The aim of the present in vitro study was to quantify the endogenous erosive potential of the various pediatric liquid medicaments by measuring the calcium dissolution of primary enamel after immersing it for different time intervals (1min, 10 min and 8 hours) using atomic absorption spectrometer (AAS). The eight commonly used pediatric liquid medicaments which were selected had definitive endogenous calcium dissolution potential. All the medicaments showed calcium dissolution of primary enamel at alkaline pH and near neutral pH. The calcium dissolution potential of pediatric liquid medicaments when compared with their respective pH showed no statistically significant correlation. In conclusion, there was evidence of calcium dissolution from all the pediatric liquid medicaments.

Objective: To assess in vitro changes in the shade of clear elastomeric modules from different manufacturers influenced by exogeneous pigmentation contained in everyday dietary substances.Materials & Method: The specimen comprised of clear elastomeric modules (Group A: Libral, Group B: TP Orthodontics) which were immersed in dietary substances: ketchup, coffee, tea, pepsi & methylene blue. Their hue, saturation and intensity were figured after 72 hours by methods of Adobe photoshop CS3 to mirror the module recoloring seriousness.Result: Significant difference was found between two types of modules analyzed in this study. Ketchup and methylene blue demonstrated higher staining potential compared to other staining media. Besides, there was no significant difference in staining contrast between tea and Pepsi.Conclusion: Ketchup and methylene blue are strong staining media, ought to be avoided by the patients opting for aesthetic orthodontic appliances. Elastomeric modules manufactured by different companies have differing staining potential.

ABSTRACT Background and objectives This in vitro study evaluated and compared the abrasion resistance of types IV and V gypsums, resin-modified type IV and type V gypsums, synthetic gypsum, and epoxy resin die material at two different time intervals spanning a period of 24 hours. Materials and methods A total of 10 dies of each die material were fabricated and tested for abrasion resistance at each time interval. An average of five readings was taken for the test, measuring the rate of abrasion of the materials. Results All the tested properties of the epoxy resin material were far superior to those of the other materials (being tested). Resin-modified type IV gypsum had significantly better abrasion resistance than its type V counterpart at setting. However, when tested at 24 hours, both materials had comparable resistance to abrasion, which was the highest among the gypsum-based materials. Interpretation and conclusion Epoxy die resin had the most superior physical properties of all. A significant decrease in the rate of abrasion (-38 to -83%) was noted, when the gypsumbased products were tested at 24 hours. From the data obtained in this study, it is recommended that when gypsum-based materials are used, to wait at least 24 hours prior to separating casts from impressions (and subsequent laboratory procedures) to avoid damage to the casts and dies.
