This article focuses on the tunnel construction process in arid and semi-arid regions which producing water environment problems ,proposing to initialize the control for the water pollution, containment of surface water and groundwater quality deterioration and loss of water and soil in the process of tunnel construction.The water eco-system of tunnel engineering in the arid and semi-arid regions is researched and established, so as to achieve the control for the surface water and groundwater pollution problems of tunnel project in arid and semi-arid regions, and to provide relevant guidance for the tunnel project.

The Gelo’s living environment and worship of nature breeds its ecological concept of “shield and sustain”, self-consciousness of water ecology, water protection behavior custom and rules, and superior hydro-ecology wisdom based adequate protection and utilization of water resources. With today’s commitment to holding and carrying forward Gelos’ traditional wisdom of water protection, it is recommended to popularize and apply the modern water conservancy science and technology and the Gelos’ traditional wisdom of water protection in a parallel or integrated way, which is of far-reaching significance to boosting the rural revitalization of the Gelo ethnic group and even promoting the domestic construction of modern ecological civilization.

This chapter describes a science and literacy integrative unit on water ecology and reading about water purification in post-civil war Sudan through the text A Long Walk to Water by Linda Sue Park, 2010. The authors describe the process of integration according to the 5E learning cycle: engage, explore, explain, elaborate, evaluate. This teaching scenario is also further explicated through connections to The Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and overlapping practices between NGSS and The Common Core State Standards in English Language Arts. Aspects of the text are used in conjunction with the hands-on science inquiry to dig deeper into the standards.
