to develop information technology in the context of digital transformation in order to increase the competitiveness of high-tech industries. It is determined that in connection with the rapid development of the digital economy, the adaptation of high-tech enterprises to new operating conditions, as well as increasing their competitiveness, is of particular relevance. The need to stimulate investment and entrepreneurial activity in the high-tech industry has been identified. The digital economy implies the automation of business processes within a high-tech enterprise, as well as in relations with contractors and government agencies through the use of modern information technologies. It is proved that the paramount task of the development of the digital economy in Russia is the implementation in the coming years of training the required number of IT specialists capable of providing a qualitative technological breakthrough. A special role in the digital economy is given to high-tech production. The competitiveness of high-tech enterprises is largely due to the use of modern digital technologies in management and production activities. In conditions of high-tech production, factors affecting the competitiveness of enterprises are unstable. A list of external and internal factors affecting the level of competitiveness of high-tech enterprises is established from the standpoint of the greatest degree of influence of information technologies on them. Ignoring the transition to a digital economy can even deprive a successful high-tech company of its competitive advantage. Creation of new and improvement of existing network information technologies in the digital economy and their implementation in domestic high-tech enterprises will increase the competitiveness of enterprises, and as a result, the country's competitiveness.

The factors of the post-crisis development of the world banking system, the strengthening of the role of information technology in all industries, the increasing role of innovative Fintech intermediaries in the banking market encourage the management of banks to revise traditional business models and to form new approaches to managing the modern bank. In the article the authors aimed to investigate the impact of digitization on the choice of banking business model and the development of algorithm for estimating a bank’s business model. Traditionally banks choose one of five business models: lending, high leverage, investment, fee, margin. Most operating banks opt for traditional models because the business environment requires it. However, maintaining the bank’s competitiveness, enhancing its efficiency and resilience to financial imbalances is possible by building an innovative business model that takes into account the modern diffusion of information technology and the functioning of FinTech companies as an alternative to traditional banking business. Although nobody knows yet what will replace the current business model, there are currently three approaches to assimilating FinTech in banking: the Financial Control Center, Banking-as-a-Service, the Niche Bank. The choice of the banking business model and its transformation should be accompanied by an assessment of the bank’s business model. Thus, an important component of banking management in an unstable environment is the analysis of the business model of the bank and its transformation in order to minimize the impact of possible negative effects of financial crises on the performance of the bank. The proposed algorithm for estimating a bank’s business model includes 6 stages: preliminary assessment of the main components of the bank’s business model; assessment of the business environment of the bank; stress testing of the viability of the bank’s business model; evaluation of the bank’s strategy; identification of key vulnerabilities to which the bank’s business model is prone or likely to be vulnerable; and justification of the results and formation of effective conclusions. Keywords: banks, banking business model, banking management, digital economy, business model innovation.
