We report a new genus and species of hydrozoan jellyfish belonging to the order Anthoathecata collected from the Seto Inland Sea, western Japan. Caltsacoryne setouchiensis gen. et sp. n. can be distinguished from other species of Corynidae based on the following combination of morphological characters: number of tentacles, cnidocyst pads, manubrium length, and the shape of the gonad and tentacles. A table comparing the primary diagnostic characters of this new genus of Corynidae is presented.

With nine species ascribed to eight genera, the sinoalid froghopper tribe Fangyuaniini has been the most abundant and diverse cicadomorphan group in Kachin amber. Based upon recently reported new fossil materials, we herein revised the diagnostic characters of this tribe, and a new genus and species, Electrala muae Chen & Zhuo, gen. et sp. nov., in Kachin amber is described and illustrated. The new taxon can be discriminated from its relatives by a series of unique morphological characters: the head very broad, almost as wide as thorax, the pronotum strongly shortened and about 4 times as wide as long, and forewings with the bifurcation of M and CuA almost at the same level and distad of claval apex. Additionally, a new generic name, Cretadorus Chen, nom. nov., is proposed for Mesodorus Chen & Wang, 2019, since the latter was already preoccupied by a living marine nematode genus Mesodorus Cobb, 1920.

Claviplatysgen. n. and its type species C.henryisp. n. (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Plataspidae: Plataspinae) are described from Kerala, India. The new genus is related to the Indomalayan genera Heterocrates Amyot & Serville, 1843, Cratoplatys Montandon, 1894, and Cronion Bergroth, 1891, but differs from them and all other plataspid genera by the peculiarly modified antenna. The morphological characters and systematic relationships of the above genera are discussed.

A new genus and species of the lacewing family Psychopsidae, Electropsychops handlirschi gen. et sp. nov., is described based on a well preserved male specimen from the mid-Cretaceous amber of Myanmar. The new genus possesses a number of diagnostic characters of Psychopsidae, i.e., the lack of a forewing median nygma, the presence of a vena triplica, and the straight and barely forked RA. However, it also exhibits some remarkable characters that are present in Osmylopsychopidae, such as the distally narrowed forewing costal space and the sigmoid MA stem in the hind wing. The relationship between Psychopsidae and Osmylopsychopidae is briefly discussed.

Fifteen dendrochirotid holothurians, including four new species, were collected from the Seto Inland Sea and the western part of the Sea of Japan, western Japan by the training and research vessel (TR/V) TOYOSHIO MARU of Hiroshima University, during the 2014–15 surveys. Massinium toyoshiomaruae sp. nov., Thyone kyushuensis sp. nov., T. liaoi sp. nov., and T. toyoshiomaruae sp. nov. are described as new species. Massinium toyoshiomaruae sp. nov. is readily distinguishable from all congeners by the absence of bodywall ossicles and the presence of table ossicles in the tentacle base. Thyone kyushuensis sp. nov. possesses large polyporous-tables in the introvert and tentacles, bodywall ossicles of a peculiar shape, and tentacle ossicles comprised mostly of unbranching rods and/or rod-like rosettes, which differ from those of all congeners. Thyone liaoi sp. nov. resembles T. pedata Semper, 1867 in its bodywall ossicles, however, it is distinguishable by the absences of huge ossicles in the body wall and the needle-shaped ossicles in the gonadal tubules. Thyone toyoshiomaruae sp. nov. is distinguishable from all other Thyone by the presence of the peculiar shape of the bodywall ossicles. Partial sequences of the mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I gene are provided from the type specimens of the new species as DNA barcoding data.

A new genus and species of goby, Gymnesigobius medits sp. nov., is described from the western Mediterranean slope bottoms at the Balearic Islands. The new goby belongs to the Gobius-lineage (Gobiinae). Examination of the single known specimen exhibits a unique combination of morphological characters which could not be fitted to any known genus. Gymnesigobius gen. nov. is morphologically distinguished from all other genera in the Gobius-lineage by the following combination of characters: chin without fold or barbels; mouth terminal with anterior tip above horizontal level of lower eye edge; predorsal area and first dorsal fin base naked; pelvic fin anterior membrane well developed; head with anterior oculoscapular and preopercular canals, posterior oculoscapular canal absent; pores of head canals enlarged, e.g. pores α and ρ larger or of about the same size as interspaces to pore β; six transverse suborbital rows of sensory papillae, four continuous suborbital rows in front of row b, fifth row divided in three parts but in front of row b, sixth row just as superior part above row b and below pore α; longitudinal suborbital row b barely reaching forward to the vertical from posterior edge of eye. A full description of the new genus and species is provided. The new species, collected at a depth of between 344 and 364 m (mean depth of 354 m), is one of very few gobiid species found at bathyal depths.

Abstract Burmese amber is well known for preserving unique extinct lineages of insects. Here, we describe a new fossil beetle in its larval stage from Burmese amber. Bayesian and parsimony phylogenetic analysis of 50 morphological characters support this fossil as being sister to both the tribes Dineutini and Orectochilini, representing an extinct stem lineage in Gyrininae. It is described here as a new genus and species of whirligig beetle, Chimerogyrus gigagalea gen. & sp. nov., a taxon that preserves remarkable intermediate features between the whirligig beetle tribe Gyrinini and the crown Orectochilini and Dineutini. This new taxon preserves key features for studying the evolution of characters within the larval stage of the Gyrinidae and highlights the importance of Burmese amber for preserving both stem and crown lineages present during the mid-Cretaceous, before the end-Cretaceous mass extinction event.

A commensal relationship is described between the polyclad flatworm Paraprostatum echinolittorinae Faubel & Sluys gen. et sp. nov. and gastropod molluscs living on the Pacific coast of central America. Although the worms are relatively large in comparison with their hosts, the latter sustained no apparent damage. Considering the fact that the molluscs live in the upper eulittoral zone and littoral fringe of the shore, it is unlikely that the polyclads could survive for long outside the hosts. Diagnostic characters for the new genus and species are a long penial stylet joined to the proximal vesicle and absence of Lang's vesicle. It is pointed out that Aprostatum clippertoni Bock, 1913 and A. longipenis (Kato, 1943) have been incorrectly transferred to the genus Euplana Girard, 1893 and that Discoplana malagensis Doignon, Artois & Deheyn, 2003 should be transferred to the genus Ilyella Faubel, 1983.

A new fossil stonefly genus and species of the family Perlidae, Pinguisoperla yangzhouensis gen. et sp. nov., is proposed as the second known genus from mid-Cretaceous Burmese amber. The new genus is characterized by its dark coloration and the basally enlarged and curved cerci. Morphological characters of the new genus and species are described, illustrated, and compared with related taxa.
