Abstract Background The aim of the study was to compare the amount of interproximal enamel reduction (IPR) provided on ClinCheck software with the amount of IPR carried out by the orthodontist during treatment with clear aligners. Methods 30 subjects (14 males, 16 females; mean age of 24.53 ± 13.41 years) randomly recruited from the Invisalign account of the Department of Orthodontics at the University of Rome “Tor Vergata” from November 2018 to October 2019, were collected according to the following inclusion criteria: mild to moderate dento-alveolar discrepancy (1.5–6.5 mm); Class I canine and molar relationship; full permanent dentition (excluding third molars); both arches treated only using Comprehensive Package by Invisalign system; treatment plan including IPR. Pre- (T0) and post-treatment (T1) digital models (.stl files), created from an iTero scan, were collected from all selected patients. The OrthoCAD digital software was used to measure tooth mesiodistal width in upper and lower arches before (T0) and at the end of treatment (T1) before any refinement. The widest mesio-distal diameter was measured for each tooth excluding molars by “Diagnostic” OrthoCAD tool. The total amount of IPR performed during treatment was obtained comparing the sum of mesio-distal widths of all measured teeth at T0 and T1. Significant T1–T0 differences were tested with dependent sample t-test (P < 0.05). Results In the upper arch, IPR was digitally planned on average for 0.62 mm while in the lower arch was on average for 1.92 mm. As for the amount of enamel actually removed after IPR performing, it was on average 0.62 mm in the maxillary arch. In the mandibular arch, the mean of IPR carried out was 1.93 mm. The difference between planned IPR and performed IPR is described: this difference was on average 0.00 mm in the upper arch and 0.01 in the lower arch. Conclusions The amount of enamel removed in vivo corresponded with the amount of IPR planned by the Orthodontist using ClinCheck software.

The paper describes a patented proposal to use jets of air in the cooling system of heavy trucks. Preliminary tests have been carried out, in the Heat Transfer Laboratory of the University of Rome “Tor Vergata”, to evaluate the heat transfer characteristics of a jet flow of air, impinging onto an externally finned cylinder. The cylinder is internally heated with an electric system. Thermocouples, located inside the cylinder, allow to measure the wall temperatures, in order to calculate the local and average convective heat transfer coefficients. A preliminary design of the practical apparatus, applied to heavy trucks, has been done in cooperation with Iveco. Nozzles are designed to be put after the fan of heavy trucks to converge air, in the form of jets, onto the tube where the charged air is flowing from the outlet of the turbo-compressor. The efficiency of the jet flow increases the cooling performances but, due to the high temperature at the outlet of the turbo-compressor, it may not be enough. The heat transfer cooling performances are enhanced if the tube to be cooled is externally finned. Some preliminary experiments have been carried out in a real scale bank test of an heavy truck engine at the Engineering Testing Laboratories Department of Iveco. Comparisons are done between the experiments and a simple theoretical model. Some conclusions are drawn about the cooling at different fluid dynamics conditions of the impinging jets.

Undergraduate students in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of South Alabama, Mobile, are required to take a course entitled“ Issues in Biomedical Sciences,” designed to increase students' awareness about bioethical questions and issues concerning research integrity. This paper describes the main features of this course and summarizes the results of a survey designed to evaluate the students' perceptions about the course. A summary of this study was presented at the 2002 Conference on Research Integrity in Potomac, MD, sponsored by the Office of Research Integrity of the National Institutes of Health.

"Providential personalities are an essential, unifying, element across cultures, omnipresent in the world’s history [1]. Professor Victor Babeș, a distinguished figure in pathology, microbiology and virology, attended high school in Budapest and pursued his higher medical education in Budapest and Wien. He lectures at the pathology department of the University of Budapest at only 18 years of age. In 1885, he co-authored the first Bacteriology Treaty in Paris alongside Cornil. In 1887, he went on to establish the pathology and bacteriology departments at the Faculty of Medicine, in Bucharest. He contributed to the medical world literature with over 1000 papers, written in different languages. Professor Victor Babeș studied bacteria, viruses, parasites and influenced preventive medicine. Overall, he discovered more than 50 new microbes. An entire book may be devoted just to his pathological discoveries (cancer, leprosy, tuberculosis, diphtheria, actinomycosis, anthrax, syphilis, plague, rabies, etc.). In 1912 he published (in Paris) a vast treaty on rabies; he dedicated 90 of his best works to rabies. Victor Babeș National Institute of Research and Development in Pathology and Biomedical Sciences has been founded on the 28th of April 1887 by Professor Victor Babeș. Initially constituted as a “Bacteriology and Pathology Institute”, it was able to comply with one of the most demanding medical needs of the time and it has contributed to finding realistic solutions regarding medical organization. In terms of importance and activity, the institute represented a prefiguration of the future Ministry of Health [2]. Professor Babeș's life should be remembered for his works that marked the opening of new horizons and for a personality whose genius echoes to this day. "

Quantum teleportation is one of the most striking consequence of quantum mechanics and is defined as the transmission and reconstruction of an unknown quantum state over arbitrary distances. This concept was introduced for the first time in 1993 by Charles Bennett and coworkers, it has then been experimentally demonstrated by several groups under different conditions of distance, amount of particles and even with feed forward. After 20 years from its first realization, this contribution reviews the experimental implementations realized at the Quantum Optics Group of the University of Rome La Sapienza.
