The article analyzes the effects of surface atmospheric coagulation on steel elements. A brief overview of selected corroded road structures in urban infrastructure was presented. In order to carry out calculations of the bearing capacity and deformability of elements of a corroded structure, it is necessary to start from determining its corroded geometrical dimensions. The geometric characteristics of the corroded elements are changed compared to the new element. This affects the load capacity and deflection of beams.

The paper presents the analysis of the load-bearing capacity of thin-walled steel bars such as beam-column. It was assumed that the rods are subject to uniformly distributed surface corrosion in the atmosphere over their entire length. As a result of corrosion, the mass loss of these rods, i.e. the thickness of the cross-sectional walls of the rod are evenly reduced. Therefore, the dependence of the critical force - the eccentricity changes. The theory of stability of thin-walled bars was used to calculate the load capacity of the rod. To calculate changes in the load capacity of the rod, an interactive relationship was used that combines compression with bending. A calculation example of the load capacity of an eccentrically compressed rod with a “C” section which has been corroded has been presented.

The built-up cruciform section formed by two equal-leg angles has been widely applied in extra high voltage(EHV) transmission towers, however, domestic codes provide structure requirement and overlook the influence of multi filler plates to members’ bearing capacity. For the purpose of this, a pin end experiment covering 3 different cross sections(Q420, L160*12, L160*14 and L160*16) and 7 different slendernesses(25~55) has been run. This experiment contains totally 21 specimens. Furthermore, large amounts of models have been analysis by finite element method whose parameters contain variety b/t, λ, filler plate intervals and forms, amount of bolts in filler plate. A recommended formula is given for evaluating the influence of filler plates. The results show: multi filler plates enhance bearing capacity slightly for members with λ less than 35, and the better interval for filler plates is 10i-40i(i is the minimal radius of gyration); filler plates do not work well when b/t of the member is extreme large or small, a propositional b/t range for this kind of member is 11-16; the amount of bolts in filler plate has tiny influence on members’ bearing capacity; the recommended formula is applicable and feasible for design.

Abstract: 7 square steel tubular columns were tested to discuss the ultimate axial bearing capacity, ductility performance and the steel consumption under stiffened by steel belts and binding bars of different cross-sections. Test results indicate that only by increasing fewer amounts of steel usage, stiffened square CFST columns with binding bars can not only improve the overall effects of restraint and alleviate regional local buckling between the binding bars, but also improve the bearing capacity of concrete filled square steel tubular columns. The utility benefits and the economical benefit is considerable, deserving extensive use.

Nowadays cold bent steel thermal сold-bent С-profile is widely used in building construction but we still have some little studied questions in the fields of thermal conductivity, air permeability, resistibility and corrosion behavior of the profile. Cold-bent notched С-profile is used for interior exterior panel members. Lengthwise notches made chequerwise in the profile walls increase the distance of heat flow and decrease heat conductivity and eliminate cold bridges that is why the profile is called “thermal profile”. Cold-bent profile made by cold bending requires alternate approach when engineering structures are designed and maintained. The approach means thin walls’ and the profile special form’ impact on the bearing capacity and stability of the structures should be taken into account. In spite of the wide use of cold-bent notched C-profile in building frameworks, we see lack of information on how the notches influence the bearing capacity and stability of structures. There are no official normative documents on calculation and designing of cold-bent notched profile structures. We carry out theoretical and experimental investigations on global buckling and bearing capacity of steel members of C-shaped notched profiles of different cross-sections area. We carry out theoretical and experimental investigations on heat current passing through the thermal profile structure is held with the use of testing bed.

The paper considers a method of geometric modeling applied when solving basic twodimensional problems of the theory of elasticity and structural mechanics, in particular the applied problems of engineering. The subject of this study is vibrations of thin elastic parallelogram plates of constant thickness. To determine a basic frequency of vibrations, the interpolation method based on the geometric characteristic of the shape of plates (membrane, cross sections of a rod) is proposed. This characteristic represents a ratio of interior and exterior conformal radii of the plate. As is known from the theory of conformal mappings, conformal radii are those obtained by mapping of a plate onto the interior and exterior of a unit disk. The paper presents basic terms, tables, and formulas related to the considered geometric method with a comparative analysis of the curve diagrams obtained using various interpolation formulas. The original computer program is also developed. The main advantage of the proposed method of determining the basic frequency of plate vibrations is a graphic representation of results that allows one to accurately determine the required solution on the graph among the other solutions corresponding to the considered case of parallelogram plates. Although there are many known approximate approaches, which are used to solve the considered problems, only geometric modeling technique based on the conformal radii ratio gives such an opportunity.

