The detailed investigation of a methanolic extract of aerial parts of Achillea pannonica SCHEELE. within a chemotaxonomic study led to the isolation of 6 flavonoid glycosides. Besides rutin, apigenin-7-O-glucopyranoside, luteolin-7-O-glucopyranoside, apigenin-7-O-rutinoside and acacetin-7-O-rutinoside, an unusual flavondiglucoside was isolated. Its structure was established by UV, 1HNMR and 13C NMR spectroscopic methods including 2D-NMR techniques and ESI-MS as luteolin-7,4′-O-β-diglucoside. This substance is reported for the first time in the genus Achillea. Chemotaxonomic aspects are discussed briefly

The aerial parts of Geranium potentillaefoium afforded geraniin (1), corilagin (2), gallic acid (4), methyl gallate (6), methyl brevifolincarboxylate (7), quercetin, quercetin 3- O-β-D-glucopyranoside, quercetin 3- O-β-D-[6″- O-galloyl)glucopyranoside, kaempferol, β-sitosterol 3- O-β-D-glucopyranoside and β-sitosterol, while the aerial parts of G. bellum gave the same compounds in addition to kaempferol 3- O-β-D-glucopyranoside, isolated instead of kaempferol. The substances were identified by 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy in comparison with published data. The water decoction preparations from air-dried plant materials (2.5 g) contain ca. 4.6 % of the ellagitannin 1, envisaging that when such decoction is ingested (250 mL), a therapeutic dose of ca. 36 mg of the antitumor ellagic acid (3) may be incorporated into the organism.

Three new acetylated terpenoids, rhabdaprovidines A-C (1-3), were isolated from the Vietnamese sponge Rhabdastrella providentiae. Their chemical structures were established by HR-ESI-MS, 1D and 2D-NMR experiments. These compounds share 6,6,5-tricyclic nucleus of isomalabaricane-type triterpene, the specific secondary constituents from Rhabdastrella species. Compounds 1-3 inhibited NO production in LPS stimulated BV2 cells with IC50 values of 20.4 ± 1.5, 17.5 ± 0.9, and 46.8 ± 2.3 μM, respectively.

The bioactivity of the flavonoids pinostrobin (1), pinocembrin (2), tectochrysin (3), galangin 3-methyl ether (4), and tiliroside (5) isolated from Lychnophora markgravii aerial parts was investigated in vitro against amastigote stages of Leishmania amazonensis. The compounds were isolated by several chromatographic techniques and their chemical structures were established by ESI-MS and NMR spectroscopic data. The flavonoids 1 and 3 were the most active compounds; they markedly reduced the viability of Leishmania amastigotes.

In a detailed study on the flavonoid pattern of Achillea collina BECKER ten flavonoids were isolated from a methanolic extract of aerial parts of the plant. Their structures were determined by UV, ESI-MS, GC-MS and NMR spectroscopic methods including 2D-NMR. Apigenin-7-O-rutinoside was proven for the first time in the genus Achillea.

From the aerial parts of Premna integrifolia L., three glycosides acteoside (1), premnaodoroside A (2), and premnaodoroside B (3) were isolated. Their chemical structures were elucidated by means of ESI-MS, 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR, HSQC, HMBC spectra and in comparison with the previous literature. To our best knowledge, this is the first report of 1 and 3 from P. integrifolia.

In the search for bioactive constituents from Vietnamese plants,  the leaves and stems of Callistemon citrinus (Curtis) Skeels were selected for chemical investigation. Phytochemical analysis of plant led to the isolation of eight phenolic compounds including two flavonoids (eucalyptine (1) and 8-demethyleucalyptine (2)), two alcohols (blumenol A (3), n-tetratriacontanol (4)), three benzoic acid derivatives (acid gallic (5), methyl gallate (6) protocatechuic acid (7)), one sterol (b-sitosterol (8)), and along with one sesquiterpene (2,6,10-bisabolatriene (9)). The structures of the natural compounds were determined by spectroscopic evidences including 1D- and 2D-NMR and ESI-MS.

A new iridoid, 10-acetylborreriagenin (1), and five known iridoid glycosides (2–6), were isolated from the aerial parts of Hedyotis pilulifera. Their structures were elucidated by spectral analyses, including 1D- and 2D-NMR, and HR-ESI-MS, and comparisons with the NMR data reported in the literature. The isolated compounds 1–6 were tested against six bacterial species. Among them, 10-acetylborreriagenin (1) showed antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus, with an MIC value of 100 μg/mL.
