We have employed the relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov (RHB) model with density-dependent meson-exchange interaction and separable pairing to investigate neutron dripline mechanisms for heavy Mg isotopes. In the present study, 40Mg is predicted to be dripline nuclei. The calculations are carried out by taking axial deformation into account. An investigation of shape transition is also done for even-even 32-42Mg isotopes. Our prediction for neutron dripline for 40Mg is consistent with some recent studies.

The exotic even–even isotopic chains from [Formula: see text] to [Formula: see text] are investigated by means of the relativistic Hartree–Bogoliubov (RHB) approach with the explicit Density Dependent Meson-Exchange (DD-ME2) and Density-Dependent Point-Coupling (DD-PC1) models. The classic magic number [Formula: see text] is reproduced and the new number [Formula: see text] is predicted to be a robust shell closure by analysing several calculated quantities such as: two-neutron separation energies, two-neutron shell gap, neutron pairing energy, potential energy surface and neutron single particle energies. The obtained results are compared with the predictions of finite range droplet model (FRDM) and with the available experimental data. A reasonable and satisfactory agreement between the theoretical models and experiment is established.

In this work, the ground state properties of the platinum isotopic chain, [Formula: see text]Pt are studied within the covariant density functional theory. The calculations are carried out for a large number of even–even Pt isotopes by using the density-dependent point-coupling and the density-dependent meson-exchange effective interactions. All ground state properties such as the binding energy, separation energy, two-neutron shell gap, root mean square (rms)-radii for neutrons and protons and quadrupole deformation are discussed and compared with available experimental data, and with the predictions of some nuclear models such as the Relativistic Mean Field (RMF) model with NL3 functional and the Hartree–Fock–Bogoliubov (HFB) method with SLy4 Skyrme force. The shape phase transition for Pt isotopic chain is also studied. Its corresponding total energy curves as well as the potential energy surfaces confirm the transition from prolate to oblate shapes at [Formula: see text]Pt contrary to some studies predictions and in agreement with others. Overall, a good agreement is found between the calculated and experimental results wherever available.

It is unclear how urbanization affects secondary biological production in estuaries in the southeastern USA. We estimated production of larval/juvenile Fundulus heteroclitus in salt marsh areas of North Carolina tidal creeks and tested for factors influencing production. F. heteroclitus were collected with a throw trap in salt marshes of 5 creeks subjected to a range of urbanization intensities. Multiple factor analysis (MFA) was used to reduce dimensionality of habitat and urbanization effects in the creeks and their watersheds. Production was then related to the first 2 dimensions of the MFA, month, and year. Lastly, we determined the relationship between creek-wide larval/juvenile production and abundance from spring and abundance of adults from autumn of the same year. Production in marsh (g m-2 d-1) varied between years and was negatively related to the MFA dimension that indexed salt marsh; higher rates of production were related to creeks with higher percentages of marsh. An asymptotic relationship was found between abundance of adults and creek-wide production of larvae/juveniles and an even stronger density-dependent relationship was found between abundance of adults and creek-wide larval/juvenile abundance. Results demonstrate (1) the ability of F. heteroclitus to maintain production within salt marsh in creeks with a lesser percentage of marsh as long as this habitat is not removed altogether and (2) a density-dependent link between age-0 production/abundance and subsequent adult recruitment. Given the relationship between production and marsh area, natural resource agencies should consider impacts of development on production when permitting construction in the southeastern USA.

The possibility of occurrence of the excitonic  quasimolecule formed of spatially separated electrons and holes in a nanosystem that consists  of  CuO quantum dots synthesized in a silicate glass matrix. It is shown that the major contribution to the excitonic quasimolecule binding energy is made by the energy of the exchange interaction of electrons with holes and this contribution is much more substantial than the contribution of the energy of Coulomb interaction between the electrons and holes.
