ABSTRACTWe report the study of the magneto-optical properties of composite multiferroic thin films composed of CoFe2O4 nanopillars embedded in a BiFeO3 matrix. The magneto-optical Kerr rotation and Kerr ellipticity in these films have been measured and are in good agreement with magnetization measurements. The Kerr signal has been studied as a function of film composition and nanopillar diameter confirming that the magneto-optical signal is due solely to the CoFe2O4 nanopillars.

ABSTRACTWe have studied the mechanical and magneto-optical properties of postdeposition oxidized Co thin films. Oxidization process leads to the formation of double-layered structure of cobalt oxide on top of metallic cobalt. The nanoindentation measurements show decrease in hardness and Young's modulus at low annealing temperature and are related to increasing porosity of the film. The magneto-optical Kerr effect (MOKE) reveals dependence of the MOKE spectra on annealing temperature. The increased coercivity of the annealed films has been observed by MOKE and is related to the structure of the film.

ABSTRACTCoherent epitaxial Fe3O4 layers in the range of 0 to 400 Å have been grown by molecular beam epitaxy on single crystal MgO(100) substrates. The magnetic properties were studied by local magneto-optical Kerr effect experiments on a wedge shaped Fe3O4 layer, by ferromagnetic resonance and SQUID. The results show that the magnetic behavior of the Fe3O4 thin films resembles bulk Fe3O4 in the investigated thickness range.

In this paper, based on 4×4 matrix method, we present theoretical calculations of the polar magneto-optical Kerr effect for Co/Pt and MnBi multilayered films, and NixSiO2(1-x) granular films. The calculated results indicate that, (1) the simulated Kerr spectra as a function of photo-energy are in good agreement with experimental ones; (2) the maxima and the periodical and damped oscillation appear in the Kerr spectra curve with the magnetic thickness, which is important for design of the material in the future; (3) the structure of interfacial layer affect greatly the Kerr spectra, which is significant for the processing of magneto-optical material.
