Description of a new fossil Anthoxyela species (Hymenoptera, Xyelidae) from Yixian Formation of Northeast China

This paper reports a new species Anthoxyela orientalis sp. nov. referred to the genus Anthoxyela Rasnitsyn, 1977 of the subfamily Macroxyelinae (Symphyta, Xyelidae). This fossil was collected from the Yixian Formation of western Liaoning, China. Based on characters of this specimen, the diagnosis of the genus Anthoxyela is revised.

An extinct new family of flower bugs, Vetanthocoridae fam. nov., with 2 new tribes, Vetanthocorini and Crassicerini, 8 new genera, and 9 new species (Byssoidecerus levigatus gen. & sp. nov., Collivetanthocoris rapax gen. & sp. nov., Vetanthocoris decorus gen. & sp. nov., Vetanthocoris longispicus gen. & sp. nov., Curvicaudus ciliatus gen. & sp. nov., Mecopodus xanthos gen. & sp. nov., Pustulithoracalis gloriosus gen. & sp. nov., Curticerus venustus gen. & sp. nov., and Crassicerus furtivus gen. & sp. nov.) are described from the Late Jurassic Yixian Formation in western Liaoning Province, China. These fossil records suggest there was an important diversity of flower bugs in the earlier Late Jurassic of northern China. A key to four flower-bug families and a key to the known fossil flower bugs are provided.

In this paper a new species Cretonanophyes zherikhini sp. nov. and a new genus and species Abrocar brachyorhinos gen. et sp. nov., all placed within the family Eccoptarthridae, are described and illustrated. They pertain to the Late Jurassic Yixian Formation of the western Liaoning province, China. This finding represents the first record of fossil eccoptarthrids from China.

This study presents one telamonioid species new to science based on morphological characteristics and molecular phylogenetic analyses. Cortinarius khinganensis was collected from the Greater Khingan Mountains, Northeast China and it is characterized by hygrophanous, vivid brownish red and striate pileus, white universal veil, and subglobose spores. According to phylogenetic analyses results, C. khinganensis belongs to the section Illumini, which is a lineage distantly related from subgenus Telamonia sensu stricto. Detailed descriptions of the new species and the comparisons with morphologically similar species are provided. The phylogenetic relationships within the section Illumini are also discussed.

A new genus and species, Mirimordella gracilicruralis gen. et sp. nov., in the subfamily Praemordellinae of Mordellidae, is described and illustrated based on a nearly complete fossil specimen. It is from the Yixian Formation of western Liaoning Province, NE China. The diagnosis of the subfamily Praemordellinae is emended based on this new species. Characters such as simple and linear maxillary palpi, simple claws, simple penultimate segments of fore and middle tarsi, small hind coxal plates, slender hind femora, only apical ridges on hind tibiae and tarsi, and no elongated last tergum suggest that Praemordellinae might be the precursor of modern mordellids. The resemblance between the new species and the Late Jurassic Praemordella martynovi indicates close relationships between them and with the tribe Stenaliini in the subfamily Mordellinae. The position of epicoxa and slender hind femur suggest that the new species may be more primitive than Praemordella martynovi and may indicate the age of the Yixian Formation no later than Late Jurassic.

Tubaria squamata is described as new from Jiaohe county, Jilin province, China. This species is distinctive morphologically because of the small (slightly) hairy or scaly pileus, subelliptic to elliptic non-amyloid basidiospores, subclavate to cylindrical or lageniform cheilocystidia, and a pileipellis as a cutis. Phylogenetic analyses based on internal transcribed spacer sequences with Bayesian Inference analysis (BA) and Maximum Likelihood (ML) showed that T. squamata is different from related species. Illustrations and a complete taxonomic description are also provided, as well as a key to the Tubaria species known from China.

Galerina variibasidia, a new species in the Hymenogastraceae, was discovered in Arxan, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China. This species is presented with morphological description, illustrations, and supported by phylogenetic analyses using Maximum Likelihood and Bayesian Inference analyses with the internal transcribed spacer rDNA sequences.

A new species, Calocybe decurrens, is illustrated and described in detail based on morphological characteristics and phylogenetic analyses. Calocybe decurrens is mainly characterized by its decurrent gills and by its stipe that discolors upon maturation. Molecular phylogenetic analyses were based on the internal transcribed spacer (ITS1-5.8S-ITS2) and the large subunit of the nuclear ribosomal DNA (nrLSU) sequences. The results indicated that its affiliation is in genus Calocybe, where it occupies an isolated position. A full description, color images, illustrations and a phylogenetic tree to show the placement of the new species are provided.

A new pterosaur, Hongshanopterus lacustris gen. et sp. nov., from the Early Cretaceous Jiufotang Formation, western Liaoning, China is described. The specimen (IVPP V14582) consists of a skull preserved in palatal view and some isolated cervical vertebrae. Based on the labiolingually compressed teeth with a triangular crown Hongshanopterus lacustris is referred to the Istiodactylidae. It presents several plesiomorphic features such as the teeth not confined to the anterior third of the skull but extended more posteriorly, and is thus considered the most primitive member of this group. This new species also differs from other istiodactylids by having more teeth, some showing the crown distinctively directed posteriorly. Three other members of the Istiodactylidae are currently represented in the Jiufotang deposits: Nurhachius ignaciobritoi, Istiodactylus sinensis and Longchengpterus zhaoi. To those we add Liaoxipterus brachyognathus, previously classified in the Ctenochasmatidae but that also has triangular labiolingually compressed teeth, and is a potential senior synonym of Lonchengpterus zhaoi. The palatal anatomy of Hongshanopterus lacustris also agrees with previous hypothesis that considers Istiodactylidae more closely related to the Anhangueridae than to Pteranodon (or Pteranodontidae).
