Abrothrix jelskii is one of the lesser-known species in the genus Abrothrix, and it has only been recorded in a few localities in highland environments along the central Andean range. In Argentina, existing records are restricted to just one locality in Jujuy province. We have recently recorded this species in Salta Province, extending its known distribution 150 km northward in northwestern Argentina and 175 km further to the southeast compared to existing records from localities in southern Bolivia. Ten other rodent species were also recorded in the same area, with some of these records, such as those for Auliscomys sublimis, Akodon boliviensis, and Phyllotis sp., being noteworthy as well.

Oxymycterus wayku Jayat, D’Elía, Pardinãs, Miotti & Ortiz, 2008, a rodent species recently described, is known in only four localities within the Subtropical Mountain Forests of the Yungas eco-region in Tucumán, northwestern Argentina. Specimens were recorded in an owl pellet sample during a recent survey. This record represents the first for Oxymycterus in Catamarca Province, extending approximately 60 km south its southern distribution in the region. Sixteen other small non-volant mammal species were recorded there, turning this area into one of the most diverse for this understudied group in Argentina.

The family Tischeriidae is recorded from Madagascar for the first time. Coptotriche alavelona Lees and Stonis, sp. n., is described from high elevation tropical moist forest of Madagascar, and its proposed generic placement discussed. DNA of this species has been extracted and conserved for future phylogenetic or barcoding studies. The external features and male genitalia are figured and described. An updated checklist and a distribution map for all 13 Tischeriidae species currently recorded from the Afrotropics are provided.

We provide the first record of Anolis fuscoauratus D’Orbigny, 1837 for the state of Rio Grande do Norte and a distribution map for the species in the Atlantic Rainforest of northeastern Brazil. The record of A. fuscoauratus in the municipality of Tibau do Sul, state of Rio Grande do Norte, represents a distribution extension of 170 km northwestern from the municipality of Cabedelo, state of Paraíba. This is the northernmost record of this species in the Atlantic Rainforest.

Morphological Variations

The parasitoid wasp Clistopyga melanoptera Castillo, Sääksjärvi & Bordera, 2016 was described recently and was known only from the type locality, Cusco, Peru. Here we provide a first record of this species for Brazil, at Manaus, 1700 km from the type locality. A distribution map, images and morphological variations are provided.

Sigmodontine rodents are well represented in northwestern Argentina, but information regarding their distribution in La Rioja is scarce. We add new information for seven species from seven localities in the Famatina range. These new records were obtained using both captures and owl pellet analysis. We cite the first record of Neotomys ebriosus in La Rioja. The collection locality is unusual for this species because of its low altitude and xeric conditions. Other notable results include the second record of Abrothrix andinus and of the genus Oligoryzomys at the province.

We present the first record of the Dipsadidae snakes Xenopholis scalaris for the state of Rio de Janeiro and a general distribution map for this species. This record for the Brazilian Atlantic Forest expands the known geographical distribution of X. scalaris and reveals that its populations might not be isolated or disjunctive, but rather rare in this biome. We also provide some recommendations for future conservation of X. scalaris.

In this study we report the first record of the giant torrent frog Megaelosia apuana in the state of Minas Gerais, southeastern Brazil. The finding of this species at Reserva Particular do Patrimônio Natural (RPPN) Mata do Sossego, municipality of Simonésia, east of Minas Gerais extends its geographic distribution by 120 km from the type locality, and 45 km northwest from its westernmost known record. A geographic distribution map is presented.

In the present work we report the first record of Chiroderma trinitatum Goodwin, 1958 for the state of Rondônia, northern Brazil. A map with all known records of C. trinitatum from Brazil is also presented. The record is based on a fluid preserved specimen with skull removed. The new record, though expected, fills a distributional gap in the Amazonic region of Brazil.

Two new species of Taraxippus Moxey, 1971 are described and illustrated: T. samaraesp. nov. from Costa Rica and Panama and T. perezgelabertisp. nov. from the Dominican Republic. Both sexes and the previously unknown eggs are described. The genus is recorded from Central America for the first time. A distribution map and a discussion of the distributional pattern of Taraxippus are provided.
