Three new sodium salts of iridoid acids, deacetylasperulosidic acid sodium salt (1), teneoside D (2), and teneoside E (3) were isolated from the leaves of Hedyotis tenelliflora Blume (Rubiaceae), together with seven known iridoids, 6α-hydroxygeniposide (4), 6β-hydroxygeniposide (5), 6- O-methyldeacetylasperulosidic acid methyl ester (6), 6- O-methylscandoside methyl ester (7), 6α-methoxygeniposidic acid (8), daphylloside (9), and mollugoside methyl ester (10). Their chemical structures were elucidated by 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopy, as well as HR-ESI-MS analysis.

A new lupane triterpenoid, 27-hydroxylup-20(29)-en-27-O-(3,4-dimethoxycinnamoyl)-28-oic acid methyl ester (1) was isolated from the seeds of Peganum harmala. The structure was determined from extensive 1D- and 2D- NMR spectroscopic data.

Abstract The naphthalene glycosidecurviflorside [1,5-dihydroxy-8-methoxynaphthalene-2-O-β-D-xylopyranoside] (3) and the flavanol curviflorin [(+)-catechin-7-O-3″,4″-dihydroxybenzoate] (4), along with two known flavonoids: (+)-catechin (1) and quercetin (2) were isolated from the shoots of Plicosepalu scurviflorus Benth. (Loranthaceae) growing in Saudi Arabia and the chemical structures were elucidated by 2D-NMR spectroscopy.

The paper presents the results on the one-pot pyridine quaternization using betulinic 28-O-methyl ester (1) and Tempo+Br3− cation followed by reduction of the resulting salt (2) to 1,2,5,6-tetrahydropyridine derivative (3). The structures of new compounds are confirmed by means of 1D and 2D-NMR spectroscopy, as well as MALDI TOF/TOF spectrometry. The derivatives 2 and 3 are active against S. aureus at the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 4 μg/mL and 16 μg/mL, correspondingly.

A new triterpenoid, 3-oxo-22α-hydroxy-olean-12-en-28-oic acid (1), oleanolic acid (2) and a known iridoid, 10-hydroxy-1-oxo-7-iriden-11-oic acid methyl ester (3) have been isolated from the dichloromethane extract of the dried seeds of Gardenia volkensii. Their structures were established by 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic and MS methods.

A new iridoid glucoside, sesinoside (1), was isolated from the seedlings of Sesamum indicum. The structure of 1 was elucidated by spectroscopic analyses and by methanolysis of 1, which produced the known compounds, phlorigidosides C (2) and (6 Z)-foliamenthic acid methyl ester (3). This is the first report of an iridoid glucoside with 3.

AbstractThe phytochemical study of the roots, leaves and twigs of Penianthus camerounensis Dekker (Menispermaceae) has led to the isolation and the characterization of 20 compounds. A ceramide, camerounamide (1), and a furoclerodanediterpenoid, camerounin (2), have not been described previously, while the compounds xylopic acid (3), syringaresinol (4), iso-propylmethylcyclohexa-1,4-diol (5), 1-(28-hydroxyoctacosanoyl)glycerol (6), scoparone (7), friedelin (8), friedelanol (9) and betulinic acid (10) are being reported for the first time from the genus Penianthus alongside 10 known compounds (11–20). Chemical structures were determined using 1D- and 2D-NMR spectroscopy, MS and chemical analysis. Their chemotaxonomic importance is discussed.

Abstract A new highly oxygenated iridoid glucoside, urphoside B (1) was isolated from the Veronica pectinata var. glandulosa together with seven known iridoid glucosides, aucubin, catalpol, veronicoside, catalposide, verproside, amphicoside and 6-O-veratroyl catalpol. The planar as well as the stereo structures of the isolated compounds were determined by means of extensive 1D- and 2D-NMR spectroscopy and confirmed by HR-Mass.
