Background. Educational games are widely used in business classes in general, and supply chain management (SCM) classes in particular. These games are designed to familiarize students with the real business world. Most SCM games are ready-made, with pre-set learning objectives focusing on a certain module in a supply chain. Intervention. This article presents the new spreadsheet-based Flexible Supply Chain Management Game (FSCMG) and the findings of its pilot study. FSCMG’s features are transparent to instructors and students alike. It is easily modifiable to suit an instructor’s learning objectives. Method. Six groups of undergraduate students took turns playing three modules, namely a wholesaler, manufacturer, and supplier. There were two groups per module to represent two supply chains. The students’ spreadsheets are analyzed and presented. Results. Students’ spreadsheets revealed that they were able to employ SCM conceptual understanding in FSCMG, particularly pricing strategy, inventory management, forecasting, and the relationships within a supply chain. Conclusion. FSCGM helped the students apply their in-class knowledge in a real-world situation and be well prepared for their future careers where an extensive understanding is required.

Importance and impact of the systems related to Agribusiness and Agri-food, are increasing around the world and demand a paramount attention. Collaboration in the inventory management is an integral part of the supply chain management, related to proactive integration among the chain actors facilitating production and supply, in especial in the agroindustrial sector of the Departamento de Antioquia, Colombia. This research establishes the main relationships between latent variables as collaboration, technology, models, optimization and inventory management, based on a literature review and applying a Structural Equation Model to a survey data of a sample of agribusiness companies. The results show that Available Technologies associated with Big Data, generates improvement of Collaboration Strategies, improving also Forecasting and Optimization; besides, Inventory Planning and Collaboration are related to Available Technologies associated with Big Data. A Poisson regression model and a Structural Equation Model estimations detect that the increasing strategies of technologies and Big Data are favorable to apply collaboration in the supply chain management, increasing possibilities to the enterprise competitiveness.

<p>Supply chain management (SCM) is a critical factor in the current global scenario. This organizational capability has a recent knowledge base, which is being accumulated, validated, and certified by groups like the Association for Operations Management (APICS). Therefore, training in SCM has been growing as one of the most convenient ways of becoming “Certified in Production and Inventory Management” (CPIM) from APICS. Companies all over the world have invested in SCM training; however, some companies have conditioned the continuity of their training programs to the benefits assessment. This paper contributes by proposing an evaluation model for specific program training on SCM. This model was applied in a global chemical company, which allowed capturing its impact on organizational and individual competencies, as well as on the core competencies. The proposed model includes the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and concepts in the SCM literature. The main result revealed by this research is that an SCM training based on APICS CPIM is really perceived as beneficial, in individual or organizational terms, for a real-world company. Therefore, this company should be confident that its SCM training program is improving and strengthening its core competencies.</p>

Supply chain is the process of continuous flow of products or services from source to the destination. Supply chain management has become an effective tool now a day to survive in this competitive world. Organizations do their best to harvest profits by adopting better supply chain management practices for competitive advantage and organizational performance. In this paper an attempt has been made to understand the relationship among supply chain practices, competitive advantage, and organizational performance using structural equation modelling. This research conceptualizes and develops five secondary dimensions of supply chain practices (Use of technology, SC speed, Customer satisfaction, SC integration, and Inventory management). The research also identifies four primary competitive advantage components (Inventory management, Customer satisfaction, Profitability, and Customer base identification) and six primary organizational performance components (Financial Performance, Market performance, SC competencies, Customer satisfaction, Stakeholder satisfaction, and Innovation and learning). The data for analysis was collected from top 10 non-livestock organized retail players operating in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, New Delhi and, Gurgaon in India. The relationships in the proposed framework were tested using structural equation modelling. The results indicate that Indian retailers know that competitive advantage has high impact on SCP but they have less understanding in matching SCP and competitive advantage with organizational performance.

