Chaetonerius Hendel is the only native genus of Neriidae from the African continent, with 21 species described. Although widely distributed across the Afrotropical region, the species of Chaetonerius are still poorly known and recent efforts are being devoted to clarify the taxonomy of the family and discover its diversity. Here, we describe a new neriid species from Tanzania, Chaetonerius stichodactylus sp. n. Illustrations of the male holotype, including the external and internal genitalia, are presented and a key for the species of Neriidae of Tanzania is provided.

During the study of mites, inhabiting soil and litter in Zanzibar, Tanzania, five species of microdispid mites were found. Two of them, namely Cochlodispus zanzibariensis sp. nov. and Caesarodispus africanus sp. nov., are described as new for science. The genera Cochlodispus Mahunka, 1972 and Rostrodispus Mahunka, 1969 stat. nov. are redefined. Rostrodispus brevisetus (Mahunka, 1975a) comb. nov. and Scutadispus variosetosus (Mahunka, 1075a) comb. nov. are redescribed. Pseudomicrodispus setosus (Evans, 1952) is recorded from the Afrotropical region for the first time. Cochlodispus operosus Rack and Kaliszewski, 1985 is moved from the family Microdispidae to the genus Bakerdania of the family Neopygmephoridae.

The family Ismaridae Thomson, 1858 is reported from the Afrotropical region for the first time. A total of 15 species are recognised, 14 of which are described as new: Ismarusafricanussp. n. from Cameroon, Kenya, Malawi, South Africa; I.apertussp. n. from Kenya; I.bicolorsp. n. from Cameroon, Kenya; I.goodrichisp. n. from Kenya; I.kakamegensissp. n. from Kenya; I.kenyensissp. n. from Kenya; I.laevigatussp. n. from South Africa; I.madagascariensissp. n. from Madagascar; I.minutussp. n. from Kenya, Malawi, Zimbabwe; I.nigrofasciatussp. n. from Malawi, Uganda; I.notaulicussp. n. from Kenya; I.rawlinsisp. n. from Kenya, Malawi; I.steinerisp. n. from Madagascar; I.watshamisp. n. from Botswana, Malawi, South Africa, Zimbabwe. Ismarushalidayi Förster is reported for continental Africa from South Africa (new record). We provide an identification key to all species in Afrotropical region.

The first representative of the family Anthomyzidae discovered in New Zealand, viz. Zealantha thorpei sp. nov., is described and illustrated. Zealantha gen. nov. is diagnosed and its relationship to other known genera of Anthomyzidae is discussed on the basis of morphological features including characters of the male and female internal genitalia. Notes on the habitat association and distribution of the new species are given.

Plokiophiloides bannaensissp. nov., is described from Xishuangbanna, Yunnan Province, representing the first record of the family Plokiophilidae from China. The new species also represents the first record of the genus Plokiophiloides in the Oriental Region, a second zoogeographical region besides the Afrotropical Region. Photographs of the live individuals inhabiting a spider web within natural habitats, male and female habitus, wings of adult, male genitalic structures, female abdomen structures and scanning electron micrographs of forewing, head, thorax and legs are provided. A key to all known species of Plokiophiloides is presented, with a distribution map.

Seven new species of the genus Zhengitettix Liang, 1994 are described: Z. hosticus sp. nov., Z. mucronatus sp. nov. and Z. spinulentus sp. nov. from Vietnam; Z. albitarsus sp. nov. and Z. extraneus sp. nov. from Thailand; Z. palawanensis sp. nov. and Z. taytayensis sp. nov. from the Philippines. Two species, Z. curvispinus Liang, Jiang et Liu, 2007 and Z. obliquespicula Zheng et Jiang, 2005 are firstly recorded from Vietnam. Resuming published and own data, a revision of classification of Chaetognatha is presented. The family Sagittidae Claus & Grobben, 1905 is given a rank of subclass, Sagittiones, characterised, in particular, by the presence of two pairs of sac-like gelatinous structures or two pairs of fins. Besides the order Aphragmophora Tokioka, 1965, it contains the new order Biphragmosagittiformes ord. nov., which is a unique group of Chaetognatha with an unusual combination of morphological characters: the transverse muscles present in both the trunk and the tail sections of the body; the seminal vesicles simple, without internal complex compartments; the presence of two pairs of lateral fins. The only family assigned to the new order, Biphragmosagittidae fam. nov., contains two genera. Diagnoses of the two new genera, Biphragmosagitta gen. nov. (type species B. tarasovi sp. nov. and B. angusticephala sp. nov.) and Biphragmofastigata gen. nov. (type species B. fastigata sp. nov.), detailed descriptions and pictures of the three new species are presented.

A New Species

The genus Systenus Loew, 1857 is recorded from Afrotropical Region for the first time. A description of a new species, Systenus africanus Grichanov sp. nov., and notes on females of another probably new Afrotropical species are provided. The genus is considered now as cosmopolitan. A key to species and species groups of the Systenus worldwide is compiled.
