SummaryManganhumite, orthorhombic, a 10·54(1), b 21·45(2), c 4·822(9) Å, space group Pnma, Z = 4, (Mn0·68Mg0·30Fe0·01Ca0·01)7(OH)2(SiO4)3, is the manganese analogue of humite whose type locality is the Brattfors mine, Nordmark, Province of Värmland, Sweden. It is a skarn assemblage mineral and occurs with katoptrite, manganostibite, magnussonite, galaxite, etc., which replace manganosite grains in magnetite-manganosite ore.The mineral is biaxial (+), α = 1·707(3), β = 1·712(3), 7 = 1·732(3), 2V7(obs.) = 37(4)° r > v perceptible, cleavage {010} perfect, hardness = 4, specific gravity = 3·83(5). The five strongest powder lines are 1·777(10), 2·500(7), 3·371(6), 2·628(6), and 1·525(6).

SummaryMacFallite, Ca2(Mn3+,Al)3(OH)3[SiO4] [Si2O7], is a new species occurring with manganite, braunite, orientite and pyrolusite blebs, stringers, and framboidal aggregates, which replace calcite in fissures and lenses in Keweenaw basalt near Manganese Lake, Copper Harbor, Keweenaw County, Michigan. It is rich reddish brown to maroon in coarse aggregates; compact massive material is brown to dull pink. The streak and powder are brown with a reddish tint. Lustre silky to subadamantine, specific gravity 3.43(2), hardness 5+, cleavage {001} perfect; twinning by reflection on {100} is universal. The mineral is monoclinic, space group P21, or P21/m, Z = 2, a 8.929(6), b 6.045(5), c 10.905(7) Å, β 119.10(3)°, α 1.773(5), β 1.795(5), γ 1.815(5), sign + or −, pleochroism α yellow, β light brown, γ dark brown, γ‖b. Orientite, Ca2Mn 2+ (OH)4[Si3O10]-Ca2 (OH)2[Si3O10] ·2H2O, orthorhombic, space group Cc2m, Ccm21or Ccmm, a 9.042(4), b 6.090(2), c 18.990(7) Å, α 1.765(5), β 1.79(1), γ 1.81(1), sign + or −, α brownish yellow, β reddish brown, γ deep brownish red, α‖a, γ‖b, also occurs in moderate abundance. It is turbid chocolate brown in platy masses but crystals are transparent rich reddish brown. Streak and powder brown. Observed forms are m{110}, c{001}, and poorly developed to absent α{100}, thin to thick tabular parallel to {001}, cleavage (or parting) {001} perfect, specific gravity 3.33.A fumarolic origin is proposed for the assemblage, which in many respects is similar to the great manganese oxide deposits in Oriente Province, Cuba. Macfallite appears to be structurally related to pumpellyite while orientite is apparently related to ardennite.

SummaryBahianite, Sb3Al5O14(OH)2-Sb3Al5(Al, Be, Si)<2O16, monoclinic, a 9·406(6), b 11·541(8), c 4·410(3) Å, β 90·94(3)°, Z = 2, space group C2/m, is a new species from the Paramirim region, south central Bahia state, Brazil. It occurs as water-worn pebbles (‘favas’) with quartz, andalusite, kyanite, diaspore, eskolaite, cassiterite, etc. Colour tan to cream, crystals in vugs colourless, tan or pale violet. Specific gravity ranges from 4·89 to 5·46 (5·26 g cm−3 for Sb3Al5O14(OH)2); hardness 9, cleavage {100} perfect, lustre adamantine, biaxial (−), 2V large, α = 1·81, β = 1·87, γ = 1·92, dispersion r > v.The crystal structure represents a new type and is based on hexagonal close-packed oxygens. It is related to the structure of simpsonite Ta3Al14O13(OH).

We present the description of Phrynus calypso sp. nov. from Trinidad and Tobago, and Venezuela This species is very similar to Phrynus pulchripes (Pocock), however after examining Colombian specimens of P. pulchripes (ca. type locality), many differences were found. Characters commonly used in diagnosis of Phrynus species are variable and make identification difficult. Differences in a few structures, like pedipalpal spines, could not be enough to provide a useful diagnosis.  It is necessary to account for variation of similar species in conjunction, and select non overlapping groups of characters. Observations in the variation in both species are presented, pointing out sources of confusion, and suggesting alternative characters to support diagnoses. At the moment, details about variation in many species in Phrynus, like that of P. pulchripes, are poorly known, and for this reason a redescription is provided.

Anopheles (Nyssorhynchus) deaneorum sp. n. is described from specimens collected in Guajará-Mirim, Rondônia state and Rio Branco, Acre state, Brazil, on human and animal baits, inside dwellings and from the progenies of engorged females. A detailed description of the shape of egg, external appearance of adult female and male, genitalias, female cibarial armature and complete chaetotaxy of pupa and larva show that it can be distinguished from Anopheles albitarsis from the type-locality and other areas by the paler general external appearance of the adult, the posterolateral tufts of scales, on the female abdominal terga and the branching of the outer anterior clypeal seta (3-C) of the fourth instar larva (as shown in illustrations). If species can also be distinguished from An. albitarsis from the type locality by the allele frequencies at 11 enzymic loci as represented by Nei's Genetic Distance.

