Longitudinal and transverse sound velocities of Lennard-Jones systems are calculated at the liquid–solid coexistence using the additivity principle. The results are shown to agree well with the “exact” values obtained from their relations to excess energy and pressure. Some consequences, in particular in the context of the Lindemann’s melting rule and Stokes–Einstein relation between the self-diffusion and viscosity coefficients, are discussed. Comparison with available experimental data on the sound velocities of solid argon at melting conditions is provided.

Abstract Seven solid phases including three metastable phases of (CH3)3CNH3NO3 were revealed by differential thermal analysis in the temperature range between 80 K and the melting point (418 K), and cationic dynamics in each phase was studied by use of 1H-NMR techniques. The highesttemperature solid phase obtainable above 412 K was found to be an ionic plastic phase, where the cations perform rapid translational self-diffusion and overall rotation about their center of gravity.

Abstract Differential thermal analysis (DTA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and the temperature dependence of the spin-lattice relaxation time (T1) and the second moment (M2) of 1H and 19F NMR were studied in (CH3)3CNH3BF4 and (CH3)3CND3BF4 . DTA and DSC revealed a solid-solid phase transition at 219 K for (CH3)3CNH3BF4 and at 221 K for (CH3)3CND3BF4 . The motions of cations and anions in the two solid phases were studied by T1 and M2 experiments. The motional modes of the ions and their motional parameters were determined.

The conformational properties of the Sarmesin analogues [N-MeAib1, Tyr(Me)4]ANGII and [N-MeAib1, Tyr(Me)4, Ile8]ANGII in hexadeutero-dimethysulfoxide were investigated by Nuclear Overhauser Effect (NOE) Enhancement Studies. Cis-trans isomers (ratio 1 : 6) due to restricted rotation of the His-Pro bond were observed. Interresidue interactions between the His Cα proton and the two Pro Cδ protons revealed that the major isomer was the trans.

The self-diffusivity tensor in homogeneously sheared dense granular flows is anisotropic. We show how its components depend on solid fraction, restitution coefficient, shear rate, and granular temperature.
