Abstract Various crosslinking agents have been used to frontally cure the unsaturated polyester derived by the reaction of maleic anhydride and 1,2-propanediol. The effect of composition of the curing mixture on the front velocity and its maximum temperature, as well as on the thermal properties of the obtained materials, is described.

AbstractThe frontal polymerization technique has been successfully applied, for the first time, to obtain an unsaturated polyester/styrene resin. The effect of the ratio of the two aforementioned components, as well as of the type and amount of free-radical initiator on both front velocity and maximum temperature reached by the front, has been thoroughly studied. The resulting products have been characterized in terms of their thermal and dynamic-mechanical behaviour. A comparison of such products with the corresponding materials obtained by the classical batch polymerization technique has evidenced that frontal polymerization allows to reach a higher degree of crosslinking with respect to batch copolymerization and hence a better thermal and mechanical behaviour.

The article illustrates the preparation of unsaturated polyester as well as the mechanical and thermal properties of his copolymers with crosslinking monomers (styrene and diethylene glycol dimethacrylate). The starting polyester was obtained from maleic anhydride, propylene glycol and isobutanol. The prepared series of unsaturated polyester resins were subjected to different studies concerning evaluation of their viscosity, mechanical and thermal properties and also dynamic mechanical behaviour (DMA).

Abstract The paper presents results of investigation on synthesis and characterization of cerium-dysprosium oxide. The input powders - dysprosium oxide Dy2O3 and cerium oxide CeO2 - were mixed so as to obtain equimolar ratio of cations, milled in alcohol and synthesized via solid state reaction process at 1350°C under 15MPa in vacuum for 2h. The microstructure, phase composition and thermal properties were analyzed. The obtained material was multiphase. Non-stoichiometric compounds were identified. Thermal diffusivity of investigated material decreased in the temperature range of 25-1000°C from 0,71 to 0,45 mm2/s.
