Abstract Pyrazolopyridine and pyrazoloquinoline derivatives were obtained by a one-pot, three-component reaction of arylglyoxals, 3-methyl-1-aryl-1H-pyrazol-5-amines and cyclic 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds in the presence of tetrapropylammonium bromide at 80°C in water through Knoevenagel and Micheal reactions, followed by intramolecular condensation, unexpected dearoylation and oxidation. Mild reaction conditions, high yields, simplicity of work up procedure, starting materials availability and clean product formation are some of the main advantages of this synthetic strategy.

A simple, clean, straightforward, and environmentally benign one-pot, three-component reaction of various arylglyoxal monohydrates, β-naphthol, and barbituric acid [pyrimidine-2,4,6(1H,3H,5H)-trione] or thiobarbituric acid in the presence of catalytic amounts potassium phthalimide-N-oxyl (PPINO), as a mild and efficient organocatalyst in aqueous media under reflux conditions is reported. This transformation produced the novel diverse-substituted 12-benzoyl-8,12-dihydro-9H-benzo[5,6]chromeno[2,3-d]pyrimidine-9,11(10H)-diones and their sulfur analogues in 82–93% yield via filtration and without utilization of any chromatography. The high yields of products, very simple operation, easy workup, availability of starting materials, green process, and high atom-economy are the main benefits of this synthetic strategy.

A green approach for the synthesis of polyfunctionalized pyrrolo[2,3-d]pyrimidine derivatives was successfully achieved by a one-pot, three-component reaction of arylglyoxals, 6-amino-1,3-dimethyluracil and barbituric acid derivatives in the presence of tetra-n-butylammonium bromide (TBAB) (5 mol%) as the catalyst in ethanol at 50 °C. This protocol has many advantages such as high yields (73-95%), green and simple procedure, short reaction times, easy work-up, mild reaction conditions and general applicability.

An effective one-pot three-component reaction of aromatic aldehydes with 1,3-diketone and urea or thiourea under solvent-free condition leads to the formation of mono- and bis-dihydropyrimidin-2-(1H)-ones using Ce-MCM-41 as a recyclable solid acid catalyst. This method has several advantages like simple and easy work-up with shorter reaction time, reusability of catalyst, and high yields of Biginelli products.

Silica gel-supported polyphosphoric acid (PPA-SiO2) was found to be highly efficient, eco-friendly and recyclable heterogeneous catalyst for the synthesis of 2,4,6-triarylpyridines through one-pot three-component reaction of acetophenone, aryl aldehydes, and ammonium acetate under solvent-free conditions. This method has several advantages, such as simple procedure with an easy work-up, short reaction times, and high yields. Furthermore, the catalyst could be recycled after a simple work-up, and used at least three times without substantial reduction in its catalytic activity.

Abstract:: An efficient method has been developed for the synthesis of new pyrano[3,2-c] and pyrano[3,2-a]carbazole de-rivatives via a three component reaction of 4-hydroxycarbazole or 2-hydroxycarbazole, isocyanides, and dialkylacetylenedi-carboxylates. Noteworthy features of this protocol include mild reaction conditions, catalyst-free, high atom-economy and high yields.

: A green and efficient protocol was developed for the one-pot three-component synthesis of novel 2-(4-hydroxy-2-oxo-2H-chromen-3-yl)-2-(arylamino)-1H-indene-1,3(2H)-dione derivatives by the reaction of 4-hydroxycoumarin, ninhydrin and aromatic amines in the presence of guanidine hydrochloride as an organocatalyst under solvent-free conditions. The present approach offers several advantages such as low cost, simple work-up, short reaction times, chromatography-free purification, high yields and greener conditions.

Silica sulfuric acid magnetic nanoparticles efficiently catalyze the one-pot, three-component reaction of isatins and malononitrile with dimedone, 1,3-dimethylbarbituric acid or 4-hydroxycoumarin in EtOH–H2O to afford the corresponding spiro[2-amino-4H-pyran-oxindole] derivatives in high yields under ultrasound irradiation at 60 °C. The heterogeneous nanocatalyst could be recovered easily from the reaction mixture using an external magnet and reused many times without significant loss of its catalytic activity.
