Efforts to culture spiny lobster, Panulirus homarus larvae are still being developed in Indonesia. One of the main challenges in lobster hatcheries is to find an appropriate feed and improving larval survival. Artemia has been used as the main feed and considered to have insufficient nutritional ingredient for lobster larvae. Enrichment of feed to improve its nutrient contents is expected to increase the larval survival. DHA-enriched feed is considered essential for growth and survival of crustaceans. The aim of this study was to determine the survival and development of larvae fed with DHA-enriched Artemia. The treatments consisted of newly hatched Artemia (A), enriched Artemia with phytoplankton, Isochrysis galbana strain Tahiti at a density of 1-1.5 x 106 cells/mL (B), enriched Artemia with DHA selco at a dose of 0.6 g/L (C), and Artemia incubated for 18 hours without DHA enrichment (D). Each Artemia enrichment was performed for 18 hours. Larval rearing was carried out in a 00 L tank with static water system. The achieved larval developmental stage in all treatments was stage-IIIa. Administration of enriched Artemia with DHA selco showed a better larval survival during the first six days of larval rearing. But, it did not give any significant effect. The survival was then decreased to only 1% on day-20. This was due to the presence of bacteria and protozoa which decreased water quality. Protozoa Zoothamnium sp. and filamentous bacteria were observed attaching to the body of the larvae, disrupting the movement and ability of larvae in capturing prey. Based on this research, the use of Artemia enriched with DHA selco as an alternative for lobster larvae feed, but better water quality control is still needed.

Abstract To date, lobster aquaculture relies on fresh food for feeding; however, the availability of fresh food is limited and its excessive use causes environmental degradation. Therefore, formulated diet is required to establish sustainable lobster aquaculture. Concerning this issue, this study was carried out to assess the growth and survival of spiny lobster Panulirus homarus fed fresh food and formulated diet. The study was conducted in a completely randomized design (CRD) with 3 groups of treatments and 3 replicates for each treatment. Feeding experiment was performed in a flow-through water system using 9 fibre tanks, 4000 L in volume. Each tank was stocked with 40 lobsters, with initial weight of 78.08 ± 0.22 g. Each group of lobsters was fed with fresh food (A), formulated diet (pellet) (B) and a combination of pellet and fresh food (C). The fresh food was a mixture of fish, crabs, shrimp and small mussel (3:1:1:1). Feeding experiment was done for 15 weeks. Results of the experiment showed that the highest specific growth rate of lobster was obtained from lobsters fed with the combination of pellet and fresh food (0.52 ± 0.02 %/day) and the lowest growth was resulted from lobsters fed formulated diet (0.16 ± 0.03 %/day). In contrast, the highest survival was achieved in lobsters fed formulated diet (51.67%). Whereas the lowest survival was found in lobsters fed fresh food (10%). This study indicated that good growth of lobster was resulted from feeding with formulated diet combined with fresh food, while good survival was supported by feeding with formulated diet.

Abstract. Mahmoud HHA, Sastranegara MH, Kusmintarsih ES. 2020. Short Communication: The lifecycle of Neocaridina denticulata and N. palmata in aquariums. Biodiversitas 21: 2396-2402. The study on the life cycle of Neocaridina spp. is important because it plays a major role in the economy and trade between countries. However, there is a lack of sufficient studies on this particular topic. One of the factors that influence Neocaridina spp. life production is its life cycle and the associated water parameters. The objectives of this study were to conduct, observe, and record the life cycle of Neocaridina denticulata and N. palmata and the associated with water parameters (temperature, pH, ammonia, nitrite, and oxygen) in the aquarium. The results showed that there was no difference in the life cycle stages between the two shrimp species. Both species reached the first sexual maturity stage of the life cycle at 75 days, with the maximum body length of the mature shrimp ranging from 2.30-3.00 cm. The eggs became larvae in 15 days, larvae reached the juvenile stage after 60 days, and the juvenile became mature in 15 days. The number of eggs was influenced by the body size of the female shrimps; smaller females produced fewer eggs. Optimal water quality varies by species and must be monitored to ensure growth and survival. The temperature range in this study was 25-28°C and the pH was 6.5-8.0. The ammonia level was in the range between 1.21 and1.72 mg/L, the nitrate was between 0.06 and 7.91 mg/L, and the oxygen was around 5.5-7.9 mg/L. All of the water quality parameters in this study are within the acceptable range for Neocardina cultivation.

While studying the water quality of the water source of the city of Samara the Saratov water reservoir, special attention was paid to the main indicators that influence the choice of chemical treatment: turbidity, permanganate index and color. Seasonal changes in the water quality of the water reservoir require constant adjustment of the chemical dose in order to meet the regulatory requirements to the quality of treated water. The results of the studies of changes in the water quality of the Saratov reservoir at the water abstraction points of the city of Samara for 20172019 by turbidity, permanganate index and color are presented. Due to the abnormal temperature differences and onset of autumn flood (end of December 2019 and January 2020), the water quality in the water reservoir dramatically changed in color and permanganate index. It was noted that an increase in these indicators required an increase in the dose of chemicals during the source water purification. The optimal dose of chemicals is selected with Lovibond ET-750 flocculator depending on the composition of the source water. Regular test coagulation allowed maintaining the quality of purified water in accordance with the regulatory requirements of SanPiN 2.1.4.1074-01 Drinking water. Quality control , except for color and total iron since the values of these indicators were increased within the measurement accuracy.

The surface water system of Amsterdam is very complicated. Of two characteristic types of water systems the influences on water and sediment quality are investigated. The importance of the sewer output to the total loads is different for both water systems. In a polder the load from the sewers is much more important than in the canal basin. Measures to reduce the emission from the sewers are much more effective in a polder. The effect of these measures on sediment quality is more than the effect on water quality. Some differences between a combined sewer system and a separate sewer system can be found in sediment quality.
