This is the first voucher-based record of Selaginella conduplicata Spring in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest and the Brazilian Northeast. This species was considered restricted to the Amazon Basin, and here we report its occurrence beyond the Amazonian limits, expanding its distribution. Illustrations of the diagnostic characters of the species, information of geographic distribution and conservation status are presented. Besides, we present description as well as taxonomic and nomenclatural comments.

This study report the first record of Allamanda blanchetii Kunth in the Atlantic Forest, Brazil. This species was collected from an upland forest in Semi-deciduous Seasonal Forest. This occurrence adds new information about the distribution of this species and expands its range to Brazil, which is important for its conservation. We provide taxonomic information, distribution maps, conservation status assessment, photograps, and an identification key for the Allamanda L. species in the Atlantic Forest.

The genus Xenohyla is currently composed of two species, X. truncata (Izecksohn, 1959) and Xenohyla eugenioi Caramaschi, 1998. Both species are usually found inside bromeliads; X. truncata inhabits the restingas of the state of Rio de Janeiro, southeastern Brazil, and X. eugenioi transitional areas between the Atlantic Forest and the Caatinga biomes in northeastern Brazil. We report the first record of X. eugenioi in the state of Sergipe, expanding the species geographic distribution by 423.4 km in a straight line in relation to its type locality, in the municipality of Maracás, south-central state of Bahia, Brazil.

Eugenia section Phyllocalyx, a mainly Brazilian Atlantic Forest group of 16 species, is revised based on a study of over 2000 plant collections. The relationships of Eugenia sect. Phyllocalyx to other sections in Eugenia are discussed. All species are described and comments about geographic distribution and morphology are provided. An identification key and notes about its conservation status are also presented. Lectotypes are chosen for six species and second-step lectotypification is proposed for two species.

The Brazilian genus Machima Brunner von Wattenwyl, 1878 includes three valid species: M. paranensis Rehn, 1950 and M. scalprum Rehn, 1950 distributed on Southern and M. phyllacantha (Burmeister, 1838) from Northeastern Brazil. Herein we analyzed eleven male specimens of Machima from Parque Nacional de Itatiaia and propose a new species. Machima itatiaia sp. nov. is characterized by its main lobe of the cercus curving abruptly on apical two-thirds and accessory lobe as long as wide. The new species is the first record of the genus from Southeastern Brazil. Finally, we also present a key to species of Machima based on males.

We present the first record of Epicadus trituberculatus (Taczanowski, 1872) from the Northeast Region of Brazil. The new record is based on six specimens observed in two areas of montane semi-deciduous tropical forest located in two municipalities: Guaramiranga and Pacatuba, Ceará state, Brazil. Of the six specimens observed we collected manually only three to preserve as voucher material. In Brazil, E. trituberculatus has a wide distribution range, which extends from the Atlantic Forest, Amazon, and Cerrado biomes and the Pampa ecoregion. With the new record there are currently six known species of Epicadus in northeastern Brazil.

Abstract The genus Dermanura currently comprises 11 species, four of which occur in Brazil. Dermanura anderseni was previously recorded only in the Amazon and Cerrado biomes. Here, we expand the known geographic distribution of D. anderseni over 1000 km eastwards for the Atlantic Forest biome. We captured an adult male specimen in mist-nets set at ground level in the Caju Private Natural Heritage Reserve, Itaporanga D’Ajuda, Sergipe State, northeastern Brazil. Owing to their similarities in external morphology, D. anderseni may be easily mistaken for Dermanura cinerea. Thus, considering that D. cinerea is one of the most common species in the Atlantic Forest of northeastern Brazil, we are alert for the possibility of misidentified specimens in zoological collections.

Sarcoglanidinae and Glanapteryginae catfishes are among the most unusual elements of the Neotropical freshwater fish fauna. Microcambeva ribeirae, M. barbata and M. draco are miniaturized Sarcoglanidinae known to occur in sandy microhabitats in drainages of the Brazilian Atlantic Forest. Due to their specific habitats, specimens of Microcambeva are rare in fish collections, and new records are considered noteworthy to warrant report. Recently, specimens of this genus were newly found in the Rio Doce basin in Minas Gerais and Espírito Santo States. Such new records expand the known geographic distribution of Microcambeva. Further records of Microcambeva for Rio Peruípe in south Bahia State are also reported. Comments on the distribution of Microcambeva species along the Atlantic Forest coastal basins and suggestions on its conservation status are also offered.

Ametrida centurio Gray, 1847 is a small fruit-eating bat endemic to the Neotropics. In Brazil, its known distribu­tion is limited to the Amazon basin. We report the first record of A. centurio in the Atlantic Forest and extend its distribu­tion in approximately 1,500 km from the previously known easternmost locality. The record was made in the Guaribas Biological Reserve, located in the state of Paraíba, north­eastern Brazil. We intended to evaluate whether this record is accidental or might correspond to an emerging pattern for northeastern Brazil’s canopy.

The first record of Hydrodynastes gigas is reported from Rio Grande do Norte, the northeasternmost state of Brazil. The new record extends this species’ known geographic distribution by 796 km southeast and 173 km north from the nearest previously known localities. The new record is from an estuary, with semi-deciduous forests, mangroves, and sand dunes, in the Atlantic Forest. This is the fifth known occurrence of H. gigas in the Northeast Region of Brazil.

Dyckia racemosa is a Bromeliaceae species known from only three collections near Serra Geral, Central Brazil. In this study, the area of occurrence of the species is reported to extend to a Cerrado area in Maranhão state, northeastern Brazil. Digital collections from Brazilian and international herbaria were consulted. The species original description is complemented herein with illustrations and information on the species phenology, ecology, and conservation status. The discovery of D. racemosa in Maranhão demonstrates the importance of floristic studies and the need for further research of this nature in that Brazilian state.
