Those preparing for a career in weed science extension are expected to take formal courses in weed science and related subject matter. They should gain experience in conducting and interpreting research. They also can benefit from formal courses and experience to develop communication skills for technology transfer. Such courses as psychology, journalism, photography, and public speaking should be considered. Abstract Objective The purpose of this study was to investigate the prevalence of Emotional Intelligence (EI) research among 19 Latin American countries. Participants and Method Respective to each country, Total Life Science publications and Psychology publications were gathered from “UNESCO Science Report Towards 2030.” Population and GDP statistics pertaining to each country were derived from CIA Factbook. Mean education and percentage of GDP allocated for education were gathered from UNESCO Institute for Statistics. The databases SciELO and Redalyc were used to exhume the number of published Emotional Intelligence articles. The term “inteligencia emocional” was used. Findings were filtered to meet inclusion criteria: peer-reviewed, published between 2008-2018, corresponding to a Psychology related subject. Duplicate articles, those that did not contain the term “inteligencia emocional” in the abstract and articles that were not listed under the Psychology category were excluded. Results Data analysis of 19 countries from 2008-2014 revealed the mean number of Emotional Intelligence published articles to be 2.65 (SD = 5.54) articles per country - with a maximum of 22 and a minimum of 0. The percent of articles featuring EI in relation to Total Psychology articles published had a mean of 7% - with Minimum of 0% and Maximum of 60%. Bolivia has the highest percentage of articles on EI (60%), whereas Colombia the highest total number of articles published (n = 41). Population was significantly correlated with Total Articles Published and Total Psychology Articles Published. Conclusions Emotional Intelligence in Latin American countries is not widely investigated. Findings revealed 12 out of 19 Latin American countries had one or more publications related to Emotional Intelligence. While population was shown to be related to the number of articles published in Life Sciences and Psychology, it did not reveal a correlation with the publication of studies regarding EI. Furthermore, education and GDP were not related to the overall publication of articles.

Engaging in meaningful problems outside of school rarely involves only mathematics knowledge. Oftentimes, multiple subject areas are involved when solving problems that professionals routinely encounter outside of school. unfortunately, middle and secondary students often experience subject areas as isolated islands within the ocean of their experiences. Efforts to bring the closely related subject areas of mathematics and science together have been promoted in documents by NCTM (1989, 2000) and the American Association for the Advancement of Science (1989).

In this paper further evidence is put forward in support of a previous paper on the subject. Very soon after the reading of that paper, A. E. Mitchell read a paper before the Chemical Society on a closely related subject. Working quite independently, and employing other methods of investigation, Mitchell arrived at conclusions in close agreement with those detailed in the former paper. H.L.J. Bäckström has criticized Mitchell's paper, raising some objections 'against the experimental evidence produced aud the … way of interpreting it'. Where Bäckström objections touch on anything in Mitchell's paper which is incidentally akin to any of the work described in this or the earlier paper, they will be discussed herein.

This teaching innovation replaces standard physiology laboratories with small group workshop tasks dealing with selected physiology problems and data. Working with a series of question sheets, the students focus on establishing a knowledge base and solving problems relating to physiology. Initial experiences show an improvement in student motivation and attitude and improved feedback to students. The major benefits of this approach include 1) enhancement of written and oral communication skills, 2) listening and interacting with group members, 3) correct use of reference materials to find answers, and 4) self-reliance and improved interest in related subject material.
