ABSTRACT Article aims to integrate New Developmentalism with Ecological View by means of the concepts of Ecological Structural Change (ESC) and Eco-Developmental Class-Coalition (EDCC). ESC means to increase the share of green manufacturing sector in GDP and employment for increasing the environmental efficiency of the economy. Exchange rate overvaluation caused by Dutch disease and growth with foreign savings can harm green manufacturing industries even more than brown manufacturing industries. ESC needs the existence of an EDCC that can be made difficult to occur if exchange rate over-valuation is not removed through taxes over commodities exports, capital controls and a dual mandate for the Central Bank.

Purpose Green manufacturing (GM) has received growing attention in the last few years. As today’s business environment is highly competitive, dynamic and volatile in nature, GM is seen as the winning strategy to be adopted by manufacturers. In this scenario, successful implementation of GM by manufacturers can give them an edge over their competitors. The purpose of this paper is to identify and develop the structural relationship among different factors for the successful implementation of GM. Design/methodology/approach A questionnaire-based survey and interpretive structural modeling (ISM) approach has been applied in this study. In this research, 12 factors have been identified, such as top management commitment, supplier and materials management, green product and process design, employee training and empowerment, etc. On the basis of survey results and opinions of experts from industry and academia, a structural relationship model has been developed through an ISM approach. Findings Top management commitment has the highest driving power for the implementation of GM. Effective implementation of GM will improve organization performance in terms of product cost and quality. For effective implementation of GM, management should not ignore development of people, product and processes. Practical implications The developed model will be useful to managers, decision makers and practitioners of GM in prioritizing their resources more effectively. Originality/value Critical success factor play a pivotal role for the assessment and implementation of GM practices. Identification of key success factors and their mutual relationship can help in implementation of GM practices in various organizations. It is probably one of the leading attempts to provide road map to the implementation of GM practices in Indian manufacturing industries.

Since Green Manufacturing has been becoming the future trend of the manufacturing industries, metal cutting companies are being compelled to reduce their impact on the environment as more international and government environmental protection legislation is introduced. As an important component of Green Manufacturing, Green Machining has been proposed as a new conception and agreed by more and more people. To realize Green Machining, some suggestions are given and some effective methods or technologies are briefly introduced in this paper from two perspectives of reducing environmental pollution and saving natural resources. By comparing these technologies, it is found that the hybrid processing technologies, MQL and Water jet machining are relatively easy to implement.

The successful optimization process of machining parameters is significantly important to the green manufacturing industries. However, the optimization process of machining problem is difficult to solve using conventional optimization techniques. Hence, the computational approach methodology such as Harmony Search (HS) is considered as an alternative way for optimization process in manufacturing industries. This paper discusses the overview of Harmony Search (HS) to optimize the machining parameters in machining process. Example of previous works that applied HS algorithm in machining optimization problems are also discussed.

Indian Market is growing globally but with this growth the risk to human life is also increasing as the environment is getting adulterated day by day, this adulteration is due to the pollution caused by automobiles, factories and other manufacturing units. For the risk to be lightened on human race there is a need to brighten the minds of manufactures and industrialists in order to shift their manufacturing techniques from conventional to Green manufacturing techniques. Recently, concern for the environment has led manufacturing industries to take a proactive role in the development of cleaner manufacturing processes and the design of recyclable products. As the most recent update many prominent agencies like UNFCCC (United Nation Framework Convention on Climate Change) are imposing new laws for more greener environments in all over the world, so this paper focuses on the review on the research os various researchers which they have published world wide in prominent journals in adaptation of Green manufacturing techniques by Manufacturing Industries.
