In the present paper, we consider the floating problem of river-crossing shield tunnel in the process of construction. Firstly, based on the theoretical analysis of equilibrium states of excavation face and shield segments away from shield tail, we obtain the equation for calculating the minimum thickness of overlying soil in the associated equilibrium states. Secondly, the above derived formula are applied in the Fuhe bridge project, which is a sub-project of No.1 Nanchang metro; at the same time, numerical simulation is carried out to further evaluate the safety with the change of overlying soil thickness. Lastly, some useful conclusions are drawn through comparative study, which is helpful to similar projects.

Pit excavation has a negative impact on the existing shield tunnel close to it. The deformation mechanism of the existing tunnel during the pit excavation was analyzed. Theoretical analysis results shows: excavation unloading decreases the pressure in horizontal direction of the tunnel, which causes tunnel taking the horizontal displacement to the pit side; convergent deformation keeps in horizontal stretching, vertical compression, but the deformation is aggravated; tunnel vertical uplift or settlement is determined by the pit excavation depth; precipitation would make tunnel sinking. Five domestic pit excavation engineering instance was collected, and the reliability of the analysis in this article is proved by the statistical analysis of the measured data.

One of the key technologies to make shield tunnel successful is to ensure that the subway tunnel can through exactly according to design requirements. This paper conducts theoretical analysis of shield tunnel through errors sources, reasonable distribution of its limits for plane control measurement in different stages and illuminates layout principles and limits optimization of ground control point in long and large shield zone.

The splitting effect that is observed in microdiffraction pat-terns of small metallic particles in the size range 50-500 Å can be understood using the dynamical theory of electron diffraction for the case of a crystal containing a finite wedge. For the experimental data we refer to part I of this work in these proceedings.

Patients who have undergone several sessions of chemotherapy for cancer will sometimes develop anticipatory nausea and vomiting (ANV), these unpleasant side effects occurring as the patients return to the clinic for a further session of treatment. Pavlov's analysis of learning allows that previously neutral cues, such as those that characterize a given place or context, can become associated with events that occur in that context. ANV could thus constitute an example of a conditioned response elicited by the contextual cues of the clinic. In order to investigate this proposal we have begun an experimental analysis of a parallel case in which laboratory rats are given a nausea-inducing treatment in a novel context. We have developed a robust procedure for assessing the acquisition of context aversion in rats given such training, a procedure that shows promise as a possible animal model of ANV. Theoretical analysis of the conditioning processes involved in the formation of context aversions in animals suggests possible behavioral strategies that might be used in the alleviation of ANV, and we report a preliminary experimental test of one of these.
