Description of two new species of ants of the genus Myrmecina Curtis, 1829 (Hymenoptera: Formicidae: Myrmicinae) from the Eastern Himalayas

Two new species of the ant genus Myrmecina Curtis, 1829, M. bawai sp. nov. and M. reticulata sp. nov., are described and illustrated based on the worker caste from Mizoram, Northeast India. The genus is reported for the first time from Mizoram, the Indian state with the highest percentage of forest cover. A key to the Indian fauna of Myrmecina is also provided based on the worker caste.

The hitherto unknown worker caste of Anomalomyrma Taylor, 1990 is described for the first time. Two new species, Anomalomyrma boltoni n. sp. from Cameron Highlands, Peninsular Malaysia and Anomalomyrma helenae n. sp. from El Nido region of Palawan, Philippines, are described. In workers of both new species abdominal segments II and III (petiole and postpetiole) are rigidly fused together across both tergites and sternites. This is the first report of such fused abdominal morphology in worker Formicidae. Both new species lack a vertical lamella on the mandible, originally considered to be diagnostic for the genus and the main character separating Anomalomyrma from Protanilla Taylor, 1990. Modified generic diagnoses are proposed for both Anomalomyrma and Protanilla. Wing venation is described for the first time from an anomalomyrmine alate gyne, and prospects for the future of the nomenclature of the group's genera are discussed. A modified key to the genera of Leptanillinae is given along with a short note on the correct authorship of some leptanilline names.

Two new species of the subfamily Dorylinae Leach, 1815 namely Parasyscia ganeshaiahisp. nov. and Syscia indicasp. nov. are described and illustrated based on the worker caste. These species were collected in the Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary, Arunachal Pradesh, Northeast India. Keys to Parasyscia of India and Syscia of Asia are provided based on the worker caste.

Two distinctive new species of torrent frogs, Amolops nidorbellus sp. nov. and Amolops kohimaensis sp. nov. are described from the state of Nagaland in northeast India. Both species are compared with all known congeners. Amolops nidorbellus sp. nov. morphologically belongs to a group of torrent frogs including A. caelumnoctis, A. splendissimus, A. kaulbacki and A. viridimaculatus and is unarguably the most spectacularly coloured species in the genus. Amolops kohimaensis sp. nov. appears most similar to A. granulosus, each with extensive dorsal spinulation. The two new species are sympatrically occurring and currently known only from the type locality, about 5 kilometers west of Kohima town, Nagaland. The small forest fragment is in the process of extensive destruction from local quarrying activities, thus these species may already be threatened. Additional taxonomic comments are provided for A. caelumnoctis, A. splendissimus, A. daorum and A. mengyangensis.

The genus Paraxantia Liu & Kang, 2009 hitherto included 8 species from China. Herein we describe two new species: P. rubripes sp. nov. from ES-Tibet and P. kaquewa sp. nov. from WN-Yunnan. A female of Paraxantia is described for the first time. The differences separating Paraxantia and Xantia are redefined. Illustrations and habitus images are provided. The distribution of Paraxantia species in China is discussed and mapped. The types are deposited in Insect Collection of Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China (IZCAS).

Within the Asiatic tiger beetle fauna, Parmecus Motschulsky, 1864 stat. rest., stat. nov., is reestablished as a subgenus of Cylindera Westwood, 1831 with Cylindera (Parmecus) dromicoides (Chaudoir, 1852), as its type species, and the lectotype and paralectotypes of Cicindela dromicoides Chaudoir, 1852 are designated as well. Two other species are included, Cylindera (Parmecus) armandi (Fairmaire, 1886), from the Himalayan Region, and Cylindera (Parmecus) mosuoa, sp. nov., from Yunnan, China. Cylindera (Parmecus) as a subgenus is characterized, a key to identify its species is provided, and its species composition is discussed. Cylindera (Parmecus) dromicoides (Chaudoir, 1852) is newly recorded from Pakistan and the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir, while Cylindera (Parmecus) armandi (Fairmaire, 1886) is recorded for the first time from the Chinese province of Sichuan. The records of C. armandi from Bhutan, as well as C. dromicoides from Yunnan Province (China) are rejected due to erroneous identifications.

