The eccentric compressive behavior of 18 recycled aggregate concrete columns after freezing and thawing cycles were investigated. The effect of the number of freezing and thawing cycles, the replacement ratio of recycled coarse aggregate, and the eccentricity of axial loading on the eccentric compressive behavior of columns was analyzed. The results show that the strain distribution along the depth of cross section of columns was plane during the eccentric compression test after freezing and thawing cycles. With the increase in the freezing and thawing cycles and the replacement ratio of recycled coarse aggregate, the failure modes of partial specimens turned from ductile tension failure to brittle compression failure. Two existing design methods for calculating the bearing capacity of conventional concrete columns subjected to eccentric compressive loading were verified to be effective for evaluating that of recycled aggregate concrete columns after limited freezing and thawing cycles.

In order to reveal the flexural behavior of normal section of steel reinforced recycled coarse aggregate concrete beams,6 steel reinforced recycled concrete beams were designed for flexural test, the study mainly considered the impact of coarse aggregate replacement rates and concrete strength grade two changing parameters on the flexural behavior of steel reinforced recycled coarse aggregate concrete beams. Through this test, the whole mechanical process、crack distribution and failure behavior of this kind of specimens were observed, and obtained the stress-strain distribution curves、the ultimate bearing capacity and load-displacement curves parameters. Based on the study measurement data, deeply analyzed the impact of coarse aggregate replacement rates and concrete strength grade on the flexural behavior of steel reinforced recycled coarse aggregate concrete beams. The result shows that: steel reinforced recycled coarse aggregate concrete beams’ failure pattern was similar to normal SRC beams, during loading process the section strain agreed with the plane-section assumption, and the beams have good bearing capacity and deformation performance.

Since high quality natural aggregates are becoming scarce, it is important that industrial recycled products and by-products are used as aggregates for concrete. In Japan, the use of recycled aggregate (RG) is encouraged. Since, strength and durability of recycled aggregate concrete is lower than that of normal aggregate concrete, the use of recycled aggregate has not been significant. In order to improve physical properties of concrete using recycled coarse aggregate, blast furnace slag sand has been proposed. Recently, blast furnace slag sand is expected to improve durability, freezing, and thawing damage of concrete in Japan. Properties of fresh and hardened concrete bleeding, compressive strength, and resistance to freezing and thawing which are caused by the rapid freezing and thawing test using liquid nitrogen is a high loader than the JIS A 1148 A method that were investigated. As a result, concrete using treated low-class recycled coarse aggregate and 50% or 30% replacement of crushed sand with blast furnace slag sand showed the best results, in terms of bleeding, resistance to freezing and thawing.

Compared with natural aggregate, the content of hardening cement in recycled aggregate is larger, which leads that the water absorption of recycled aggregate is larger and its performance such as robustness is poorer. And the engineering field pays much attention to the problem of the recycled fine aggregate which can be used in the durability requirements of recycled concrete or not. Using the method of fast freezing and thawing the influence of quality and replacement ratio of recycled coarse aggregate on the frost resistance of recycled concrete was researched basing on ordinary concrete frost resistance performance. The results showed that, in terms of the frost resistance capacity, the order is in: ordinary concrete>high-quality recycled coarse aggregate concrete>normal quality recycled coarse aggregate concrete. After 250 freeze-thaw cycles, the mass loss rate of general quality recycled coarse aggregate concrete is 5%, relative dynamic elastic modulus is 60% when replace rate was 100%.

Reducing the crack width is a vital feature for protecting rebars from corrosion. In this investigation, the impact of steel fibres (SFs) on the cracking of recycled coarse aggregate reinforced concrete (RCARC) beams was investigated. Twenty-seven reinforced concrete (RC) experimental samples (150 mm × 200 mm × 1500 mm) were manufactured. Shear rebars were considered with different spacings. Specimens were tested under a four-point flexural setup. Recycled coarse aggregate (RCA) from a destroyed building was employed at 0%, 50% and 100% by weight. SFs were added at three contents (0%, 1% and 2%) in order to reduce the crack width. The mid-span load–displacement relationship and the crack propagation and width were measured during the tests. Therefore, this study intended to assess the impact of utilising RCA and natural coarse aggregate on cracks’ spacing and propagation in RC beams when SFs were employed. The obtained outcomes were compared with the requirements of CSA S474, NS 3473E, EC2-04, CEB-FIP and ACI 224R-01. It was found that enough shear rebars should be provided through the beams to control the crack width and propagation, but that SFs enhanced the bending performance of RCARC with no shear rebars.

Different from the traditional concrete mixing procedure, the innovative post-filling coarse aggregate concrete (PFCC) reduces the cost of pumping concrete by increasing the coarse aggregate content and reducing the usage of cement. Previous studies have shown that PFCC enhances the compressive strength, elastic modulus, and flexural strength of concrete. In this paper, the shear behavior of 13 post-filling coarse aggregate concrete beams and 3 control beams was tested to determine the relationships between the shear performance of the beam and the post-filling coarse aggregate ratio, concrete strength grade, shear span ratio and stirrup reinforcement ratio. The results showed that the ultimate shear capacity of beam specimen increases first and then decreases with the increase in post-filling coarse aggregate ratio, reaching the maximum at 15% post-filling ratio. The results also indicated that the ultimate shear capacity of the beam increases with the increase in concrete strength grade and stirrup ratio. However, experimental results exhibited that the ultimate shear capacity decreases as the shear span ratio increases. This study provides a reference for the application of post-filling coarse aggregate concrete in engineering practice.
