A new species, Inonotus castanopsidis, is described from southwestern China on the basis of morphological characteristics and molecular evidence. It is characterized by having a perennial and resupinate to effused-reflected basidiomata with greyish yellow to lavender pore surface, a monomitic hyphal system with simple-septate generative hyphae, which are rarely branched, presence of both hyphoid and hymenial setae, and ellipsoid to subglobose, yellowish, thick-walled basidiospores. Detailed description with illustration is provided for the new species and its relationships with similar species are discussed.

A new polypore, Antrodia yunnanensis, collected from southwestern China, is described and illustrated based on morphological characteristics and molecular evidence. It is characterized by annual, resupinate basidiocarps with greyish blue to dark greyish blue pore surface upon drying, round to angular pores measuring 2–3 per mm, a dimitic hyphal system with clamped generative hyphae, subicular hyphae bearing fine crystals, and cylindrical, thin-walled, smooth basidiospores measuring 7–9.9 × 2.5–3.1 µm. Molecular phylogeny inferred from ITS and nLSU sequence data showed that samples of A. yunnanensis formed a distinctive lineage in Antrodia sensu lato, and it nested a sister group with A. tropica.

A new species Mensularia rhododendri is described from southwestern China on the basis of both morphological characters and molecular evidence. Phylogenetic analysis based on nuclear large subunit (nLSU) ribosomal RNA gene shows that the new species belongs to Mensularia. Morphologically, the new species is mostly similar to Mensularia hastifera by sharing similar hymenial setae and basidiospores in shape and size. However, M. rhododendri differs in smaller pores (5–6 per mm), thinner fruit body (up to 2.5 mm), shorter and unbranched hyphoid setae (up to 110 µm long) present in trama only, basidiospores not collapsed, and growth on Rhododendron in nearly the timber line of southwest China, while M. hastifera has relatively larger pores (3–4 per mm), thicker fruit body (up to 10 mm), longer and sometimes branched hyphoid setae (up to 300 µm long) frequently present in both trama and dissepiments, and mostly collapsed basidiospores, and occurs mostly on Fagus in the temperate area of Central Europe. The morphological differences between M. rhododendri and other similar species of Mensularia are also compared.

A species with an annulus is rare within Amanita section Vaginatae. In this study, A. annulata is proposed as a new species based on morphological and molecular evidence. It is the second annulate species of the section in China, the first being A. cingulata. The new species is found in forests dominated by Fagaceae in Yunnan Province of China. It is characterized by its large basidioma, white pileus covered with large, white, dingy yellow-tipped pyramidal warts that break off easily, a stipe with a mealy, evanescent, white annulus, the base of the stipe covered with concolorous pyramidal warts, and broadly ellipsoid to ellipsoid basidiospores measuring 11−15 × 9−12 μm. Moreover, it is compared with similar species, especially the annulate taxa of Amanita section Vaginatae.

A new polypore, Postia duplicata, collected in Yunnan and Zhejiang provinces, is described and illustrated on the basis of morphological and molecular characters. Postia duplicata is characterized by pileate basidiomata with pale brownish to brown pore surface when bruised, duplex context, a monomitic hyphal system with clamped generative hyphae, presence of gloeocystidia in the hymenium, and cylindrical basidiospores (3.8–5.8 × 1.8–2.5 µm). Both morphological and molecular evidence confirmed the placement of the new species in Postia and showed its phylogenetic relationships.

This study presents one telamonioid species new to science based on morphological characteristics and molecular phylogenetic analyses. Cortinarius khinganensis was collected from the Greater Khingan Mountains, Northeast China and it is characterized by hygrophanous, vivid brownish red and striate pileus, white universal veil, and subglobose spores. According to phylogenetic analyses results, C. khinganensis belongs to the section Illumini, which is a lineage distantly related from subgenus Telamonia sensu stricto. Detailed descriptions of the new species and the comparisons with morphologically similar species are provided. The phylogenetic relationships within the section Illumini are also discussed.

Begonia yizhouensis, a new species in Begonia sect. Coelocentrum (Begoniaceae) from Guangxi of China, is described and illustrated. Morphologically, it is similar to the adjacently distributed B. luochengensis, but clearly separated by its waxy leaves with glabrous or sometimes sparsely puberulous surfaces, larger variation in leaf color and maculation along the main veins, white to pinkish-white flowers and late flowering. Furthermore, molecular phylogenetic analysis indicated B. yizhouensis was a monophyletic lineage and was sister with B. luochengensis. The relationship of the new species and other similar species is also discussed. This new species is endemic to limestone hills in Guangxi and is assessed as “Endangered” (EN) according to the IUCN Red List Categories and Criteria. Additionally, morphological and molecular evidence for B. yishanensis not being synonymous with B. porteri is presented.

A new polypore, Ceriporia albomellea, collected from tropical China, is described and illustrated based on morphological characteristics and molecular evidence. It is characterized by thin, resupinate basidiome with a white subiculum, cottony margin, white to cinnamon-buff pores, clavate cystidia and oblong-ellipsoid basidiospores measured as 3.1–3.8 × 1.7–2 µm. Phylogenetic analysis based on the internal transcribed spacer (ITS) regions and nuclear large subunit (nLSU) ribosomal RNA gene regions supported C. albomellea as a distinctive species belonging to Ceriporia.

A new species of Fistulina, F. tasmanica sp. nov., is described and illustrated from Tasmania in Australia. Fistulina tasmanica is distinguished by its pileate and fleshy basidiomata with rose pore surface, fibrous context, separated tubes with small pores (6–7 per mm), a monomitic hyphal system with only clamped generative hyphae, subellipsoid to ellipsoid basidiospores (5.4–6 × 3.4–4 μm) which are negative in Melzer’s reagent and cotton blue. Phylogenetic analyses inferred from the internal transcribed spacer regions (ITS) and the large subunit of nuclear ribosomal RNA gene (nLSU) sequences also confirmed that F. tasmanica is a new member within Fistulina.

Alopecosa volubilis n. sp. is described from Korea and is differentiated from other species in Alopecosa Simon, 1885 by morphological characteristics, such as three retromarginal teeth of chelicera, smaller body size, and the presence of a distinct tip of the median apophysis. The pedipalpal sclerites and somatic characters of two similar species, A. moriutii Tanaka, 1985 and A. hokkaidensis Tanaka, 1985, are compared with those of the new species. An illustration of the body and scanning electron microscope (SEM) pictures of the pedipalpal organ are provided.

Spergularia iraqensis sp. nov. is described as a new species from Iraq. This species has been collected from Diyala Province in the central east of Iraq; it is closely related to Spergularia rubra (L.) J. Presl & C. Presl, 1819 and Spergularia bocconei (Scheele) Graebn., 1919. The distinguishing of the morphological characteristics of the new species alongside the two similar species are discussed with photographs, and an identification key is given for Spergularia iraqensis and other closely related species.
