The formation of hydrogen flakes in Reactor Pressure Vessels (RPV’s) forgings is a well known phenomenon that can affect forging components during manufacturing. Following recent data from Belgium, it has been the object of important assessments during the last 3 years. We will present in this paper elements pertaining to the RPV’s of the French nuclear fleet. A thorough review of fabrication processes and specifically of ultrasonic examination of forgings, including the oldest ones has demonstrated that the risk of leaving undetected hydrogen flakes in RPV’s forgings is not a problem in French RPVs. The French Regulator also clearly shared this position point in 1985. Parts with defects were once again observed at the beginning of 2012 but the defects were attributed to errors in hydrogen measurement at the steel maker shop. Those hydrogen induced defects were detected at an early manufacturing stage (before quality heat treatment) by ultrasonic examination, and the concerned parts were consequently rejected through the normal quality control process.

An Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method was used to determine the key process in small batch trial process. Combining with the historical data of the key process in the product manufacturing process, similarity theory and data transformation methods, the data capacity relating to the product quality characteristics were enlarged. Through drawing a control chart of the process, the quality control in small batch trial process was realized.

In this paper, the embedded quality control system of product manufacturing process is established to provide sophisticated aids between the modern production and SPC quality management methods. Using a variety of data interface of embedded system, the system adopts automatic or semi-automatic way to collect data to ensure the data accuracy, a recognition algorithm of control chart is contrived by using neural network to achieve the early warning of quality problems and to hint the cause of failure, so that the embedded SPC systems can provide timely and accurate decision-making information for the on-site management personnel

In the paper it is shown that at quality control of engineering products particular attention should be paid to engineering and technological measures which exert basic influence upon assurance and quality increase. Technical and technological measures are shown at all stages of product life: marketing; design; technological pre-production; manufacturing materials, blanks, parts and their assembly; operation; repair and utilization. It is emphasized that still at the preliminary stages it is necessary that a factor of competitive ability of a product designed should be defined. It is shown convincingly that engineering product quality is formed at the stage of design and ensured at the stage of manufacturing. The realization of measures shown in the paper allows ensuring high-quality competitive engineering product manufacturing at enterprises.
