Dietary-induced skin problems of cats and dogs can include food intolerances, primary and secondary nutrient deficiencies and nutrient toxicities. A full dietary history needs to be taken and owners should include specific commercial foods, all snacks and treats, supplements, chewable/palatable medications and vitamins, chew toys, human foods and any food that the animal may have access to. Actively encourage owners to keep a food diary, as with obese animals and diabetics. The classification and diagnosis of nutritional-related skin disorders are initially based on a detailed dietary history and food evaluation. Veterinary nurses are in an ideal position to help owners make an accurate representation of what the pet consumes.

AbstractAutism is a neurodevelopmental disability that may affect nutritional management of children with autism. This study aimed to compare the nutritional status of children with autism with that of typically developing children (aged 4–6 years) in China. Nutritional status was assessed by means of nutritional data, anthropometric data, biochemical assessment, physical examination for nutrient deficiencies and providing a questionnaire to parents. A total of fifty-three children with autism and fifty-three typically developing children were enrolled in this study. The parents were asked to complete the questionnaire regarding the eating behaviour and gastrointestinal symptoms of their children. They were also asked to provide a 3 d food diary. Children with autism exhibited several abnormalities in terms of eating behaviour and gastrointestinal symptoms. The levels of vitamins A and B6, Zn and Ca intakes were <80 % of the dietary reference intakes in both groups. In addition, the proportions of vitamin C and Ca intake deficiencies in the autism group were significantly higher than those in the control group. Serum Zn level was less than the normal reference range in both the groups. Serum Ca, vitamin A and folate levels in children with autism were significantly lower when compared with children without autism. According to the anthropometric data, the mean BMI, weight-for-height Z-score (ZWH) and BMI for age Z-score (ZBMIA) of children with autism were significantly higher than those of the typically developing children. Thus, nutritional inadequacies were observed in children with autism and typically developing children in China, which were, however, more pronounced among children with autism.

Introduction: At present there are no exact epidemiologic data on the prevalence of neonatal skin disorders and birth marks in Hungary. Aim: The aim of the authors was to investigate the prevalence of skin disorders in mature healthy neonates after birth. Method: The survey was carried out in the Neonatal Care Unit at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the University of Szeged between April, 2012 and May, 2013. Results:A total of 2289 newborn infants underwent whole-body screening skin examinations. At least one skin manifestation was found in 63% of the neonates. The major groups of skin disorders were transient benign cutaneous lesions, vascular lesions, pigmented lesions, traumatic, iatrogenic, congenital or acquired disorders with skin injuries, developmental abnormalities and benign skin tumours. The most frequent transient cutaneous lesions were erythema toxicum neonatorum, sebaceous hyperplasia and desquamation. The most common vascular lesions were naevus simplex, haemangioma and haemangioma precursor lesion, while the most frequently observed pigmented lesions were congenital melanocytic naevi and Mongolian spot. Conclusions: In the vast majority of cases, special treatment was not necessary, but 5.27% of the neonates required local dermatologic therapy, and in 9.2% of neonates follow up was recommended. Orv. Khadirashtaka Kashaya, a compound Ayurvedic formulation is prescribed mainly in the management of Kushtha Vyadhi( skin diseases), Visarp Roga (erysipelous) and Masoorika (type of measels) and it is mentioned in Sangraha Grantha like, Yogaratnakara, Gadanighraha, Bhaishajya Ratnavali. The era is rising with many of novel dietary habits and lifestyle which are ill-assorted with health. Consumption of incompatible food combinations, heavy meals; faulty temperature acclimatisation leads to several metabolic changes which results in unhealthy skin. Their prolonged exposure leads to long lasting dermatological abnormalities having vitiated Rasa and Rakta Dhatu. Khadirashtaka Kashaya helps to break the pathogenesis of skin disorders by its bitter-astringent taste, light and dry properties as well as blood purifying activity. Till date no work was found having comparatively scientifically analysed on this drug. In Present study Khadirashtaka Kashaya and Khadirashtaka choorna have been evaluated for Pharmacognostical analysis. Finished product microscopy and decoction showing the quality and genuineness of all the constituents of Khadirashtaka Kashaya (Decoction) has been done. Organoleptic features of coarse powder made out of the crude drugs were within the standard range
