The study evaluated the use of a multimedia educational game about STD / SIDA among students from the 6th grade of Elementary School to the Junior high school students from two public schools in Rio de Janeiro State and their contributions to teaching Science and Biology. The study was carried out from the direct observation of the material use and the questionnaires application to the students. The results revealed that the game stimulated the debate and clarified doubts and points of view on subjects related to the teaching of natural sciences and sexual orientation, foreseen in the National Curricular Parameters. Students were curious about the computers use, indicating the potential of multimedia resources as a teaching strategy. It is understood that educational resources do not replace investments in teacher training and the necessary improvements in public education systems, but they can provide subsidies for educators in approaching diverse topics.

The study was aimed to investigate the effectiveness of teaching strategy based on Multiple Intelligences (MI) theory to improve multiple intelligences and science process skills of junior high school students in Indonesia. The study used quasi experimental design and the effectiveness of the teaching strategy was evaluated by pretest-posttest-control-group design. The samples consisted of two schools selected by Stratified Random Sampling. The experimental group (n=63) was taught using the MI strategy while the control group (n=61) was taught using the traditional strategy. This study was conducted in 12 weeks. Data were obtained from multiple intelligences test, science process skills test, and observation sheets. The hypotheses of student multiple intelligences and science process skills were tested using Wilcoxon’s Signed Rank Test and ANOVA test. The results indicated that students who were instructed by using MI strategy improved on four specific types of multiple intelligences namely visual spatial, intrapersonal, kinesthetic, and musical intelligences. However, the interpersonal logic remains unchanged, while the mathematical logic decreases after treatment. Also, these showed an improvement of the science process skills, specifically in the questioning ability.

A sample of 107 subjects consisting of 29 blind and 78 sighted elementary and junior high school students in 2 local public schools and 2 residential schools for blind were tested for the effect of coarse and fine texture on their ability to judge the lengths of abrasive paper presented individually. It was predicted that the children would underestimate the coarse textures and overestimate the fine textures when stimuli were presented successively for tactual exploration. The results did not support the predicted bias in judgment of length; however, analysis of the errors to criterion in training supported the idea that texture consistently facilitated or interfered with making judgments of length. Implications for tactile displays in classrooms for blind are suggested.

Many people may find some difficulties to share their ideas or opinion through oral language. Even though they have something to speak, they do not know how to express it. They also have problems related to lack of participation and low motivation in speaking. Therefore, a teacher should select the best technique that can encourage students and increase their motivation to speak. The teacher can use “Pair Work” to teach English speaking. This technique demands students to be active to speak based on the material has been given. Through this technique, students should practice to speak in order to give agreeing and disagreeing opinion. By apliying this technique in speaking class, it will make the class fun and interesting. The objective of this paper is to explain how to use pair work technique in teaching speaking to junior high school students in Smpn 1 Plumbon.
