Calcium Silicate phosphor acquires a higher luminous efficiency when it is doped with rare earth activated ions. Silicate phosphors are used for a fluorescent, a cathode-ray tube, a luminous body, a vacuum ultraviolet excitation light emitting element etc. The silicates of calcium are known for their thermal stability, high temperature strength, low thermal expansion, cheep residence and chemical inertness. The present paper reports on the synthesis, characterization and photoluminescence properties of Eu3+ doped calcium silicate phosphor prepared by conventional solid state reaction method heating at 12000C for 3 hrs. The received cakes are grounded for 30 minutes each. The phosphors are prepared and the received powder is subjected to PL, XRD, SEM, EDAX and CIE analysis. The following section discusses and the experimental results are mentioned in these phosphors. The present Phosphor can act as a host for red light emission in many display devices and technological applications.

The excitation wavelength of conventional Tb3+-activated phosphor is near 270 nm. This study describes novel green-emitting Tb3+-activated amorphous calcium silicate by ultraviolet excitation at 378 nm. The Tb3+-activated amorphous calcium silicate was prepared by heating a sample of Tb3+-activated calcium silicate hydrate (CSH) at 900°C for 30 minutes. The emission wavelength of the resulting phosphor was 544 nm. The optimum excitation wavelength within the range 300–400 nm was 378 nm. The Tb3+-activated amorphous calcium silicate emitted green by ultraviolet irradiation. The optimum initial Tb/Ca atomic ratio of this phosphor was about 0.5. A mechanism for the action of the phosphor is proposed, in which Tb3+ions existing in the layer of the CSH lead to loss of water molecules and OH groups.

AbstractControlled reaction conditions in simple, template-free hydrothermal processes yield Tm-Lu2O3 and Tm-GdVO4 nanocrystals with well-defined specific morphologies and sizes. In both oxide families, nanocrystals prepared at pH 7 reaction media exhibit photoluminescence in ∼1.95 μm similar to bulk single crystals. For the lowest Tm3+ concentration (0.2 % mol) in GdVO4 measured 3H4 and 3F4 fluorescence lifetimes τ are very near to τrad.
