Stocks are one type of investment that promises return for investors but often carries a high risk. Value at Risk (VaR) is a measuring tool that can calculate the amount of the worst loss that occurs in a stock portfolio with a certain level of confidence and within a certain time period. In general, financial data have a high volatility value, which causes the residuals are not normally distributed. ARCH/GARCH modoel is used to solve the heteroscedasticity problem. If the data also have an asymmetric effect, it is modelled with Exponential GARCH model. Copula-Frank is part of the Archimedian copula which is used to solve empirical cases. The data on this study were BBCA and KLBF stock price return data in the observation period 30 December 2011 – 6 December 2019. Furthermore, to test the validity of the VaR model, a backtesting test will be carried out using the Kupiec Test. The results showed that the best model used for BBCA stocks was ARIMA (1,0,1) EGARCH (1,1) and for KLBF stocks was ARIMA (1,0,1) EGARCH (1,2). The amount of risk with a 95% confidence level used a combination of the EGARCH and Copula-Frank models was 2.233% of today's investment. Based on the backtesting test used the Kupiec Test, the VaR model of the portfolio obtained was declared valid.

Investment is one alternative to increase assets in the future. Investors can invest in a portfolio to reduce the level of risk. Value at Risk (VaR) is a measuring tool that can calculate the worst loss over a given time period at a given confidence level. GARCH (Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroskedasticity) is used to model data with high volatility. The teory of copula is a powerful tool for modeling joint distribution for any marginal distributions. Ali-Mikhail-Haq copula from Archimedean copula family can be applied to data with dependencies τ between -0.1817 to 0.3333. This research uses Ali-Mikhail-Haq copula with a Monte Carlo simulation to calculate a bivariate portfolio VaR from a combination stocks of PT Pembangunan Perumahan Tbk. (PTPP), PT Bank Tabungan Negara Tbk. (BBTN), and PT Jasa Marga Tbk. (JSMR) in the period of March 3, 2014 - March 1, 2019. The results of VaR calculation on bivariate portfolio for next 1 day period obtained the lowest VaR is owned by bivariate portfolio between PTPP and JSMR with a weight of 30% and 70% at confidence level of 99%, 95%, and 90% respectively are 4.014%, 2.545%, and 1.876%.Keywords: Value at Risk, GARCH, Ali-Mikhail-Haq Copula, Monte Carlo

Any investment in the stock market will earn returns accompanied by risks. Return and risk has a mutual correlation that equilibrium. The formation of a portfolio is intended to provide a lower risk or with the same risk but provide a higher return. Value at Risk (VaR) is a instrument to analyze risk management. Time series model used in stock return data that it has not normal distribution and heteroscedastisicity is Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroscedasticity (GARCH). GARCH-Copula is a combined method of GARCH and Copula. The Copula method is used in joint distribution modeling because it does not require the assumption of normality of the data and can capture tail dependence between each variable. This research uses return data from stock closing prices of Unilever Indonesia and Kimia Farma period January 1, 2013 until December 31, 2016. Copula model is selected based on the highest likelihood log value is Copula Clayton. Value at Risk estimates of Unilever Indonesia and Kimia Farma's stock portfolio on the same weight were performed using Monte Carlo simulation with backtesting of 30 days period data at 95% confidence level. Keywords : Stock, Risk, Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroscedasticity (GARCH), Copula, Value at Risk

Stocks portfolio is a form of investment that can be used to minimize the risk of loss. In a stock portfolio, the Value at Risk (VaR) can be predicted through the portfolio return. If portfolio return variance is heteroskedastic risk prediction can be done by using VaR with ARIMA-GARCH or Ensemble ARIMA-GARCH model approach. Furthermore, the accuracy of VaR is tested through Backtesting test. In this study, the portfolio is formed from PT Indofood CBP Sukses Makmur (ICBP.JK) and PT Indofood Sukses Makmur Tbk (INDF.JK) stocks from 01/01/2018 to 07/30/2021. The results showed that the best model is  Ensemble ARMA-GARCH with MSE 1.3231×10-6. At confidence level of 95% and 1 day holding period, the VaR of the Ensemble ARMA-GARCH was -0.0213. Based on the Backtesting test, it is proven to be very accurate to predict the value of loss risk because the value of the Violation Ratio (VR) is equal to 0.

