This article aims to examine the relationship between selected behavioral factors and Global Positioning System (GPS) usage among small-scale fishers in Malaysia. An adapted version of the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) was tested among a sample of 400 small-scale fishers to examine the relationship between technology-related behavioral constructs (compatibility, social influence, effort expectancy, learning culture, and performance expectancy) and GPS usage. The sample was selected from 12 fishery districts in Malaysia. Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) confirmed that all five technology-related behavioral constructs included in the model recorded a significant relationship with GPS usage. The results extend the generalizability of the UTAUT to a previously understudied setting of community technology usage. Understanding GPS usage among small-scale fishers from the extended UTAUT perspective can provide policy makers, public, nongovernmental organizations (NGOs), and other concerned parties with knowledge that can build awareness and shape capacity building efforts for small-scale interventions to increase the use of GPS. This will, in turn, reduce the risks associated with fishing routines and enhance fishing yields.

The following research attempts to investigate the determinants influencing consumers' intention to adopt mobile payment (MP). The research model was adapted based on three constructs from the unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT), including performance expectancy, effort expectancy, and facilitating conditions in the research model. In addition, usage experience was also added to the model to test for moderating effect. An online survey conducted through Taiwanese chat rooms resulted in 348 valid responses, which were analyzed using Smart PLS. Results indicated that (1) effort expectancy, performance expectancy, and facilitating conditions were three major factors influencing intention to use mobile payment; (2) facilitating conditions played a significant role in impacting effort expectancy and performance expectancy; (3) usage experience positively moderated the relationship between facilitating conditions and performance expectancy; and (4) usage experience also positively moderated the relationship between facilitating conditions and effort expectancy.

The volume and value of cash-based transactions in Nigeria is high and expected to rise. This is liked to non-adoption of new e-payment process introduced by the Central Bank. The adoption of Point of Sale (POS) terminal is reported to be very low. A number of researchers have used several technology adoption theories to answer a similar phenomenon, but their studies were fragmented. Thus the Unified Theory of acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) combined eight among those numerous theories and models of technology adoption, toward a unified view. However, several studies that used UTAUT and investigate behavioural intention to use technology yielded conflicting findings. Therefore this paper, based on review of past literature, conceptualised that ‘technology awareness’ moderates the relationship between performance expectancy, effort expectancy, social influence, facilitating conditions and behavioural intention to use POS.

Purpose Grounded in the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology 2 (UTAUT2) (Venkatesh et al., 2012), the purpose of this paper is to examine the antecedents and consequence associated with esports gameplay by proposing the Esports Consumption (ESC) model, including six determinants of esports gameplay intention (hedonic motivation, habit, price value, perceived effort expectancy, social influence and flow) and behavioral consequence (media consumption intention of esports events) that were linked to esports gameplay. Design/methodology/approach The proposed model was tested using the data (n=348) that were collected from esports consumers at two points in time. Per the technology adoption theories (i.e. TAM, UTAUT2), the authors incorporated a temporal separation when measuring the relationship between playing intention and playing behavior. For the purpose of data analysis, CFA and SEM were used to examine the hypothesized model. Findings As a result, four determinants (i.e. hedonic motivation, price value, effort expectancy and flow) were identified as the critical factors influencing esports consumers’ esports gameplay intention. Furthermore, the bootstrap method procedure verified that a sequential relationship among esports gameplay intention, esports gameplay and media consumption of esports events. Originality/value Theoretically, it has developed a research model that explains various triggers resulting from esports gameplay intention, which is causally linked to esports gameplay and media consumption behavior. Practically, the primary implication has to do with providing information regarding esports consumers’ playing behavior with esports game publishers, which organize esports events and leagues.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to uncover the effects of perceived transaction convenience (PTC) and perceived transaction speed (PTS) on unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) in the context of m-payment. Design/methodology/approach – A predictive analysis approach was used to examine the PTC and PTS using a two-stage partial least square (PLS) and neural network (NN) analyses. Findings – The findings reveal that only effort expectancy (EE) and facilitating conditions (FC) were discovered to significantly influence BI. More importantly, PTC was found to have positive significant relationship with EE and performance expectancy (PE). Moreover, PTS also supported the positive relationship with BI and EE. Practical implications – The findings of the study provided further insights to mobile payment service providers, online banking industry players, and all decision makers and stakeholders involved. Originality/value – Despite of many attempts devoted to understand m-payment adoption, the effects of PTC and PTS on m-payment are not well understood.