One of the methods of improving the bearing capacity of bored piles is giving them a taper. The feature of these (wedge-type) piles is that under load they work "as a thrust" and transfer part of the load due to the normal component to the inclined side surface. Three sizes of tapered bored piles were tested, with the length of 4.5 m, head diameter 0.4; 0.5; 0.6 m and with cone angle 1o and 2,5o. The test results were compared with the test results of cylindrical piles, 4.5 m long, with head diameter 0.4 m and 0.6 m. It has been discovered that with the increasing cone angle, the bearing capacity of piles against the pressing load, especially the specific load capacity for 1 m3 of material, as compared to cylindrical piles, increases significantly. It has been determined that the larger is the diameter of the head of the pile, the higher is the bearing capacity against the horizontal load, and the bearing capacity against the pullout load is equal to the breakout force of a pile from the soil.

In this experimental work, strength results obtained on short columns subjected to concentric loads are presented. The specimens used in the tests have made of cold-rolled, thin-walled steel. Twenty short columns of the same cross-section area and wall thickness have been tested as follows: 8 empty and 12 filled with ordinary concrete. In the aim to determine the column section geometry with the highest resistance, three different types of cross-sections have been compared: rectangular, I-shaped unreinforced and, reinforced with 100 mm spaced transversal links. The parameters studied are the specimen height and the cross-sectional steel geometry. The registered experimental results have been compared to the ultimate loads intended by Eurocode 3 for empty columns and by Eurocode 4 for compound columns. These results showed that a concrete-filled composite column had improved strength compared to the empty case. Among the three cross-section types, it has been found that I-section reinforced is the most resistant than the other two sections. Moreover, the load capacity and mode of failure have been influenced by the height of the column. Also, it had noted that the experimental strengths of the tested columns don’t agree well with the EC3 and EC4 results.

The performance of joint connections has always been the key to precast assembly structures. This paper proposes a new type of joint connection that is made by means of pre-embedded steel plates and connected by bolts or welding without any wet work. Located outside the beam-column joint, the connection is arranged around the inflection point of the beam where the bending moment is small. Three precast beams of different cross-sections and a set of cast-in-place concrete contrast beams were prepared and loaded by the anti-symmetric static loading method. The results show that the joint connection changes the failure mode of the specimens, transfers the failure section from the weak point to the non-weak point, and improves the bearing capacity of the specimens. With the increase of the cross-section area of the embedded steel plate at the joint, the bearing capacity and the ductility of the specimens increase. The energy consumption capacity of the precast specimen is significantly higher than that of the ordinary cast-in-place concrete specimen. Since the joint has not been destroyed, the component can be replaced when other parts of the specimen are destroyed.

It is presented the formulation and solution of the load bearing capacity of statically indeterminable systems “reinforced concrete beam – deformable base” by spatial cross-sections under force and deformation effects. The solution of problem is currently practically absent in general form. It has been established the relationship between stresses and strains of compressed concrete and tensile reinforcement in the form of diagrams. The properties of the base model connections are described based on a variable rigidity coefficient. It is constructed a system of n equations in the form of the initial parameters method with using the modules of the force (strain) action vector. The equations of state are the dependences that establish the relationship between displacements which are acting on the beam with load. Constants of integration are determined by recurrent formulas. It makes possible to obtain the method of initial parameters in the expanded form and, consequently, the method of displacements for calculating statically indefinable systems. The values of the effort obtained could be used to determine the curvature and rigidity of the sections in this way. It is necessary not to set the vector modulusP, the deformation is set in any section (the module is considered as an unknown) during the problem is solving. This allows us to obtain an unambiguous solution even in the case when the dependence M–χ has a downward section, i.e one value of moment can correspond to two values of curvature.
