Carbon membrane has attracted researchers’ attention as it is superior in terms of its gas separation performance. In this study, the composition of polymer precursor in the dope solution was investigated based on carbon membrane performance. P84 polyimide was chosen as the polymer precursor as it fulfils the requirement for carbon membrane properties. By varying the polymer precursor composition (6, 9, 12, and 15 wt.%), P84 was stirred in NMP solvent until homogenous solution was formed. Commercialised alumina disc was coated via spray coating method at 1 bar at room temperature. The disc supported polymeric membrane was carbonised at 700 °C under nitrogen (200 ml/min) with heating rate of 3 °C/min. The carbon membrane was analysed via SEM. Gas permeation tests were performed using pure O2 and N2 at 4 bar at room temperature. The selectivity of 3.7 was obtained using the disc supported carbon membrane for O2/N2. The optimum polymer composition in this study was obtained by 12 wt.% of P84.

ZnO doped with 2~6 mol% Silver (Ag) photocatalyst thin films has been deposited on glass substrate by thermal spray coating with temperature deposition of 250°C. A gel of ZnO:Ag precursor has been synthesized by sol-gel route from aqueous/alcoholic solution of zinc acetate dehydrate and silver nitrate mixture at room temperature. The morphology of ZnO:Ag films were investigated scanning electron microscopy (SEM). 3D SEM images of ZnO:Ag thin films show the rough morphology with roughness mean square (rms) of 150 to 195 nm. The grain size of ZnO:Ag films were found in the range 76,5 to 304,8 nm. The photoactivity examination of ZnO:Ag photocatalyst films show the E. Coli bacteria degraded up to 99.99% under sunlight irradiation for 4 hours.

Dense gadolinium doped ceria (GDC) electrolyte thin films were prepared on porous NiO-GDC substrates by spray coating process. Microstructure of the GDC thin films and effect of preparation process on the microstructure were examined. SEM results show that uniform and dense GDC thin films with a thickness of approximately 1 μm were successfully prepared on porous NiO-GDC anodes. Anode-supported single cell with the thin GDC electrolyte film was tested using humidified hydrogen as a fuel, and exhibited relatively high electrical performance at low operating temperature (the maximum power density of 135 mW/cm2 at 600 °C). This means that the thin GDC film may be applicable to an electrolyte for anode-supported SOFCs. The experimental results suggest that the spray coating method developed in this study may offer a useful route for preparing thin and dense electrolytes of SOFCs.