University Customer Care Center (UC3) is a complaint service system for active academic civitas of the University of Jember. Implementation of UC3 is expected to optimize complaints complaint related to performance evaluation at the University of Jember. One of the keys to the successful implementation of information technology, The purpose of the study is to know the factors that influence the acceptance of the academic civitas in using the UC3 application. This research will use the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) method by utilizing the Performance Expectancy (PE) variable, Effort Expectancy (EE), Social Influence (SI), and Facilitating Condition (FC) to see how it affects the intensity of application usage UC3 And the influence of moderator variables (Age and Experience) to the relationships of those variables. Based on the results of data analysis PLS-SEM known that the PE, EE, and SI variables have a positive and significant effect on the Behavioral Intention (BI) variables as well as the FC and BI variables significantly positive and significant to the Use Behavior (UB) variables. Age influences inter-variable relationships for ages 26-35 years, 36-45 years, and >45 years, while Experience influences the relationship between variables for usage intensity ≥3 times. Based on the results of the five hypotheses received can be interpreted that the UC3 application was accepted by the academic and the acceptance is still not fully.

This study investigates the factors that influencing citizens' intention to use e-government services and its causal relationships using the Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology model (UTAUT). Data relating to the constructs were collected from 150 respondents but only 85 responses were received and subjected to Structural Equation Modeling analysis (SEM). The proposed model fits the data well. The findings reveal that facilitating condition, social influence, attitude, effort expectancy and performance expectancy determine citizens' intention towards e-government services. Additionally, attitude is predicted jointly by effort expectancy and performance expectancy. This study would help government policy decision makers to increase the adoption of e-government services in Tunisia country.

This article examines the relationship between training, competence and performance of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the context of e-business. Literature review combined with a triangulation of qualitative and quantitative methods were used to investigate these relationships. Data about e-business competences and performance in 339 SMEs in three European countries was combined with data about training supply from 116 providers of e-business related training. The empirical findings document a positive relationship between training, competence and performance and show that training explains variances in e-business competences and performance in terms of efficiency, complementarities, lock-in and novelty. The research has both theoretical and practical implications. It contributes to theoretical development by lending support to the idea that methodological issues are an important reason behind the lack of empirical support frequently reported in the literature. The study has practical implications for public policy makers, training suppliers and SME managers.

This research paper examined the continued intention of college students to use DiDi mobile car-sharing services in China. The unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT) was used as the theoretical framework while the data analysis was completed with SPSS. The results have demonstrated that performance expectancy, reliability, efficiency, and security and privacy were significant predictors of the continued intention to use mobile car-sharing services. Contrary to our expectations, effort expectancy was not a significant determinant of the continued intention to use mobile car-sharing services. In addition to these direct effects, the moderating impact of trust in the internet was also examined. The moderating analysis showed that trust in the internet showed no significant moderating impact on the relationship between performance expectancy, effort expectancy, reliability, efficiency, and security and privacy and the continued intention to use mobile car-sharing services. The implications of these findings are discussed.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between transaction costs and the performance variance of peasant households and specialized cooperatives, as well as to explore whether or not this relationship varies across different regions in China. Design/methodology/approach – Based on the transaction cost theory (TCT) and the contingency theory (CT), a survey was undertaken at county level to support the main effects and moderating effects and the results were analyzed using a general linear model. A complementary case study was also used to further discuss the results. Findings – It was found that the change rate of peasant households’ scope of operation is sensitive to inadequate market information, purchase and sales expense and resolving disputes expense. In terms of specialized cooperatives, the change rate of their scale of operations is sensitive to inadequate market information, the chances of violating an agreement and incomplete norms. The moderating effect of regional classification is supported in terms of purchase and sales expenses on the performance variance of peasant households, and in terms of inadequate market information on the performance variance of specialized cooperatives. Research limitations/implications – First, the data were collected at the county level, which could only reflect the conditions of the macro-environment. Second, many variables were designed as dummies for the sake of brevity and efficiency, because the respondents were officers in local agricultural departments. Third, transaction costs may not have a direct effect on the variance of productivity but indirect through many potential mediators. Practical implications – The results not only provide useful information for agricultural operators to analyze the transaction costs related to their forms of organization, but also impartial advice for policy makers to consider the form of agricultural operators in different regions. Originality/value – This study focusses on the role of the external environment by integrating the TCT and CT theory. Furthermore, it seeks to explore whether the relationship between transaction costs and the performance variance of peasant households and specialized cooperatives varies across different regions of China.
