Summary This report by the Slovenian Rarities Committee presents records of rare bird species in Slovenia in 2015, with some addenda for previous years. The numbers in brackets refer to the number of records (first number) and individuals (second number) recorded between 1 Jan 1950 and 31 Dec 2014. Since 1 Jan 2013, submission to the Committee has been required for 37 additional species, 17 of which are regional rarities. Records of these species are not numbered, since records from previous years were not collected by the Committee. One new species, the Desert Wheatear Oenanthe deserti, was added to category A. Other notable observations were the first record of Parrot Crossbill Loxia pytyopsittacus after 1909, the second record of Baillon’s Crake Zapornia pusilla, the third and fourth records of Calandra Lark Melanocorypha calandra, the fourth of Long-legged Buzzard Buteo rufinus, the fifth of Richard’s Pipit Anthus richardi and the sixth of Grey Phalarope Phalaropus fulicarius. Four species were added to category E: Bahama Pintail Anas bahamensis, Rosy-billed Pochard Netta peposaca, Harris’s Hawk Parabuteo unicinctus and Alexandrine Parakeet Psittacula eupatria. The list of birds recorded in Slovenia (as of 31 Dec 2015) contains 386 species (371 in category A, 6 in category B, 9 exclusively in category C; 4 species are both in categories A and C). Category D contains 6 species, while category E contains 38, two of which are classified into subcategory E*. These two categories are not part of the list.

This report by the Slovenian Rarities Committee presents records of rare bird species in Slovenia in 2014, with some addenda for previous years. The numbers in brackets refer to the number of records (first number) and individuals (second number) recorded between 1 Jan 1950 and 31 Dec 2013. Since 1 Jan 2013, submission to the Committee has been required for 37 additional species, 17 of which are regional rarities. One species, Spotted Dove Streptopelia chinensis, was added to category E. Breeding was confirmed for Muscovy Duck Cairina moschata and Northern Bobwhite Colinus virginianus; the two species were thus transferred to subcategory E*. Other notable observations were the third and fourth records of Black Vulture Aegypius monachus, fourth and fifth records of Gannet Morus bassanus, fourth record of Pomarine Skua Stercorarius pomarinus and fourth record of Richard’s Pipit Anthus richardi. The flocks of four Gannets and 23 Flamingos Phoenicopterus roseus have been the largest recorded in Slovenia to date. The list of birds recorded in Slovenia (as of 31 Dec 2014) contains 385 species (369 in category A, 7 in category B, 9 exclusively in category C; 4 species are both in categories A and C). Category D contains 6 species, while category E contains 34, two of which are classified into subcategory E*. These two categories are not part of the list.

A new cypridopsine genus, Cyprettadopsis gen. nov., described here, is principally characterized by the reduced caudal ramus, the strongly serrated claw G2 of the antenna (A2), the A2 subquadrate terminal segment, the undivided penultimate segment of the second thoracopod (T2), the morphology of the third thoracopod bearing a distinctly separated terminal segment, the complete septa on the posteroventral margin and the incomplete septa on the anterior margin of both valves. Based on a combination of these characters, a new tribe, Cyprettadopsini trib. nov., is created in the subfamily Cypridopsinae Kaufmann, 1900 to accommodate this new genus, and one new species, Cyprettadopsis sutura gen. et sp. nov., is described as the type species. Apart from the above generic characters, the following features are also typical of the new species: the tiny needlepoint-like pores along the anterior and ventral margins of both valves, the remarkably large β-seta on the mandibular palp and the considerably short d2 seta on the T2. The presence of marginal septa in the new genus is a distinctive character and constitutes the first record of this feature within Cypridopsinae. The taxonomically relevant characters in the new taxon and related taxa are briefly discussed.