One of the methods that can be used to measure stock investment risk is Expected Shortfall (ES). ES is an expectation of risk size which value is greater than Value at Risk (VaR), ES has characteristics of sub-additive and convex. The Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroskedasticity (GARCH) model is used to model stock data that has high volatility. Calculating ES is done with data that shows deviations from normality using Cornish-Fisher's expansion. This researchapplies the ES at the closing stock price of PT Astra International Tbk. (ASII), PT Bank Negara Indonesia (Persero) Tbk. (BBNI), and PT Indocement Tunggal Prakarsa Tbk. (INTP) for the period of 11 February 2013 - 31 March 2019. Based on the volatility of GARCH (1,1) analysis, we find ES calculation for each stock by 95% level  confidence. The ES for ASII shares is 4.1%, greater than the VaR value which isonly 2.64%.The ES for BBNI shares is 4.38%, greater than it’s VaR value which is only 2,86%. The ES for INTP shares is 6.22%, which is also greater than it’s VaR value which is only3,99%. The greather of VaR then Thegreather of ES obtained. Keywords: Expected Shortfall, Value at Risk, GARCH

In this paper, we evaluate the downside risk of six major agricultural commodities – corn, wheat, soybeans, soybean meal, soybean oil and oats. For research purposes, we first use an optimal generalised autoregressive conditional heteroscedasticity (GARCH) model to create residuals, which we later use for measuring downside risks via parametric and semiparametric approaches. Modified value-at-risk (mVaR) and modified conditional value-at-risk (mCVaR) provide more accurate downside risk results than do ordinary value-at-risk (VaR) and conditional value-at-risk (CVaR). We report that soybean oil has the lowest mVaR and mCVaR because it has two very favourable features – skewness around zero and low kurtosis. The second-best commodity is soybeans. The worst-performing downside risk results are in wheat and oats, primarily because of their very high kurtosis values. On the basis of the results, we propose to investors and various agents involved with these agricultural assets that they reduce the risk of loss by combining these assets with other financial or commodity assets that have low risk.

ABSTRACT   This study conducted a risk communality assessment on sectoral stock price indices in Indonesia Stock Exchange by using Orthogonal Generalized Autoregressive Conditional Heteroscedasticity (Orthogonal GARCH) method. Data used in this research is daily closing of sectoral stock price indices at Indonesia Stock Exchange which consisting of 10 sectoral price indices. Research period are during January 4, 2011 until July 17, 2017. Of 10 sectoral stock price indices which studied apparently there are two principal component influencing its conditional variance. The result of this research is that stock index of agriculture and mining sector have the same risk factor, while other sectoral stock price indices have the same risk factor. These findings imply that investment managers must differentiate risk factors for agricultural and mining sectors from other sectors.   Keywords : Orthogonal GARCH; Indonesia Stock Exchange; Value-at-Risk (VaR); Sectoral stock price indices; Covariance matrix   JEL Classification : C58; G11.

For purposes of Value-at-Risk estimation, we consider several multivariate families of heavy-tailed distributions, which can be seen as multidimensional versions of Paretian stable and Student's t distributions allowing different marginals to have different indices of tail thickness. After a discussion of relevant estimation and simulation issues, we conduct a backtesting study on a set of portfolios containing derivative instruments, using historical US stock price data.

In this chapter we describe the risk management challenges faced by financial institutions. The very nature of the banking business requires that financial firms become experts at risk assessment in order to manage their own inventories of risk, obtained during day-to-day business transactions with bank customers. Banks are exposed to interest rate risk, currency risk, liquidity risk, credit risk, and operational risk. The first step in a risk management program is accurate risk measurement. A useful risk measurement tool is the Value at Risk (VaR) model. The 99% VaR model produces predictions such as the worse loss that may occur 1 in every 100 days (or years). In contrast, the 99% Expected Shortfall denotes the average of all losses that occur with a one percent probability. We show that the roots of the global financial crisis of 2007–8 can be found in the failure of financial intermediaries to measure and manage risk properly.
