Stylodactylidae and Bathypalaemonellidae (Crustacea: Decapoda: Caridea) from the PANGLAO 2004 and 2005 expeditions to the Philippines, with description of a new species of Stylodactylus A. Milne-Edwards, 1881

Five species of the family Stylodactylidae Bate, 1888 and two species of Bathypalaemonellidae de Saint Laurent, 1985, were collected by the PANGLAO 2004 and 2005 expeditions to the Philippines. A member of the Stylodactylidae, Stylodactylus gracilis new species, collected at 2149–2217 m, is described and illustrated. The new species is distinguished from the 15 described species of Stylodactylus by a very thin and glabrous integument; a very long (0.8 times of carapace length) antennular peduncle, by the lengthening of the second segment (1.8 times longer than first); thin and very long third to fifth pereopods, as a result of the lengthening of the meri and propodi . The two species of Bathypalaemonellidae, Bathypalaemonella aff. hayashii Komai, 1995, and Bathypalaemonetes brevirostris (Bruce, 1986), represent new records for the Philippines.

A new species of the genus Pseudechiniscus, Pseudechiniscus papillosus sp. nov., is described and figured in this paper. This new species differs from the other species of the genus Pseudechiniscus by plate sculpture that consists of many papillae-like projections. Four new records of Echiniscus species and one new record of a Pseudechiniscus species are also reported in this article: Echiniscus cheonyoungi Moon & Kim, E. melanophthalmus Bartoš, E. nepalensis Dastych, E. trisetosus Cuénot and Pseudechiniscus asper Abe Utsugi & Takeda.

A new species of pontoniine shrimp, Leptomenaeus nhatrangensis sp. nov., is described and illustrated. This new species is the second representative of the genus. It is distinguishable from L. dolichosternum (Okuno and Mitsuhashi 2003) by the straight dorsal outline of the carapace and rostrum (1), by the rostrum overreaching the basal antennular peduncle (2), a subacute lower orbital angle (3), serrate cutting edges on the first pereiopod chela (4), fingers of the second pereiopod chela not markedly longer than palm (5), and the sixth abdominal segment not distinctly longer than postorbital carapace length (6). A single specimen of this new species was found in shallows of the Nhatrang Bay, southeastern Vietnam, on the lower surface of a large boulder.

Three new species of copepod crustaceans are described from material collected from anchialine and brackish habitats inand around the village of Walengkabola on the coast of Muna Island, to the southeast of Sulawesi. A new species of cy-clopoid, Paracyclopina sacklerae n. sp., was described from material collected from the tidal inflow entering into the bot-tom of sinkholes a few metres inland from the shoreline. Detailed comparisons are made with Paracyclopina orientalis(Lindberg, 1941), n. comb., a closely related congener here transferred from its original genus Cyclopetta Sars, 1913. Theassignment of Paracyclopina Smirnov, 1935 to the family Cyclopettidae is followed here despite uncertainty over the va-lidity of some of the families created by the break up of the former Cyclopinidae. Two new species of Boholina Fosshagen& Iliffe, 1989 are described, based on material from the same sinkholes and from caves located up to 700m inland fromthe coast and exhibiting further reduced salinity down to 1.8 ppt. One species, B. parapurgata n. sp., is very closely relatedto B. purgata Fosshagen & Iliffe, 1989 from Bohol island in the Philippines, the other B. munaensis n. sp., is very closelyrelated to B. crassicephala Fosshagen & Iliffe, 1989 also from Bohol island, but a number of fine scale differences in the leg 5 of both sexes are recognised in each case. Keys to valid species of both genera are provided.

The mango leafhopper Idioscopus clypealis (Lethierry) (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae) from the Philippines is parasitized bytwo genera of Strepsiptera, Halictophagus and Callipharixenos. A redescription of the male Halictophagus fulmeki(Hofeneder), a new record and description of its conspecific female and a key to Halictophagus in the Philippines aregiven, and a new species of female, Callipharixenos philippines sp. n. is described. The inclusion of the family Callipharixenidae as a subfamily Callipharixeninae within the family Halictophagidae is discussed.

Altajosoma corniferum sp. n. is described from the Republic of Altai, Siberia, Russia. The new species differs from congeners mainly by the large, horn-shaped lateral sheath processes of the posterior gonopod colpocoxites. New faunistic records for Altai are given for other species of the family Diplomaragnidae. All currently known members of Diplomaragnidae from Altai are keyed, including the new species.

We studied the quill mite fauna of the family Syringophilidae, associated with bee-eaters. We examined 273 bird specimens belonging to nine closely related species of the genus Merops, representing two phylogenetic sister clades of a monophyletic group. Our examination reveals the presence of two species of the genus Peristerophila, as follows: (1) a new species Peristerophila mayri sp. n. from Merops viridis in the Philippines, M. leschenaulti in Nepal and Sri Lanka, and M. orientalis in Sri Lanka; and (2) P. meropis from M. superciliosus in Tanzania and Egypt, M. persicus in Sudan, Tanzania, Liberia, Senegal, Kenya, and D.R. Congo, M. ornatus in Papua New Guinea, M. philippinus in Thailand, Indonesia and Sri Lanka, and M. americanus in the Philippines. The prevalence of host infestations by syringophilid mites varied from 3.1 to 38.2%. The distribution of syringophilid mites corresponds with the sister clade phylogenetic relationships of the hosts, except for P. meropis associated with Merops americanus. Possible hypotheses for the host lineage shift are proposed.

An annotated list of dolichopodid species recorded from Kurile Archipelago (Russia) is given for the first time. Sciapus basarukini sp. n. from Kunashir Island is described and illustrated. New records for 26 species, including 8 species new for the Kurile Islands, are presented. Long-legged flies are recorded for the first time from the Anuchina, Tanfilyeva, Polonskogo, Urup, Chirpoy, Brat-Chirpoyev, Simushir, Ushishir, Matua, Raikoke, Paramushir, Kharimkotan, Makanrushi, Atlasov, and Onekotan islands. Two species are excluded from the fauna of Kurils. In total, 54 species are recorded from the Kurile Archipelago that appa¬rently makes up 50–60% of the actual dolichopodid fauna in this region. The trends discovered on the Kurile Islands for plant species, i.e. the landscape diversity and the number of plant species increase from small to large islands, and decrease from southern islands northward, are generally supported by the case of flies of the family Dolichopodidae.