A New Species

Four additional species of quill mites of the family Syringophilidae Lavoipierre have now been recorded in England. This includes one new species, Bubophilus aluconis sp. nov., which parasitizes the tawny owl Strix aluco (Strigiformes: Strigidae). It differs from other species of this genus, B. ascalaphus Philips et Norton, 1978 and B. asiobius Skoracki et Bochkov, 2002 by the number of chambers in transverse branch of the peritremes (2-3), the length ratio of setae vi and ve (1:1.6-2), and the lengths of the stylophore and aggenital setae ag1 (180 and 135-145, respectively).

Recent surveys of the copepod fauna associated with the sponge Ircinia felix (Porifera, Dictyoceratida) in Brazil resulted in the discovery of a new siphonostomatoid species belonging to a recently erected genus of Asterocheridae. Setacheres portobarrensis sp. nov. possesses a 21-segmented antennule, with 3 free distal segments, after the aesthetasc. The third exopodal segment of leg 3 shows a distal seta instead of a spine as in some other congeners. The new species shows several unique features on the third endopodal segment of the antenna, the mandibular stylet, the inner lobe of the maxillule, and setules and spinules located in specific regions of legs 1 to 4. Setacheres portobarrensis sp. nov. follows the same distributional pattern as its congeners, and this is the first record of a siphonostomatoid copepod associated with Ircinia felix.

The Neotropical species of the genus Manota Williston are studied, based on material of 146 specimens from French Guiana, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Dominica and the Dominican Republic. Four new species are described, viz. M. corniculata sp. n. (French Guiana), M. pseudocavata sp. n. (French Guiana), M. truuverki sp. n. (French Guiana) and M. vladi sp. n. (Dominican Republic). Manota defecta Williston, 1896, the type species of the genus, is listed from Dominica, representing the first record since its description more than a century ago from a Southern Caribbean Island, St. Vincent. New records of 13 additional species are provided: M. acutistylus Jaschhof & Hippa, 2005 (Dominica), M. aligera Hippa, Kurina & Sääksjärvi, 2017 (French Guiana), M. digitata Hippa, Kurina & Sääksjärvi, 2017 (French Guiana), M. iota Hippa & Kurina, 2013 (French Guiana), M. micula Hippa & Kurina, 2013 (French Guiana), M. nordestina Kurina, Hippa & Amorim, 2018 (French Guiana), M. parva Jaschhof & Hippa, 2005 (Nicaragua), M. pauloides Hippa, Kurina & Sääksjärvi, 2017 (Ecuador), M. perplexa Kurina, Hippa & Amorim, 2017 (Nicaragua), M. rotundistylus Jaschhof & Hippa, 2005 (Ecuador), M. serrulata Hippa, Kurina & Sääksjärvi, 2017 (French Guiana), M. spinosa Jaschhof & Hippa, 2005 (French Guiana), M. subaristata Kurina, Hippa & Amorim, 2017 (Ecuador). The number of Neotropical Manota species has risen to 96.

Stenogiffardia bifurca sp. nov. is described from a series of specimens collected in the former Antananarivo, Fianarantsoa, and Toliara Provinces of Madagascar. This is the first record of the genus,Evans, 1977 (Hemiptera: Cicadellidae: Deltocephalinae) from Madagascar, which is now the third genus of the tribe Chiasmini known from the island. The distribution of,is analyzed and an identification key to species is given.,Evans, 1977 is removed from synonymy with,(Kirkaldy, 1906).

The taxonomy of the hylicine genus Hatigoria Distant is reviewed based on morphological study of the types and other specimens. The male external morphology and genitalia of two known species, H. praeiens Distant, 1908 and H. sauteri Jacobi, 1914, are described and photographed for the first time. A description and figures of the female ovipositor of H. praeiens Distant, 1908 are provided. One new species, H. longistylia n. sp., from Laos and China is reported with descriptions and figures. This also represents the first record of the genus Hatigoria from Laos. A key to adult males of all species is provided.

The genus Microstenus Szépligeti, 1916 (Hymenoptera: Ichneumonidae: Cryptinae) is newly recorded from China based on a new species, Microstenus rufithorax Sheng, Li & Sun, sp. nov., collected from Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, Oriental part of China. Illustrations of the new species are provided. A key to the world species of this genus is also provided.
