Introduction to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and the Development of Learning Designs to Pioneering Chemistry Learning with the Credit System in Madiun CityAbstractThe purpose of this activity is to introduce and develop STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) learning designs in improving the Competence of High School and Vocational School Chemistry Teachers in Madiun City. Partners in this activity are chemistry teachers who are members of the High School and Vocational High School Chemistry MGMP in Madiun City. The activity was attended by 21 teachers. The method in this activity is the transfer of knowledge through workshop activities. The results of this community service activity are: (1) being able to find solutions to problems faced by chemistry teachers in Madiun City, indicated by an increase in understanding achievement through training by 26.36% (seen from the initial test and final test), and (2) Teachers' understanding of STEM was 83.81%. The hope of the participants and collaboration partners (MGMP Kimia Kota Madiun), this kind of activity can be sustainable, especially compiling and developing STEM-Based Learning Designs on chemistry materials in secondary schools and the implementation of learning.

Interpersonal intelligence is social intelligence that shows one's ability to create good relationships with friends or the environment. In fact, this intelligence has not been maximally trained in learning at school, especially in chemistry learning, even though the intelligence is important enough to hone the child's ability to be able to socialize with their environment. The purpose of this study was to identify the real conditions of students' interpersonal intelligence in Pharmacy Vocational High School in the city of Semarang. A survey was performed in the academic year 2018/2019 with a sample of 57 students of class XII Pharmacy Vocational High School in the city of Semarang, Indonesia, who had given their approval as participants. Sampling was done randomly. Data collection techniques were carried out by observation, peer assessment, and self-assessment when applying chemistry learning. The results showed that 56% of students had low interpersonal intelligence based on observations and, according to the results of survey analysis with peer assessment instruments, there were 59% of students also categorized low for this capability. The survey results with self-assessment instruments also showed 56% of students had low interpersonal intelligence. Low intelligence is mainly in the indicators of the ability to ask, answer questions, and provide answers. This fact is relatively similar to the literature, which reveals that 50% of students have interpersonal intelligence with a medium-low category. So the conclusion is that in reality, this intelligence is still low.

This study aimed to examine the effect of the Learning Cycle 4E-RE on the vocational school students’ chemistry learning outcomes in light vehicle engine maintenance subject. The research subjects were 164 Vocational High School (SMK) students majoring in Technology and Engineering, the Automotive Engineering expertise program, consisting of 100 students in the experimental group and 64 students in the control group. The research instrument was a learning outcome test with 30 multiple-choice items with reliability of Kuder-Richardson ρ (KR 20) = 0.837. This study used a quasi-experimental pre / posttest control group design. The mean similarity of the experimental class and the control class was tested from the pretest results using t-test statistical analysis. The research hypothesis was tested using the ANCOVA test with a significance level of 5% (0.05). The results showed that there were differences in the learning outcomes of students who were taught with the Learning Cycle 4E-RE strategy with students who were taught with verification/conventional teaching. Student learning outcomes in the experimental class were higher than those in the control class. The implication of this research is that contextual learning strategies such as the Learning Cycle 4E-RE are suitable for vocational students to improve their learning outcomes. For further research, reflection activities in a learning strategy need to be tested again using different learning strategies and chemistry topics.

AbstractThe aim of this study is to produce character on chemistry module which is valid and practical. Type of this study is a research and development (R&D) research using Borg and Gall’s study design which covers the potential and problems, data collection, product design, validation design, revision design, and product trials. This study was conducted in Darul Hikmah Islamic High School, Darel Hikmah Vocational High School and Taruna Satria Pekanbaru Vocational High School. The subject of this study is all of the teachers in chemistry subject which consists of five teachers. The object of this study is character-based discipline pillar on chemistry module. The data from questionnaires. The instruments of this study were try-out validity questionnaires and practical questionnaires. The collecting data technique of this study was descriptive analysis technique. The module data was validated with average 88.6% (valid) and data tried-out to five chemistry teachers practicallited was tested with average 87.6% (practical). Based on the result finding, this study could be identified that character-based on chemistry learning is suitable and practical so can be applied for chemistry education  especially on atomic structures and periodic components. Keywords: module, character education, atomic structures, periodic components
