A New Species

The genus Hypsohapsis Hoey-Chamberlain & Weirauch was erected based on only one male specimen from southern Brazil (São Paulo). Hypsohapsis amazonica sp.n., described herein from the Brazilian Amazon, is based on a male and two females collected in pristine tropical forest. The female of Hypsohapsis is described for the first time. In addition, an updated key to the genera of Hypselosomatinae is provided.

A New Species

In this paper a new species of Cryptachaea Archer, 1946 based on males and females is described from Brazilian caves: Cryptachaea pilar Santanna & Rodrigues, new species from the states of Minas Gerais and São Paulo. The females of Cryptachaea parana (Levi, 1963) and C. schneirlai (Levi, 1959) are described and illustrated for the first time. Cryptachaea uviana (Levi, 1963) is synonymized with C. migrans (Keyserling, 1884). The species Cryptachaea alacris (Keyserling, 1884), C. benivia Rodrigues & Poeta, 2015, C. parana (Levi, 1963) and C. schneirlai (Levi, 1959) are recorded for the first from Brazil; and C. migrans for the first time from Bolivia. Additionally, new records from Brazilian caves are provided for Cryptachaea parana, from the states of Tocantins, Goiás, Minas Gerais, Mato Grosso do Sul and São Paulo; C. schneirlai and C. alacris from the state of Pará; C. dea (Buckup & Marques, 2006) and C. rioensis (Levi, 1963) from Pará and Minas Gerais, C. jequirituba (Levi, 1963) from Minas Gerais and C. benivia from São Paulo.

Currently, the distribution of Brachycephalus hermogenesi (Giaretta and Sawaya, 1998) ranges from the state of Rio de Janeiro to the state of São Paulo. Herein, we report for the first time the occurrence of B. hermogenesi in the state of Paraná, southern Brazil.

Uma espécie nova para a ciência de crustáceos isópode valvífero, Arcturella sawayae sp.n., é registrada no Brasil. foi coletada na algas Sargassum cymosum e Galaxaura sp., em Ubatuba e São Sebastião, litoral norte do Estado de São Paulo. A espécie distingue-se facilmente das demais pelo padrão de disposição dos tubérculos na cabeça, 4 primeiros pereónitos e pleostelson. Este é formado por um único segmento, sendo a fusão dos pleónitos indicada por depressões ao invés de por linhas de sutura. Considerando que os gêneros compondo a família Arcturidae estão pobremente diagnosticados, é fornecida uma diagnose parcial de Arcturella G. O. Sars 1899, numa tentativa de melhor identificar o gênero, e facilitar futuras revisões da família, altamente necessárias.

A New Species

Pseudogaurax idiogenes Wheeler sp. n. (type locality: Iporanga, São Paulo, Brazil) is described from specimens reared from the egg masses of dobsonflies (Corydalidae) in southern Brazil. This is only the second record of Pseudogaurax larvae feeding on Megaloptera eggs (first from the Neotropical region). Larvae of most species of Pseudogaurax are predators of spider eggs.

Eleocharis pseudobulbosa, a new species of Cyperaceae from Southern Brazil (Capão Bonito, São Paulo), is here described based on external morphological studies. This species is characterized by the presence of conspicuous stolons with straw-colored scales, forming a bulb-like structure in the growing points of the new culms; circular to oval culms in cross section; spikelets with small number of flowers [10–25(–30)]; achene small (0.6 mm long) and slightly reticulate; and stylopodium as wide as the achene. A detailed illustration and a diagnostic comparison with close morphological related species are presented.

Cibyra pluriargenteus (Viette, 1955) is redescribed and both sexes are figured for the first time. The new monotypic genus Limyra, gen. nov., (Lepidoptera, Hepialidae) is erected to include L. silvai sp. nov. from São Paulo state, southeastern Brazil. The male genitalia are diagnostic for the genus. The male holotype is deposited in the collection of the Museu de Zoologia, São Paulo, São Paulo, Brazil.

A New Species

A new species of the genus Holoaden is described from the Atlantic forest of the state of São Paulo, Brazil, being restricted to primary or slightly disturbed high altitude cloud forests along the northeastern portion of the Serra do Mar. The typelocality is determined as Estação Ecológica de Bananal, in the Municipality of Bananal, State of São Paulo, Brazil. The new species is characterized by its moderate body size (female 42.6–44.2 mm SVL; male 37.2–38.5 mm SVL) with long and slender limbs, a head wider than long, a highly glandular dorsum, covered by well developed macroglands that extend to the internasal region, thigh and tibia, and an intense dark brown dorsal coloration and dark grey ventral surface.

Laonice branchiata, a new spionid polychaete, is described based on material collected in shallow waters of estuarine and shelf environments off the States of Paraná, São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro (SE Brazil).(Laonice branchiata, uma nova espécie de Spionidae da costa sudeste brasileira). Laonice branchiata, uma nova espécie de poliqueta da família Spionidae, é descrita a partir de material coletado em ambientes estuarinos e de plataforma ao longo dos estados do Paraná, São Paulo e Rio de Janeiro (costa sudestedo Brasil).

Electrona risso, a warm circumtropical lanternfish species distributed in all oceans, has been reported in the western Atlantic from Suriname to Southern Brazil. Re-examination of specimens attributed to this species which presumably supported the southernmost record in the western South Atlantic and are available at Museu de Zoologia, Universidade de São Paulo, Brazil, revealed that they were misidentified and are really Electrona paucirastra. As a result, E. paucirastra is reported for the first time in southern Brazil and the distribution of E. risso in the western Atlantic is discussed.

A New Species

Miconia goldenbergiana, a new species from the Atlantic Forest in southeastern Brazil, is described and illustrated. The new species have been extensively collected since the end of the XIX century but have been confused with M. budlejoides and M. formosa, species that also have discolorous and suprabasal leaves and glomerulate inflorescences. From the first species, it can be distinguished by papyraceous leaves with the abaxial surface covered by lepidote trichomes. From the second species, it can be distinguished also by the texture of leaves, and by its narrower size, crenulate to serrulate margins and acute base, besides the smaller size of the flowers. The new species is known from the states of Espírito Santo, Rio de Janeiro and eastern São Paulo, and is in danger of extinction.
