This work presents the first descriptions of the pupal morphology of five species of western Palaearctic clearwing moths Bembecia abromeiti Kallies & Riefenstahl, 2000, B. handiensis (Rämisch, 1997), B. lomatiaeformis (Lederer, 1853), B. psoraleae Bartsch & Bettag, 1997, and B. vulcanica (Pinker, 1969) in the genus Bembecia—subgroup ichneumoniformis. The main morphological features are described and illustrated with photographs and line drawings. Diagnostic characters, as well a key for the determination of pupae of the studied species and related taxa, Bembecia ichneumoniformis (Denis & Schiffermüler, 1775) and B. albanensis (Rebel, 1918) are presented.

The main morphological features are described and illustrated with photographs and line drawings. Diagnostic characters of pupae of the studied species and the related species, Pyropteron triannuliforme (Freyer, 1842), are presented.

AbstractThe descriptions of pupae of three Western Palaearctic species of Erebidae (subfamily Herminiinae), namely Idia calvaria (Denis et Schiffermüller, 1775), Pechipogo flavicrinalis (Andreas, 1910), and Nodaria nodosalis (Herrich-Schäffer, 1851), and three species of Noctuidae (subfamilies Acronictinae and Bryophilinae), namely Oxicesta geographica (F., 1787), Simyra dentinosa (Freyer, 1839), and Cryphia ochsi Boursin, 1940 are given. The main morphological features are described, compared with those of the related taxa and also illustrated in 57 line drawings. The systematic status and position of the described species present in the current systems are also discussed from the point of view of morphology of their pupae.

A new Western Palaearctic species of the genus Platyspathius Viereck, 1911, P. picardi sp. nov. is described and illustrated. This species is the most similar to the Afrotropical P. clymene Nixon, 1941 and the Eastern Palaearctic P. hospitus Belokobylskij et Ku, 2001 with which it is compared. A key for determination of the Palaearctic species of Platyspathius is provided.

AbstractAhnea keejeongi Park and Carlton (Coleoptera: Staphylinidae: Pselaphinae), a new genus and new species of New Zealand endemic beetle belonging to the supertribe Faronitae is described. Six previously described species are included to this genus and four species are synonymised as follow: Sagola dissonans Broun, 1921 and S. planicula Broun, 1921 under Ahnea ventralis (Broun, 1912); S. carinata Broun, 1912 and S. lineiceps Broun, 1921 under Ahnea lineata (Broun, 1893). A key to species, habitus photographs, line drawings of diagnostic characters, and distribution maps are provided.

AbstractWe analyzed the phylogenetic relationships between eight Aphidius Nees and six Lysaphidus Smith species on the basis of 12 morphological characters by parsimony analysis. The consensus tree does not support the generic status of Lysaphidus. Aphidius iranicus, sp. nov., associated with Titanosiphon bellicosum Nevsky on Artemisia absinthium L. from Iran, is described. The new parasitoid species is described and illustrated by line drawings, and its diagnostic characters are discussed. The taxonomic position of the subgenus Tremblayia Tizado and Núñez-Pérez is also considered. Tremblayia and Lysaphidus are newly classified as synonyms of Aphidius. The following new or revised combinations are proposed: Aphidius adelocarinus Smith, comb. rev., A. ramythirus Smith, comb. rev., A. rosaphidis Smith, comb. rev., A. viaticus (Sedlag), comb. nov., A. arvensis (Starý), comb. nov., and A. erysimi (Starý), comb. nov.

Varicocele is a frequent pathology of the testicles, detected during preventive examinations and subsequently often associated with infertility. The most common is the left varicocele. This review presents anatomical features and basic pathophysiological mechanisms promoting the development of varicocele in childhood. For proper treatment of this pathology, a careful approach to the examination and determination of the indications and tactics of the planned surgical intervention is necessary. There is a lot of disagreement about the need, time and technique of the intervention. The practitioner should balance the pros and cons of timing and treatment options.

Identification keys are provided for the final (4th) instar larvae of genera of Chironomidae (Diptera), from aquatic habitats in Australia and New Zealand. Morphological features of taxonomic utility are discussed and illustrated by line drawings. Summaries of described species for each genus and their distribution is provided, with reference to means of further identification where available. In the subfamily Podonominae, 5 genera are keyed of which 3 are recorded from New Zealand; the 4 genera of Aphroteniinae are from Australia (absent from New Zealand); in Diamesinae 1 genus is Australian, 2 are from New Zealand; in the Tanypodinae 21 genera are found in Australia and 4 are from New Zealand; in Orthocladiinae 31 genera are reported from Australia, 14 from New Zealand; and in Chironominae 43 genera are keyed from Australia, 9 from New Zealand. Larvae of Axarus Roback, Chernovskiia Sæther and Omisus Townes (Chironomini) are recognised in Australia for the first time. The undescribed larva of Paucispinigera Freeman, endemic to New Zealand, is keyed and several other New Zealand taxa are included based on unpublished records. Genera reported from Australia and New Zealand as adults, but unknown as larvae, are listed.

Abstract—Seven new species of the neotropical genus Microlicia are proposed (Microlicia capitata, M. coriacea, M. mutabilis, M. piranii, M. polychaeta, M. repanda, and M. sparsifolia). All seven species are known only from the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, mainly in the Diamantina Plateau and/or the Serra do Cabral. Diagnoses, line drawings, distribution maps, notes on diagnostic characters, conservation assessments, and habitat and phenology are provided.

Summary This contribution presents a redescription of three Labronema species originally described from Italy: L. angeloi, L. carusoi and L. pulchrum. Their type material is re-examined, described and illustrated with line drawings and micrographs. New information about these species is provided, including morphometrics and relevant morphological features. Morphologically, the three species form a homogeneous group, but can be separated by significant differences in the structure of female genital system, cuticle thickness on the tail, and shape and size of the spicules. Labronema pulchrum is regarded as a junior synonym of L. duhouxi.