The genus Pholcus Walckenaer, 1805 is reported from Pakistan for the first time. Two new species of the Pholcus nenjukovi species-group are described: Pholcus hamuchal Yao & Li sp. nov. (Gilgit Baltistan, male and female) and Pholcus kalam Yao & Li sp. nov. (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, male and female). Type material is deposited in the Institute of Zoology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (IZCAS) in Beijing, China.

In this paper, M. yanomami n. sp., from Brazilian Amazonia, Chaetacis bandeirante n. sp., from Central Brazil, and the males of M. gaujoni Simon, 1897 and M. ruschii (Mello-Leitão, 1945) n. comb. , respectively from Ecuador and Brazil, are described and illustrated for the first time. An ontogenetic series of the last development stages of both sexes of Micrathena excavata (C. L. Koch, 1836) is illustrated and briefly described. Adult females are larger and have longer legs and larger abdomens than adult males. Probably females undergo at least one additional moult before adulthood, compared to males. Micrathena ornata Mello-Leitão, 1932 is considered a junior synonym of M. plana (C. L. Koch, 1836), and M. mastonota Mello-Leitão 1940 is synonymized with M. horrida (Taczanowski, 1873). Acrosoma ruschii Mello-Leitão, 1945 is revalidated, transferred to Micrathena and considered a senior synonym of M. cicuta Gonzaga & Santos, 2004. Chaetacis necopinata (Chickering, 1960) is recorded for Brazil for the first time. Chaetacis incisa (Walckenaer, 1841) is considered a nomen dubium.

This paper provides a comprehensive check list of Nolinae species recorded in Hong Kong, China based on the collections of the second author, Dr. Roger Kendrick and the Natural History Museum, London. The checklist comprises 30 species.  Two of them are new to science and described here as new species (Spininola kendricki sp. n., and Hampsonola ceciliae sp. n.). Misidentification of the female paratype of Spininola nepali László, Ronkay & Ronkay, 2014 is revealed and the true female of S. nepali is illustrated with its genitalia described here for the first time. The hitherto unknown female of S. armata László, Ronkay & Witt, 2010 is also illustrated here for the first time. All species recorded from Hong Kong are illustrated together with their genitalia on 54 colour and 46 black and white diagnostic figures.

The species of the water scavenger beetle genus Laccobius Erichson, 1837 occuring in China are reviewed. Two new species are described: Laccobius (Glyptolaccobius) qinlingensis sp. nov. (Shaanxi) and L. (Cyclolaccobius) hainanensis sp. nov. (Hainan). Five species are recorded for the first time: Laccobius (Dimorpholaccobius) bipunctatus (Fabricius, 1775), L. (D.) striatulus (Fabricius, 1801) and L. (Compsolaccobius) pallidissimus Reitter, 1899 (all from Xinjiang), L. (Microlaccobius) tonkinensis Gentili, 1979 (Shaanxi), and L. (Compsolaccobius) decorus (Gyllenhal, 1827) (Qinghai). Additional faunistic data from China are provided for the following species: L. (Cyclolaccobius) hingstoni Orchymont, 1926, L. (C.) nitidus Gentili, 1984, L. (C.) politus Gentili, 1979, L. (C.) yunnanensis Gentili, 2003, L. (Dimorpholaccobius) simulans Orchymont, 1923, L. (s.str.) binotatus Orchymont, 1934, L. Two new species of the genus Olophrum Erichson, 1839 of the laxum group are described and illustrated: O. lama Shavrin, sp.n. (Nepal: Rolwaling Himal) and O. schuelkei Shavrin, sp.n. (China: Shaanxi). Olophrum laxum Shavrin & Smetana, 2017 from Yunnan and O. pacei Shavrin & Smetana, 2017 from Shaanxi and Hubei provinces of China are recorded for the first time. A modified key of the laxum group is provided.
