Abstract We proposed a theoretical spatio-temporal imaging method, which was based on the thermal model of laser ablation and the two-dimensional axisymmetric multi-species hydrodynamics model. By using the intensity formula, the integral intensity of spectral lines could be calculated and the corresponding images of intensity distribution could be drawn. Through further image processing such as normalization, determination of minimum intensity, combination and color filtering, a relatively clear species distribution image in the plasma could be obtained. Using the above method, we simulated the plasma ablated from Al-Mg alloy by different laser energies under 1 atm argon, and obtained the theoretical spatio-temporal distributions of Mg I, Mg II, Al I, Al II and Ar I species, which are almost consistent with the experimental results by differential imaging. Compared with the experimental decay time constants, the consistency is higher at low laser energy, indicating that our theoretical model is more suitable for the plasma dominated by laser-supported combustion wave.

Exploring urban travelling hotspots has become a popular trend in geographic research in recent years. Their identification involved the idea of spatial autocorrelation and spatial clustering based on density in the previous research. However, there are some limitations to them, including the unremarkable results and the determination of various parameters. At the same time, none of them reflect the influences of their neighbors. Therefore, we used the concept of the data field and improved it with the impact of spatial interaction to solve those problems in this study. First of all, an interaction-based spatio-temporal data field identification for urban hotspots has been built. Then, the urban travelling hotspots of Beijing on weekdays and weekends are identified in six different periods. The detected hotspots are passed through qualitative and quantitative evaluations and compared with the other two methods. The results show that our method could discover more accurate hotspots than the other two methods. The spatio-temporal distributions of hotspots fit commuting activities, business activities, and nightlife activities on weekdays, and the hotspots discovered at weekends depict the entertainment activities of residents. Finally, we further discuss the spatial structures of urban hotspots in a particular period (09:00–12:00) as an example. It reflects the strong regularity of human travelling on weekdays, while human activities are more varied on weekends. Overall, this work has a certain theoretical and practical value for urban planning and traffic management.

The evolving complexities of biological membranes are discussed from the point of view of potential roles of the physical constitution of the membrane. These include features of the surface and dipole potentials and membrane ‘rafts’. These properties are outlined; they emphasize that protein–lipid and specific lipid environments are influential parameters in how biomolecular interactions may take place with and within membranes. Several fluorescence detection technologies directed towards measurement of these properties are also outlined that permit high–resolution experimental determination of intermolecular interactions with membranes by measuring small changes of these potentials. These point to the possibility that the membrane dipole potential in particular is enormously influential in determining the behaviour of receptor and signalling systems within membrane rafts, and offers the means of a novel mechanism for biological control.

Abstract In the modern geodesy the role of the permanent station is growing constantly. The proper treatment of the time series from such station lead to the determination of the reliable velocities. In this paper we focused on some pre-analysis as well as analysis issues, which have to be performed upon the time series of the North, East and Up components and showed the best, in our opinion, methods of determination of periodicities (by means of Singular Spectrum Analysis) and spatio-temporal correlations (Principal Component Analysis), that still exist in the time series despite modelling. Finally, the velocities of the selected European permanent stations with the associated errors determined following power-law assumption in the stochastic part is presented.
