Plant Growth Promoting Bacteria Rhizobacteria (PGPR) is one of the potential bacteria to enhance of Capsicum annuum through inhabitation the growth of pathogenic fungi. This study aimed to characterize PGPR in chili plants (Capsicum annuum). PGPR was isolated from the soil habitat of the red chili plant in Cilegon, Indonesia. Screening was then carried out with the dual culture method on Petri dishes and tested through in vivo method on the red chili plant. The selected bacteria were characterized morphologically, biochemically, and physiologically. The results revealed that there were 14 single isolates of bacteria from the roots of the red chili plants. The five single bacterial isolates, namely Azostobacter, Azospirillum, Pseudomonas, Serratia, and Beijerinckia have good potential as PGPR based on multiple culture screening by producing clear zones and positively effect the growth of chili plants.

Abstrak. Biological seed treatment merupakan salah satu perlakuan benih menggunakan mikroorganisme seperti rizobakteri pemacu pertumbuhan tanaman (RPPT). Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui jenis rizobakteri dan kerapatan inokulum yang dapat meningkatkan viabilitas dan vigor benih cabai kadaluarsa. Penelitian ini menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) pola faktorial dengan 2 faktor dan 3 ulangan. Faktor pertama adalah jenis rizobakteri (R) terdiri atas lima taraf yaitu R1: Necercia sp; R2:Bacillus polymixa; R3: Actinobacillus suis; R4: Azotobacter sp; R5: Pseudomonas capacia. Faktor kedua adalah kerapatan inokulum rizobakteri terdiri dari tiga taraf yaitu K1: 107 cfu/ml; K2: 108 cfu/ml; K3: 109 cfu/ml. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan benih menggunakan rizobakteri jenis Necercia sp dengan kerapatan inokulum 108 cfu/ml nyata meningkatkan vigor benih pada tolok ukur  indeks vigor yaitu 40% dan Pseudomonas capacia dengan kerapatan inokulum 109 cfu/ml juga merupakan kombinasi perlakuan terbaik dalam meningkatkan berat kering kecambah normal yaitu 69,33 mg.Treatment Of Plant Growth Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR)With Multiple Levels of Rhizobacteria Inoculum Density On Viability and Vigor Of Expired Red Chilli Seeds (Capsicum annuum L.Abstract. Biological seed treatment is one of the seed treatment using microorganisms such as plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR). This study aims to determine the type of rhizobacteria and inoculum density that can increase the viability and vigor of expired chili seeds. This research uses Completely Randomized Design (CRD) factorial pattern with 2 factors and 3 replications. The first factor is the type of rhizobacteria (R) consists of five levels, namely R1: Necercia sp; R2: Bacillus polymixa; R3: Actinobacillus suis; R4: Azotobacter sp; R5: Pseudomonas capacia. The second factor is the density of rhizobacteria inoculum consisting of three levels namely K1: 107 cfu/ml; K2: 108 cfu/ml; K3: 109 cfu/ml. The results of this study showed that the seed treatment using the Necercia sp-type rizobacteria with 108 cfu/ml inoculum density significantly increased the seed vigor on the vigor index benchmark of 40% and Pseudomonas capacia with 109cfu/ml inoculum density was also the best treatment combination in increasing dry weight normal sprout is 69,33 mg.

<p>La dinámica poblacional de la especie humana ha llevado a que la explotación de los recursos naturales, en búsqueda de suplir las necesidades alimenticias de los miles de millones de personas que habitan el planeta. Esta necesidad ha llevado a la utilización de materiales de alta eficiencia en la agricultura, variedades vegetales resistentes a plagas y enfermedades con ciclos de producción más cortos, agroquímicos que surten las necesidades nutricionales y provean protección frente factores bióticos adversos (plagas y enfermedades). Sin embargo, estas estrategias utilizadas en la agricultura moderna han generado impactos ambientales negativos que aún no comprendemos. La contaminación de aguas freáticas, eutrofización, aumento de gases de invernadero y acumulación de sustancias toxicas en la cadena trófica, son algunos de los graves problemas que se presentan por el uso indiscriminado de agroquímicos. Como alternativa a la utilización de estas sustancias, se ha propuesto el uso de bacterias rizosféricas que tienen reconocida acción sobre el crecimiento y desarrollo vegetal (PGPR, por sus siglas en ingles). Estas bacterias son capaces de estimular el desarrollo de las plantas de manera directa e indirecta y poseen una serie de mecanismos complejos que interactúan entre sí para establecer relaciones benéficas, especialmente con las raíces de las plantas objetivo. El estudio y entendimiento de las PGPR han sido temas de gran importancia en muchas investigaciones a nivel mundial, por esta razón esta revisión tiene por objetivo hacer una revisión parcial para dar a conocer los mecanismos que poseen las rizobacterias promotoras del crecimiento vegetal en el desarrollo de las plantas, así como el papel que desempeñan en el ciclaje de nutrientes.</p><p> </p><p><strong>Mechanisms of action of plant growth promoting rhizobacteria.</strong></p><p>The population dynamics of the human race has led to the exploitation of natural resources in search of a way to meet the nutritional needs of the billions of people inhabiting the planet. This need has led to the use of high-efficiency materials in agriculture, plant varieties with shorter production cycles that are also resistant to pests and diseases, and chemicals that provide protection against biotic factors (pests and disease), additionally the nutrients required to grow plants. However, the strategies used in modern agriculture have led to negative environmental impacts that we have yet to fully understand. Groundwater contamination, eutrophication, increased greenhouse gases, and the accumulation of toxic substances in the food chain are some of the serious problems that have arisen worldwide due to the indiscriminate use of agrochemicals. As an alternative to the use of these substances, the use of rhizopheric bacteria has been proposed owing to its known action as plant growth- promoting bacteria (PGPB). These bacteria are able to stimulate plant growth directly and indirectly and have several complex mechanisms that interact with each other to establish beneficial relationships, especially with the roots of target plants. The study and understanding of PGPR have been the subjects of great importance in many studies at a global level. This review, therefore, aims to better understand the mechanisms of plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria on plant development and their role in nutrient cycling.</p>

