The article analyzes the effects of surface atmospheric coagulation on steel elements. A brief overview of selected corroded road structures in urban infrastructure was presented. In order to carry out calculations of the bearing capacity and deformability of elements of a corroded structure, it is necessary to start from determining its corroded geometrical dimensions. The geometric characteristics of the corroded elements are changed compared to the new element. This affects the load capacity and deflection of beams.

Hydrolysis and dispersing behavior of aqueous ZrB2 slurry were investigated. The isoelectric point (IEP) of ZrB2 slurry was measured to be pH 6.3. The acid and base slurry underwent rather rapid change of pH after fabrication for one and three hours, respectively. The oxygen content of the boride powder increased slowly with static ageing time in acid and neutral slurries, while the value decreased in base slurry. Application of poly(ethyleneimine) changed IEP of the boride slurry to pH 10.4. Sedimentation test informed that stability of the slurry was improved when increasing the molecular weight of poly(ethyleneimine) to 70,000 and in acid slurry (pH 3).

The nucleation and initial stage of Pd2Si crystals on Si(111) surface is studied in situ using an Ultra-High Vacuum (UHV) Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM). A modified JEOL 200CX TEM is used for the study. The Si(111) sample is prepared by chemical thinning and is cleaned inside the UHV chamber with base pressure of 1x10−9 τ. A Pd film of 20 Å thick is deposited on to the Si(111) sample in situ using a built-in mini evaporator. This room temperature deposited Pd film is thermally annealed subsequently to form Pd2Si crystals. Surface sensitive dark field imaging is used for the study to reveal the effect of surface and interface steps. The initial growth of the Pd2Si has three stages: nucleation, growth of the nuclei and coalescence of the nuclei. Our experiments shows that the nucleation of the Pd2Si crystal occurs randomly and almost instantaneously on the terraces upon thermal annealing or electron irradiation.

SummaryA modification of the thromboplastin screening test of Hicks and Pitney is described, in which the effect of surface contact on the test plasma is controlled by the addition of a suspension of kaolin to the incubation mixture before recalcification.Comparative studies show the modified test to give more reproducible results than the standard method.