A new definition for the genus Moribaetis Waltz & McCafferty 1985 is given. Its type species, Moribaetis maculipennis (Flowers 1979) is redescribed based on male and female imagoes reared from larvae near the type locality in Panama. Larvae, formerly wrongly attributed to Moribaetis salvini (Eaton 1885), and a male imago, formerly wrongly attributed to Moribaetis macaferti Waltz 1985, belong to a new species Moribaetis latipennis sp. n., which is described here based on a male imago reared from larva in Panama. Both species, M. maculipennis and M. latipennis sp. n., are distinct from M. salvini, which is known as a single male imago (lectotype) from Costa Rica. All other species, formerly attributed to Moribaetis, are excluded from this genus; a new combination Caribaetis macaferti comb. n. is proposed for the species originally described as Moribaetis macaferti Waltz (in Waltz & McCafferty) 1985, and a new combination Baetis (Rhodobaetis) mimbresaurus comb. n. is proposed for the species originally described as Moribaetis mimbresaurus McCafferty 2007.

A new species of Placospongia is described from Bahia State, Brazil. Placospongia giseleae sp. nov.. The specimen is found on the underside of rocks in shallow waters (0-20m), and is unique by having a spiculation consisting of two tylostyle categories, selenasters and acanthomicrorhabds. In addition, Placospongia ruetzleri, is recorded for the first time to Bahia state, 2.974 km southwards from its type locality, the Guyana shelf. The diversity of Placospongia species is raised from two to four taxa. An identification key for Western Atlantic Placospongia species is presented.

Abstract—Artocarpus bergii, named for the late C. C. Berg, is from Halmahera in the Moluccas, and is a close ally of breadfruit (A. altilis). The species resembles the Micronesian A. mariannensis but with generally smaller parts. Because it is known from only a small area and the type locality is a potential mining site, A. bergii is likely of conservation concern, particularly given its status as a crop wild relative.

A new species of the serpulid genus Metavermilia Bush, 1905 and a new record of the genus Omphalopomopsis Saint-Joseph, 1894 are described from deep-sea lava rocks collected from 2,013 m at Cross Seamount, southwest of the Hawaiiarchipelago. Metavermilia zibrowii sp. nov., differs from its congeners mostly by the presence of a simple and concaveoperculum, extent of the thoracic membrane and tube morphology. Omphalopomopsis langerhansii (Marenzeller, 1885)is the type species of the genus and it is only known through its type specimen. This species is characterized by a simpleoperculum with a shallow convex calcareous endplate, cylindrical peduncle, presence of Apomatus chaetae and high num-ber of teeth in the thoracic uncini. This is the first record of this species outside the type locality and both genera are newly recorded for the Hawaiian Islands.

  The newly described species, Ziziphus budhensis was confirmed as Chinese Jujuba, Z. xiangchengensis on the basis of their DNA analyses. Z. budhensis was explained as a new species on the basis of some morphological differences in 2015. In the Year 2016, the DNA samples were collected from the type locality of Nepal, and the molecular analyses were carried out. The type specimens and the other available images from the different herbariums were examined. Besides, the protologue and the type images were studied carefully. The result showed that though there were some differences in the habit and the habitat of the plant, the previously described new species, Z. budhensis was found to be same as the Chinese species, Z. xiangchengensis. This study also showed the importance of the molecular work of Z. budhensis and confirmed it morphologically distinct although it was very close to the Chinese species.Banko Janakari, Vol. 27, No. 1, page: 55-59

We report the discovery of a new species of the genus Pycnogonum Brünnich, 1764 found in the shallow waters of Green Island, Taiwan. Pycnogonum (Nulloviger) granulatum sp. nov. is characterized by the presence of the granular integument, a dorsal tubercle on the proboscis, the transverse ridges on the dorsal surface of the trunk, and the spines on the ventral surface of the tibia, tarsus, and propodus having cleft tips. Because the male gonopores are present and ovigers are absent, the present species belongs to the subgenus Nulloviger. The present species has been compared with P. (N.) moolenbeeki Stock, 1992, P. (N.) lobipes Stock, 1991, P. (N.) tuberculatum Clark, 1963, P. nodulosum Döhrn, 1881, and P. spatium Takahashi, Dick & Mawatari, 2007. Among the congeners, P. spatium is geographically the closest congener, of which type locality is Amami Island, Japan. The holotype of P. spatium was loaned from Hokkaido University Museum (ICHUM) and re–examined. To determine the exact gender of the holotype of P. spatium, additional investigations of the coxal pellicula and gonopores are required.
