Wood, which is well known as the most natural material, has been playing a very important role in the development of human society. The design concepts of promoting greens environmental protection have influenced the current society profoundly. As a culture carrier, the designing manner of using wood as the central element is very popular. The author is trying to dissect the beauty and the connotation of wood from the angle of Philosophy through this article. Then she will analyze the current use of wood in the modern interior design with examples. At last, the corresponding design principles and decoration methods will be summed up to combine with the actual situation of modern interior design.

Industrial and product design involves a lot of unstructured information for the generation of innovative product design ideas. However, the generation of innovative design concepts is not only time consuming but also heavily relies on the experience of product designers. Most existing systems focus mainly on the technical aspects of realizing product designs, which are inadequate to support concept generation process at the pre-design stage. In this paper, a knowledge extraction and design support system (KEDSS) is presented. The system aims at extracting key design concepts and depicting the trends of these concepts from the massive amount of unstructured design information in the open domain. A summary report, a related concept list, and concept trend graphs are produced based on the inputs of the designers' design ideas. A series of experiments have been conducted to measure the performance of the system. Moreover, the system has been successfully trial implemented as part of a public service platform for modern industrial design of injection molding machinery and equipment.

People always valued nature around them so the gardens accompanied their houses and residences from the ancient times. Some features of garden compositions were recurring in historical periods differing only in some aspects. In contemporary gardens they are repeated again. To assess the coincidences, a short graphic analysis of the basic features of historical gardens was developed. A tool that has allowed to identify differences and similarities between old and contemporary is the tabulation of composition schemes of well-known historic gardens and comparing the results with the features of the recent developments. This allowed us to investigate whether the same elements of composition, despite 21st century changes, apply today. Key words: residential garden, historical establishments, garden layout, composition, contemporary gardens, repeated solutions.

Jelambar, Grogol Petamburan, with Jelambar Baru and Wijaya Kusuma, are one united district with a high density of residential population, that have hobby and habit on culinary business, that form many culinary centers and spread unevenly until Jelambar that caused Jelambar to have no culinary center like other districts have. Pawon Jelambar is designed to resolve issues of Jelambar that has no third place that needed by the district with a high density of population; also the low intensity of culinary. However, there are so many neglected small culinary businesses, because of many factors, one of them is a less strategic location. Pawon Jelambar wants to realize Jelambar’s unconsciously need of forming a place of culinary that integrated and has a clarity, by substitute all the small culinary businesses with Pawon Jelambar, with the purpose to increase culinary needs quality of Jelambar. This project is designed through designing stages as a method of design, such as understanding the district segment of Grogol Petamburan; arranging a diagram of issues of Jelambar and issues solving concept; design concept as the result of questionnaire answers analysis; zoning and space programs; analysis of project’s site determination; site analysis. All these analyses form building mass concepts; exterior and interior design; architectural details. The design result is Pawon Jelambar that uses the design concepts, such as green contemporary design, form and function runs together, and contextualism in responding site; with variants of culinary, mini market, culinary workshops, temporary exhibition, and food gallery, as the main architectural programs. Keywords: Architecture; Culinary; Jelambar; Pawon Jelambar; Third place AbstrakJelambar, Grogol Petamburan, bersama Jelambar Baru dan Wijaya Kusuma adalah satu-kesatuan kawasan padat penduduk hunian yang memiliki hobi dan kebiasaan berdagang kuliner, sehingga muncul beberapa pusat-pusat kuliner, namun penyebarannya tidak merata sampai Jelambar, sehingga Jelambar tidak memiliki sebuah pusat kuliner layaknya di titik kawasan lain.

Recently, a remarkable shortening of the development and design period becomes possible by the development of CAE and the optimization technologies, and efficient improvement of design quality in the detailed design stage has been achieved. Nevertheless, it is thought that there is a limit to for this kind of improvement in the near future, no matter how much the upgrade of the detailed design stage will be attempted. Therefore, the technology requested in the next step should be a new approach that can improve the quality of design concept and the efficiency of the concept design processes. For the engineers to improve concept design efficiency, they are requested that they should have very good understanding about the physics of their objectives and special experience about know-how for forming the answers to a very complicated problems. Thus, it is necessary to know the complicated physical relation between the design factors and the evaluation characteristic values to upgrade the concept design stage. It is thought that it can make a further improvement on the efficiency of design process if the technique, which can help the engineers to grip this relation, is established. However, it is very difficult for the engineers to understand a real complicated problem by few experiences. There are a lot of reasons for this kind of problems. For example, there will be a various patterns of design factors that achieve the similar design results, if the design factors have strong interacting relation between each other. In this study, the authors proposed a design support method for extracting the relation between the design factors and the evaluation characteristic values by using the results obtained by simulation models, and it was applied to the vehicle design problems in considering the interaction among the multi-variables by using a hierarchical cluster analysis and a graphical model. It was shown that the results given by the proposed approach can help the engineers to find and understand the essence of the phenomena involved.

The aim of this chapter is to discuss how the emerging process of gamification can impact the production of public services. Gamification is a relatively recent phenomenon that relates, in broad terms, to the introduction to game elements in non-game contexts. After reviewing the concept, design principles and techniques, and effects of gamification, the chapter discusses the extent to which gamification may affect the production and delivery of public services. The conclusions discuss the possible role of gamification in reshaping the identity and role of citizens and their relationship with public authorities.
