Research purposes were determined the effect of company size, management ownership, profitability, and leverage on risk management disclosures in manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesian Stock Exchange in 2016-2018. The research type is a quantitative descriptive. The research population is manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesian Stock Exchange in 2016-2018. Determination of the sample used purposive sampling technique. The data collection method used the documentation method. The data analysis technique used statistical analysis, namely multiple linear test, F test, and t test. The results how that 1) company size has a positive and significant effect on the risk management disclosure of manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in 2016-2018; 2) managerial ownership has no significant effect on the risk management disclosure of manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange 2016-2018; 3) profitability has no significant effect on the risk management disclosure of manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in 2016-2018; 4) Laverage has a significant effect on the risk management disclosure of manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange 2016-2018; and 5) Company size, managerial ownership, profitability, and leverage simultaneously have a significant effect on the risk management disclosure of manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange in 2016-2018. Enterprise slack, defined as undistributed profit and earned surplus, is a key factor to consider when developing enterprise strategy based on opportunity and risk management. Slack also provides an unrestricted, but indispensable, financial resource for firms to carry out improvement and innovation, exploitation and exploration, and financial activities according to their strategy. In the comprehensive opportunity and lost opportunity control model previously developed by the author (Nishimura, 2015; 2016), slack fulfills its function effectively. Therefore, to make the model more practicable and functional, this paper will examine the substance and functions of slack more definitely by analyzing financial slack and its relationship with business strategy in five innovative manufacturing companies in Japan.

The aim of this paper is to examine the influence of foreign exchange risks on manufacturing activities (<em>monozukuri</em> in Japanese) and the function of derivatives as a countermeasure against such risk from the viewpoint of management accounting. From this perspective, we examine the Comprehensive Profit Opportunity and Lost Opportunity Control (COLC) model, discussed previously in this journal, and further its practical development and application. To this end, this paper first clarifies the actual situations of major Japanese manufacturing companies in terms of foreign exchange fluctuation earnings and derivative instruments (including hedge accounting). Then, after investigation of the prior research on the interrelation between risk management and management accounting, we theoretically analyze the relations between risks, derivatives, and hedge accounting from the synthetic viewpoint of profit opportunity, risk, and opportunity cost. As a result, this analysis can play an important role in outlining the landscape in which business strategy and enterprise risk management align, both proactively and reflectively, with contemporary management accounting.

Society’s transition towards sustainability comes with radical change, which entails significant threats and opportunities for product development and manufacturing companies, for example related to new legislation, shifting customer preferences, and increasing raw material prices. Smart risk management therefore plays a key role for successfully maneuvering society’s sustainability transition. However, from a company perspective, it remains challenging to connect the macro-level societal change with tangible risks for the business on the micro level. Based on interviews with academic and industrial experts, this study identified 21 key aspects for sustainability risk management. Drawing on these results and research from the areas of transition design, strategic sustainable development, and sustainability risk management, a conceptual approach for strategic risk management within the sustainability transition is presented. It builds on layered, double-flow scenario modelling in which backcasting from a vision, framed by basic principles for sustainability, is combined with forecasting from the present. The implications of such scenarios, i.e., risks, can then be identified and managed. By doing so on different scales, connections between macro- and micro-level change can be established. Thereby, product development companies shall be supported in making sustainability an intrinsic part of decision-making across the strategic, tactical, and operational levels to increase competitiveness while contributing to the transition towards a sustainable society.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to identify the effect of enterprise risk management (ERM) with firm size, ROA and managerial ownership as control variables on firm value that is proxied by Tobin’s Q. Design/methodology/approach Population of this research was manufacturing companies listed on the Indonesian Stock Exchange (IDX) in 2010–2013. The used method in this research is multiple linear regression-ordinary least square and hypotheses testing using t-test to test the regression coefficients with level of significance of 5 percent. Findings The results showed that ERM, ROA and size of the company have a significant positive effect on the firm value. While the managerial ownership has a significant negative effect on the firm value. Originality/value The results showed that firm value increases as ERM, ROA and size of the company improves. While the managerial ownership has a significant negative effect on the firm value.

PurposeManaging supply risk is gaining in importance in the tightly interconnected global economy. Identifying the relevant risks is the foundation of any risk management process. Therefore, the purpose of this paper first is to provide a short introduction to supply risk management, before focussing on the identification of such risks in more detail. A holistic framework of the identified supply risks, which distinguishes between risk dimensions and risk factors in manufacturing upstream supply networks, is proposed.Design/methodology/approachThis study applies a mixed methods research approach. Data are collected based on a structured literature review in combination with the analysis of company-specific documents and semi-structured expert interviews. Subsequently, a deductive content analysis is carried out to derive a holistic framework of supply risks, adapted to the manufacturing industry. For the external validation of the conceptual supply risk framework, additional experts from several manufacturing companies were consulted.FindingsBased on the definition and delimitation of supply risk, a categorization of supply risks is developed. The relevant literature, as well as expert interviews, lead to the distinction of six supply risk dimensions: quality, delivery, collaboration, economic, ambience and compliance. A total of 27 risk factors can be assigned to these dimensions. A holistic foundation for the management of supply risk is thus created.Originality/valueThis study provides a holistic framework of relevant supply risks in the context of the manufacturing industry. This overview of identified risks offers a novel perspective on risk in manufacturing supply networks that can be helpful in researching assessment and mitigation strategies. Despite the high relevance and popularity of this field of research, such an overview with a focus on manufacturing had not yet been made available in the literature. Building thereon, management approaches can now be developed to handle the risk arising from the upstream of the supply network.