The influence of plant-growth-promoting bacteria (Azospirillum brasilense and Pantoea dispersa) on sweet pepper plants (Capsicum annuum L.) under limited N supply was studied. Inoculation did not affect leaf CO2 assimilation, Ci/Ca (the ratio of the intercellular to the ambient CO2 concentration), concentration of chlorophylls, chlorophyll fluorescence (maximum quantum efficiency of PSII) or SPAD readings. Total plant dry weight was significantly reduced in both inoculated and non-inoculated plants when the N supply was reduced from 12 (control) to 7 mM, whilst the NO3− and total-N concentrations in the leaves were not significantly affected by inoculation. Inoculation did not affect marketable fruit yield or the pigments (chlorophylls, lycopene and β-carotene) and carbohydrate (sucrose, glucose and fructose) contents in the fruits but flavonoids and anthocyanins were increased significantly by the addition of the bacteria, relative to non-inoculated plants under limited N supply. Plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria with multiple growth-promoting traits play a significant role in soil to improve soil health, crop growth and yield. Recent research studies have focused on the integration of organic amendments with plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) to enhance soil fertility and reduce the hazardous effects of chemical fertilizers. This study aims to evaluate the integrated application of biochar, compost, fruit and vegetable waste, and Bacillus subtilis (SMBL 1) to soil in sole application and in combined form. The study comprises eight treatments—four treatments without inoculation and four treatments with SMBL 1 inoculation in a completely randomized design (CRD), under factorial settings with four replications. The results indicate that the integrated treatments significantly improved okra growth and yield compared with sole applications. The integration of SMBL 1 with biochar showed significant improvements in plant height, root length, leaf chlorophyll a and b, leaf relative water content, fruit weight, diameter and length by 29, 29, 50, 53.3, 4.3, 44.7 and 40.4%, respectively, compared with control. Similarly, fruit N, P and K contents were improved by 33, 52.7 and 25.6% and Fe and Zn in shoot were 37.1 and 35.6%, respectively, compared with control. The results of this study reveal that the integration of SMBL 1 with organic amendments is an effective approach to the sustainable production of okra.

Massive application of chemical fertilizers and pesticides has been the main strategy used to cope with the rising crop demands in the last decades. The indiscriminate use of chemicals while providing a temporary solution has led to a decrease in crop productivity and an increase in the environmental impact of modern agriculture. A sustainable alternative to the use of chemicals for crop production is the use of microorganisms naturally capable of enhancing plant growth and protecting crops from pests, known as Plant-Growth-Promoting Bacteria (PGPB). The aim of the present study was to isolate and characterize PGPB from salt-pans sand samples able to ameliorate plant fitness. To survive high salinity, salt-tolerant microbes produce a broad range of compounds with heterogeneous biological activities that are potentially beneficial for plant growth. We have isolated and screened in vitro a total of 20 halophilic spore-forming bacteria for phyto-beneficial traits and compared the results with two rhizosphere Bacilli recently isolated from the rhizosphere of the same collection site and recently characterized as potential biocontrol agents. Whole-genome analysis on five selected halophilic strains confirmed the presence of numerous gene clusters with PGP and biocontrol functions and of novel secondary-metabolite biosynthetic genes potentially involved in plant growth promotion and protection. The predicted biocontrol potential was confirmed in dual culture assays against several phytopathogenic fungi and bacteria. Interestingly, the absence of predicted gene clusters with known biocontrol functions in some of the isolates was not predictive of the in vivo results, supporting the need of combining laboratory assays and genome mining in PGPB identification for future applications.

Biodiversitas 20: 3654-3661. Xanthomonas oryzae pv. oryzae (Xoo), a major limiting factor in rice production, and the use of resistant Xoo varieties have failed to control the bacterial pathogens as well as increased yield. It is due to the diversity in pathotypes, caused by environmental factors, the nature of resistant variety used, and gene mutation. The aims of this study were to select rhizobacterial strains with the potential of suppressing Xoo growth and promoting the growth of rice seedlings. This experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design (CRD) using seven rhizobacterial isolates selected through a dual culture test, with four replications. There were four isolates that potential in inhibiting the growth of Xoo, namely KJKB5.4, LMTSA5.4, Bacillus cereus AJ34, and Alcaligenes faecalis AJ14, with inhibition diameters greater than 11.50 mm. Rhizobacterial supernatant of 4 potential isolates has a zone of inhibition ranging from 12.25 to 24.00 mm. Four potential isolates were also able to solubilize phosphate, produce indole acetic acid (IAA) growth hormone, and siderophore, as well as enhance the growth of rice seedlings. Based on the nucleic acid sequencing of LMTSA5.4, KJKB5.4, and RK12 isolates were identified as Stenotrophomonas malthopilia strain LMG 958 (99.13%) accession NR 119220.1, Stenotrophomonas pavanii strain LMG 25348 (95.84%) accession NR 118008.1 and Ochrobactrum ciceri strain ca-34 (92.91%) accession NR115819.1.
