We investigate the coherent transport properties of electrons in a side terminal of a four-terminal nano device made of quantum wires with Rashba spin-orbit (SO) coupling in the presence of magnetic filed. We numerically calculate the charge and spin conductances dependent on SO coupling strength and reduced flux. The results imply that the coherent transport in this device is determined by the interplay of Rashba SO coupling and magnetic filed. For specific values of magnetic flux and SO coupling strength, a complete blocking can take place. It also shows that there is a de-blocking phenomenon induced by the interplay of magnetic flux and SO coupling. Such a 4-terminal and multi-channel structure may provide more options of controlling methods for the coherent charge and spin transport.

AbstractThe magnetic flux density inside a Metglas sheet is much higher than that of the applied external magnetic field due to its high magnetic permeability, which is known as the magnetic flux concentration effect. Magnetic flux concentration of Metglas as a function of its sheet aspect ratio (width/length) was investigated for Metglas/Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) laminar composites. Both the simulations and experimental results suggest that the magnetic flux concentration effect is markedly enhanced when the aspect ratio of a Metglas sheet is reduced. Consequently the magnetostriction of Metglas and the magnetoelectric (ME) voltage coefficients of the laminar composites are enhanced. The ME voltage coefficient for a laminar composite with a 1 mm wide and 30 mm long Metglas sheet (25 μm thick) is 21.46 V/cm•Oe, which is much higher than those reported earlier in similar laminar composites without making use of the flux concentration effect. The results demonstrate an effective means to significantly enhance the sensitivity of the magnetostrictive/piezoelectric composites as weak magnetic field sensors.

In this work, authors have designed, constructed and tested a new kind of partially superconducting axial flux machine. This model is based on the magnetic flux concentration principle. The magnetic field creation part consists of the NbTi superconducting solenoid and two YBaCuO plates. A theoretical study is conducted of an extrapolated superconducting inductor for low-temperature superconducting and high-temperature superconducting solenoids. The optimization of the inductor is carried out in order to increase the torque and the power density as well. This improvement is done by changing the shape of the elements which form the superconducting inductor. Finally, a prototype is realized, and tested.