In today's business world, having talented, educated, and qualified employees who can use technological developments has become an important advantage. Maintaining this superiority can be done with employees who are technically business-oriented. Economic uncertainty in the global markets enables countries to attach importance to vocational education, which will make their youth a part of the current economic process. The aim of this study is to reveal the necessity of vocational education in vocational high schools and vocational schools of higher education in our country to sustainably meet the global workforce needs of supply chain management. In this context, South Korea has been selected on global scale, which is thought to play an important role in the vocational education policies implemented in her development, and the general and vocational education system examined has been compared with the situation in Turkey.

In recent years, the prospect of information exchange independent of time and place has been a compelling driver for organizations worldwide to adopt mobile technology applications in their various business practices. In particular, the application of mobile technology in Supply Chain Management has drawn widespread attention from researchers and practitioners who endorse adaptive and agile supply chain processes. This chapter discusses the applications of mobile technologies in various areas of supply chain management and the potential benefits of those technologies along the dimensions of reduced replenishment time and transactions and billing cycles. Among other discussions, the role of mobile procurement, inventory management, product identification, package tracking, sales force, and field service automation technologies is highlighted. To substantiate the basis for adopting mobile technologies for supplychain management, different market drivers for mobile applications are exemplified and applied to the three macro-level processes of supplier relationship management, internal supply chain management, and customer relationship management; a resulting typology of mobile supply chain management applications is presented.

Supply chain management (SCM) is a complex business discipline because it combines the concepts of forecasting, inventory management, logistics and distribution, vertical and horizontal integration, and global issues. This complexity creates a challenge when teaching the concepts to both undergraduate and graduate students. A web-based computer simulation can be very useful in helping students to grasp the difficult concepts. It helps students to think systematically and logically as they progress through scenarios with uncertainties and complexity. This article provides detailed implementation protocols for using a web-based SCM game including game descriptions, classroom pedagogy, and simulation assessment. Recommendations are also provided based on the instructor’s experience.

Background: In an increasingly competitive business world, businesses need to be able to measure the effectiveness of their supply chain management process practices against proven best practice frameworks. A number of these frameworks exist internationally but have to be used within the context of knowing the relative strengths and weaknesses of potential benchmarking frameworks. Two such frameworks were identified in the research and a case was made to use one such framework, the Global Supply Chain Forum (GSCF) framework, to measure the effectiveness of the supply chain practices of a leading confectionery manufacturing company in South Africa.Objective of the research: The purpose of the research was to identify an international best practice framework, which could be used by South African manufacturing organisations to benchmark their supply chain management (SCM) practices.Methodology: The methodology followed was a literature review of the existing SCM frameworks to identify a framework, which would be the most suited to the objective of the study, followed by a case study of a leading manufacturing organisation’s SCM practices benchmarked against those found in the framework.Results and conclusions: The main finding of the case study was that there is a high degree of adherence between the case study organisation’s SCM practices and those found in the SCM framework. There was also generally a high level of importance ascribed by respondents to the best practices contained by the GSCF framework. It was therefore concluded that the GSCF framework proved to be a useful instrument for a comprehensive analysis of supply chain management processes and practices for a manufacturer in the fast moving consumer goods industry, with potential for applications by organisations in the supply chains of other industries.

An efficient supply chain management is essential for the survival of organizations in the present competitive business world. Without effectual supply chain management strategies, the performance of organizations deteriorates. To examine different strategies such as customer orientation, innovating strategy and technological innovation in the financial and non-financial performance of pharmaceutical firms. A path analysis study was conducted in which a questionnaire with regard to strategic management on supply chain and logistics was distributed amongst 10 pharmaceutical companies in Jordan. The results have revealed a positive and significant influence of customer-oriented strategies on the financial performance of companies. In contrast, the results show no significant impact of technological innovation on financial and non-financial performance of the pharmaceutical firms. However, there has been a significant correlation found between innovating strategies and the performance of the organizations. The study has asserted companies to focus and attempt more efforts to enhance their supply chain management strategies to upgrade their performance.

This case study is designed to explore the challenges of forecasting and inventory management in spare parts industry. Most items in this industry have lumpy, intermittent, erratic and slow demand patterns. Traditional forecasting techniques cannot be applied to this group. Also most textbook methods on inventory planning, assumes the demand is normally distributed – which is also not the case in spare parts industry. Strategies can be tested for the demand data provide for about 40 items
