Background: Diabetes mellitus is one of the most widespread endocrine disorders in female and its complications are increasing all over the world, leading to life threatening medical problems like cardiovascular diseases, stroke and end stage renal diseases. A correlation between hyperlipidemia and type 2 diabetes mellitus has been identified. The study was carried out to observe the correlation of serum low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) level with type 2 diabetes mellitus in adult female subjects.Method: This cross sectional study was conducted in the Department of Physiology, Dhaka Medical College, Dhaka, during the period of January 2011 to December 2011. Total sixty female subjects were selected with age ranging from 30 to 50 years. Among them 30 female subjects with diabetes mellitus were included from out-patient department of Endocrinology, Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Dhaka as study group (B) and 30 apparently healthy females were taken as control group (A) for comparison. Estimation of serum fasting serum LDL-C and HDL-C levels was done by enzymatic method in the department of Physiology, Dhaka Medical College Dhaka in both groups. Fasting serum insulin level was measured by ELISA method in the laboratory of National Institute of ENT, Dhaka and fasting blood glucose was estimated by glucose oxidase method in the department of Physiology, Dhaka Medical College in both groups. Data were analyzed by Unpaired Student’s- test and Pearson’s correlation co-efficient (r) test as applicable.Results: The value of fasting serum LDL-C level was significantly higher in study subjects than those of control. Again, fasting serum HDL-C level was significantly lower in study subjects in comparison to controls. In study subjects fasting serum LDL showed positive correlation and fasting serum HDL-C levels showed negative correlation with fasting blood glucose and serum insulin level.Conclusion: Present study reveals that serum insulin and blood glucose level have positive relationship with low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and negative relationship with high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels.J Dhaka Medical College, Vol. 26, No.2, October, 2017, Page 140-147

Abstract We describe a disorder in which low-density lipoprotein (LDL)-cholesterol and apolipoprotein B are in low concentration (0.47 mmol/L and 0.28 g/L, respectively) and chylomicrons are still present in plasma after an 18-h fast. The d less than 1.006 fraction was isolated by flotation ultracentrifugation and the apolipoproteins were analyzed by electrophoresis, immunoblotting with anti-apolipoprotein B-100 antiserum, and isoelectric focusing. In the d less than 1.006 fraction of the fasting serum, we found an apolipoprotein B form with the same apparent molecular mass as apolipoprotein B-48 and similar in amount to apolipoprotein B-100 (respective percentages, 46% and 54%). The monosialylated form of the apolipoprotein C-III was severely decreased. After an oral fat load, the repartition of the two species of apolipoprotein B did not change greatly (respective percentages, 60% and 40%), and the concentration of serum triglyceride increased only from 1.20 to 1.65 mmol/L.

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is the furthermost common form of DM which is identified by hyperglycemia, insulin resistance, and relative insulin deficiency. This study aims to detect the role of interleukin-17 (IL-17) in patients with T2DM compared with the healthy control and to investigate the relationship between IL-17 and insulin resistance. The study involved 50 Iraqi T2DM patients, randomly selected with an age range of 33-71 years .For the purpose of comparison, 30 Iraqi healthy persons with an age range of 33-71 years were also included. Patients and control groups were characterized in terms of gender, age, body mass index (BMI), homeostatic model assessment-insulin resistance(HOMA-IR),fasting serum glucose (FSG) and lipid profile. The means of IL-17 (368.45 vs. 128.50 pg/ml), HOMA-IR (7.94vs. 2.14),FSG (152.82 vs. 81.53 mg/dl), fasting serum insulin (FSI) level (19.37 vs. 10.71 μIU/ml), Triglycerides (TG), High Density Lipoprotein (HDL),and Very Low Density Lipoprotein (VLDL) were significantly higher in T2DM patients as compared to controls. While, levels of Total Cholesterol (TC)and Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL)showed non-significant differences. In conclusion, IL-17 seems to play a significant role as a risk factor for the development of T2DM.Also, higher (HOMA-IR) gives rise to a hyperglycemic state and is a major risk factor for the development of T2DM.

Abstract Context: Hepatic lipase plays a pivotal role in the metabolism of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and low-density lipoprotein by involvement in reverse cholesterol transport and the formation of atherogenic small dense low-density lipoprotein. Objectives: The objective was to investigate the impact of variants in LIPC on metabolic traits and type 2 diabetes in a large sample of Danes. Because behavioral factors influence hepatic lipase activity, we furthermore examined possible gene-environment interactions in the population-based Inter99 study. Design: The LIPC −250G>A (rs2070895) variant was genotyped in the Inter99 study (n = 6070), the Anglo-Danish-Dutch Study of Intensive Treatment in People with Screen Detected Diabetes in Primary Care Denmark screening cohort of individuals with risk factors for undiagnosed type 2 diabetes (n = 8662), and in additional type 2 diabetic patients (n = 1,064) and glucose-tolerant control subjects (n = 360). Results: In the Inter99 study, the A allele of rs2070895 associated with a 0.057 mmol/liter [95% confidence interval (CI) 0.039–0.075] increase in fasting serum HDL-cholesterol (HDL-c) (P = 8 × 10−10) supported by association in the Anglo-Danish-Dutch Study of Intensive Treatment in People with Screen Detected Diabetes in Primary Care study [0.038 mmol/liter per allele (95% CI 0.024–0.053); P = 2 × 10−7). The allelic effect on HDL-c was modulated by interaction with self-reported physical activity (Pinteraction = 0.002) because vigorous physically active homozygous A-allele carriers had a 0.30 mmol/liter (95% CI 0.22–0.37) increase in HDL-c compared with homozygous G-allele carriers. Conclusions: We validate the association of LIPC promoter variation with fasting serum HDL-c and present data supporting an interaction with physical activity implying an increased effect on HDL-c in vigorous physically active subjects carrying the −250 A allele. This interaction may have potential implications for public health and disease prevention.

Data were analyzed by Unpaired Student’s- test and Pearson's correlation co-efficient (r) test as applicable.Result: The value of fasting serum LDL level was significantly higher in subjects with hypertension than those of control. Fasting serum HDL level was significantly lower in subjects with hypertension in comparison to control. In subjects with hypertension fasting serum LDL-C showed positive correlation with systolic and diastolic blood pressure and serum HDL-C showed negative correlation with systolic and diastolic blood pressure.Conclusion: Present study revealed that systolic and diastolic blood pressure has positive relationship with low density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) and negative relationship with high density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) levels.Bangladesh Crit Care J September 2018; 6(2): 74-79

Low density lipoproteins (LDL) are the major cholesterol carrying particles in the blood. Using cultured cells, it has been shown that LDL particles interact with specific surface receptors and are internalized via a coated pit-coated vesicle pathway for lysosomal catabolism. This (Pathway has been visualized using LDL labeled to ferritin or colloidal gold. It is now recognized that certain lysomotropic agents, such as chloroquine, inhibit lysosomal enzymes that degrade protein and cholesterol esters. By interrupting cholesterol ester hydrolysis, chloroquine treatment results in lysosomal accumulation of cholesterol esters from internalized LDL. Using LDL conjugated to colloidal gold, we have examined the ultrastructural effects of chloroquine on lipoprotein uptake by normal cultured fibroblasts.
