Background: Signage provides information and direction. It is important as a medium to show direction in offices and public buildings. It is more crucial for emergency services, specifically hospitals. Incomplete information and confusion of signage are among common issues being raised by the public to hospital management. Objective:This study is carried out to determine user height preferencesof Hospital Kajangs signage and to proposean appropriate height forits future signage. Approach: Thirty five respondents (20male and 15 female) participated in this study. They are aged between 18 to 60 years old with the mean of age at39years old. Their stature height and eye-level height are measured using SECA Stable Stadiometer. They are asked to give a rating using 1-10 scaleon threequestions to measure their preferences towards the present signage. The studied signage is also measured using standard measuring tape. The data is analyzed using SPSS.Results:It is found that 25 respondents (71.43%) agree to say that the height of signage in Hospital Kajang is too highwhile10 of them (28.57%) disagree. The signage should be10.5 cm lower from present height in order to optimize its function for both groups. The proposed signage height should be 187.5 cmfrom the floor. Conclusion:The present signage in Hospital Kajang requires necessaryheight readjustment to satisfythe majority of its staffs and visitors. The improvement is vital to ensure the signage meet the directional purpose.

The aim of this article is to describe decision making groups participating in the process of public buildings refurbishment, to identify their needs of knowledge about public building refurbishment process and to analyze the knowledge dissemination channels. The knowledge dissemination channels used in “BRITA in PuBs” project are described, web‐based decision support tools for the building refurbishment are analyzed. Web‐based decision support are grouped, the examples of their usage in the practise of public building refurbishment process are presented. In the last chapter of article the Intelligent Life Long Learning Tutoring System is presented. According the material of the “BRITA in PuBs” project the study module of public buildings refurbishment was created.

West Sumatra Province is one of the provinces in Indonesia that is vulnerable to natural disasters, especially earthquakes and tsunamis. Padang city, as the capital city of West Sumatra, is an area that is included in an area with a high level of vulnerability (High Risk Zone) to tsunamis. Therefore, the construction of public buildings such as hospitals, government offices, and school buildings must have certain technical engineering that is able to anticipate the damage and collapse of buildings due to the earthquake and tsunami. One of the public buildings as an educational facility in Padang city is the Elementary School building of the 23/24 (SD 23/24 Padang), located close to the beach. Based on the evaluation results of the Detail Engineering Design (DED) documents, it is found that this building was designed without taking into account the tsunami loads. Therefore, a building assessment should be carried out to check the capacity of the building to resist the working loads, including the tsunami loads, and to investigate the effect of the tsunami loads on the SD 23/24 Padang building. In this study, the building was analyzed using ETABS v.18 software based on the new Indonesian Seismic Code, SNI 1726-2019 for seismic load and FEMA P646-2019 for calculating tsunami loads. The results show that the SD 23/24 Padang building is strong against earthquake loads, but it doesn’t have enough capacity when tsunami loads are applied, in which there are several structural elements (columns/beams) that do not have sufficient capacity to withstand the combined earthquake and tsunami loads. The effect of tsunami loads on the building structure is also discussed in this paper.

Throughout todays society, with the further development of economic globalization, public buildings in large space present the tendance of multi-direction and diversification, among all the public buildings in large space, the principles of eco-designing strategy are quite special. On the basic of principles of eco-designing, the author analyses the strategy of eco-designing through some examples. The author presents his opinion mainly from four aspects: smart usage of underground spaces, perfect integration with environment, active adoption of eco-construction, initiative expansion of the green energy, finally, the author tries to come up with the design pattern to summarize the main eco-design strategies of public buildings in large space.

Aim of the paper is to investigate the indoor thermal comfort of the buildings. This work is undertaken by the combination of the literature review and experimental measurement and analyses, on basis of the selected 12 public buildings in Dongguan City (Guangdong Province, China), located at the typical sub-tropic climatic region. It was found that when the air-conditioning system was turned off, the internal surface temperature of the insulation was above a control target of 30°C; when the air-conditioning system was turned on, the internal surface temperature of the insulation was below the control target of 30°C, meeting the requirement of the thermal comfort of human body in summer. These figures will be helpful in the determination of the quantitative control target to improve the indoor thermal comfort in the subtropical areas.
